1 out of 5 eggsGo with the older LiDE's. This one was worse

Pros: Easy design

Powered by USB

lots of added things that have little use, (scanner for my film?)

Cons: - VERY SLOW AT HIGH RESOLUTIONS! SLOWER THAN MY OLD LiDE 110
- Won't accurately scan. There is a slight deformation, (square box appears skewed and not paralelle)
- CONSTANTLY gives me error "cannot communicate with scanner" half way through a scan!

Other Thoughts: Worse than the canoscan lide 110 it was suppose to replace BY FAR! Slower, noisier, more expensive, and plagued with bugs. It's possible I got a defective scanner, however the scan misalignment is something I really only find with low-end cheap scanners.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT require separate power supply

Pros: Great scanner. See "Other Thoughts".

Cons: See "Other Thoughts".

Other Thoughts: One of the images for this scanner shows the scanner, box, USB cable, and what is incorrectly labeled as a power adapter. That is NOT a power adapter, it is the attachment for scanning film negatives. This scanner is powered by the single USB cable only. I almost didn't buy this scanner because I thought it had a separate power adapter!

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent quality

Pros: Works without any effort with my mac. The available resolutions have been great for scanning family pics (high) and travel receipts (low). Relying on USB power, something I didn't care about when I bought it, turned out to be a nice feature, making work with my laptop that much easier.

Cons: After downloading drivers for windows, I still got errors. Thankfully, I can just switch over to using my mac to get work done.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speed and value

Pros: I love this thing. Scans fast, clear and crisp.

Cons: Cover is not heavy enough to press anything flat if you need to scan that sort of thing. I do from time to time, but put a book on the top.

Other Thoughts: Cover feels very delicate. I just have to handle it like a piece of equipment and be gentle. Not a con, though. Picked it up when they had a Christmas sale and it was well discounted. I would have gone with a cheaper version otherwise.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly 9600 maybe for film, 1200 for paper media

Pros: Fast, compact, easy to use, comes with film adapter

Cons: Under XP using Canon software, the maximum is 1200 dpi for anything except film, and for film it means 35 MM slides using the adapter and it refuses to do it if the adapter is not plugged in. Typing in anything higher bounces it back to 1200 or lower.

Other Thoughts: If you can't scan a document or picture or whatever over 1200 DPI, they should state that in the specifications.

4 out of 5 eggsLiDE 700F

Pros: Cheap, easy to set up, lots of features.

Cons: In my experience Canon scanners in this price range tend to wear out after about 3 years. 5 years would have garnered 5 eggs, but 3 years does not quite cut it.

5 out of 5 eggsWell worth the money

Pros: Small light, compact design. Very, very fast for what it's doing. Purchased this to replace my aged HP 3750c scanner, and am astounded at the slide quality. This scanner rocks negatives! Easy to use, twain aquire plugin for photoshop, good software, excellent color quality, no power cord.

Cons: Found that the supplied plastic adapter for the slides tends to move out of place, so you have to check it every time you re-position the slide lamp, but other than that, not much to complain about.

Other Thoughts: I've been in I.T. for years, and the computer industry for over 20 (I'm one of the older guys) I remember the days of the epson, hp, and Agfa drum scanners, I also remember the $1500 slide scanners not just 10 years ago. I can't believe the quality of this for the price, it rivals most of them. Size and speed cant be beat.

5 out of 5 eggsHuge improvements

Pros: HUGE performance increase over the LiDE 60! Scans 600 dpi in 5 seconds!

Cons: Just wish now I bought a model with page feeder to scan multiple pages.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's a good price, easy to install, great scan quality, and usb powered. Cannon always stays up to date on drivers and they have solid scanners. Bought this to replace a scanner that did not have Windows 7 support.

Cons: It's a little louder than normal.

Other Thoughts: I have had a Cannon Canoscan 4200f for almost 7 years now and it has always been great.
