5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: I have owned this scanner for a long time, it still functions great, and I mainly use this for my photos scan and negatives for archival purposes. I use this to scan negatives mostly now, which works great, but have since gotten a lower end scanner for quick jobs. It works exactly as you expect it to. I have not had problems with the Windows XP/Vista/7. All the resolutions work, sometimes resolution too high (files are sometimes too enormous to work with). Great for the purpose that I need it, causal photographer.

Cons: It just takes a lot of work to manual do all the scans; however, there is no other way around it unless you hire somebody to do it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Scanner

Pros: High image quality
Good software controls

Cons: Power and data cables can easily become disconnected

Other Thoughts: Owned this unit for almost a year and it still runs like a champ.
Over 1500 scans have been done with no mechanical breakdown of the system.
Again the image quality is just fantastic.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice interface, good quality scans, reasonably quick.

Cons: No way to scan direct to Photoshop CS6 Windows 8 64 bit. Two step, save then open TIFF, but then quality is good.

Other Thoughts: Some other reviews reported unit failed after some time. Hoping for the best.

1 out of 5 eggsShort Lifespan

Pros: Easy install, good software, great scans

Cons: I bought this some time ago to scan my 35mm pictures and negatives. Just started using it a few weeks ago and it stopped working after about 350 scans. It died in mid scan and no longer powers up.

Other Thoughts: My HP ScanJet 6250 works fine after 10 years of almost daily use. I should have stuck to HP in the the first place and have bought a G4050 to finish scanning my pics.

2 out of 5 eggsGood scanner for awhile

Pros: When it was working, I was very happy with the ease of use and quality of photos.

Cons: Scanner just stopped working about a month after my warranty expired. We tried everything to fix it ourselves but was told it had to be sent to Epson for repair.

Other Thoughts: I am looking to buy a replacement printer right now and I didn't have a good experience with Epson.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value for the cost

Pros: Scans photos and documents with no problems so far. Setup was straightforward and quick. Have been using this for a little over a month and have scanned about 200 old photos and maybe 30 documents. Digital ICE is a little slow but the results are better than I expected for this price.

Cons: None so far. I'll see how things go over the next few months since I have over 2500 old family photos from the 1870s - 1940s to scan.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a Visioneer OneTouch 8920 which was still performing well but updated drivers for WIN 7 are not, and will not, be made available. This new scanner has some big shoes to fill, the Visioneer having been in use for 10 plus years and having scanned in excess of 15,000 photos and nearly 4,500 pages of documents.

1 out of 5 eggsBreaks once warranty runs out

Pros: Works amazing for 1 to 1.5 years.

Cons: Breaks after 1 to 1.5 years.
Terrible Customer Support:
- The support person had many support calls going on so he could not get to me most of the time.
- Sometimes he called me a sir, sometimes he called me a mam.
- Spent an hour on the phone doing pointless stuff. (Unplug it and plug it back in.)
- Finally, after the end of the call, he tells me that my warranty was expired and the nearest service center was 200 miles away.
- They don't ship free hammers when they break.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working after 18 months

Pros: Initially worked great, but

Cons: I have had this scanner for less than two years. Two nights ago it stopped in teh middle of a scan and would not power back on. I have searched the web for an answer on how to fix. I have tried replacing the entire power coard with a known good one... I contacted Epson who said I would need to take it to an Epson "shop" to be repaired...

4 out of 5 eggsAfter it is set up, its good...

Pros: Scans Slides, Pictures, etc. really well.

Digital ICE works really well, as well as grain removal.

Once you turn it on, you just wait 10 seconds and it is ready to go.

Software is VERY useful (almost a necessity) and easy to use.

Tech Support solved my first issue in the cons.

Cons: At first, I was having trouble getting the Epson Scan program to run. (You need this in order to scan slides) It just didn't want to work. I was about to return it when I decided to call the tech support. 5 minutes later, it was working. Turns out I had some unnecessary drivers from a Dell A940 interfering with the program. I should have realized it before I called.

Also, this scanner is not supported in Linux, but if you jump through some hoops, you can get it to work, very difficult process though. Not sure if the software runs in WINE.

Otherwise, no cons.

Other Thoughts: The main reason I bought this Scanner was to scan slides. Otherwise, I would not have need this product, although it is quite useful and does scan very well.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent quality

Pros: Very easy to get the slides in and out of the machine, great quality, Digital ICE is amazing.

Cons: Incomplete instructions - I learned by trial and error.

Other Thoughts: A fantastic product for the money. My slides never looked better. Beware - if you are copying 4 slides at a time, and using digital ICE, it will take about 15-20 minutes to copy all 4. However, compared to retouching the spots in photoshop, it is pretty fast.
