4 out of 5 eggs500+ documents scanned now

Pros: I've owned this for over a year now and for the most part, I like it a lot. I've probably scanned well over 500 documents. It's really great keeping papers from accumulating on your desk.

Cons: Software a little clunky. Won't scan thick cards. Sometimes grabs 2 sheets instead of one.

Other Thoughts: After owning my Canon for well over a year and 500+ documents later I would recommend it without hesitation. It's not perfect, it has froze a few times requiring a power on/off . Sometimes the paper gets askew but for the most part it works pretty dannn good. I even scanned in a few photos and they looks much better then expected.

When using this device it's best to set it on a little box so the papers can fall below and not interfere. There is also a setting in the software where it will prompt you if you want to scan more documents before continuing onto the next step. Meaning you don't have to continuously feed the scanner and if you mess up you have to start over.

I have had mixed success loading a stack of say 10 papers and letting it feed them in. It will sometimes grab to papers and then you have to start over so I prefer to feed the device one paper at a time.

But despite it's quirkiness I am still satisfied with my purchase over a year later.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Small, fast, easy to use. Creates a clear scanned image.

Cons: Will very occasionally sense a double-feed and then it basically requires a computer restart to reset the scanner. May be a result of using with our paperless software.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little scanner

Pros: Really like my Canon P-150. It's quick and scans both sides of a document in the same pass. Makes scanning a breeze and I've emliminate most of my paper files.

Cons: If you are scanning more the 10 pages, it has a hard time pulling the pages through.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't last past the warranty period

Pros: While it works, it's handy.

Cons: We've had three of these and they all died after about one to two years. Two of the three never left the user's desk, the other was used for a travelling employee. For such an expensive scanner, you'd think it would last longer. I guess the warranty is one year for a reason - Canon expects you to buy a new one once a year!

Other Thoughts: We've switched back to traditional flatbed scanners, another Canon actually. They don't take up much room, cost less than a third as much, and don't break so easily. I'm not down on the Canon brand at all, I still continue to recommend them for inkjets. This particular model is just a stinker.

4 out of 5 eggsGood - but deskew doesn't work

Pros: This thing is compact, has the software pre-loaded on it so that you do not have to install anything, and can auto-feed up to 20 pages and scans both sides in one pass.

Cons: The deskew feature doesn't seem to work, with the scanned text coming out at a pretty noticeable angle.

Other Thoughts: Other than the deskew being absent, this is a pretty solid portable scanner for helping you make the change over to paperless.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: -small
-duplex scanning
- auto feeds quite well, without any interaction.
-launch a scan with the push of a button.
(button launched scan works whether computer the scanner is hooked to has scanner software installed on it or not

Cons: - takes two usb cables to operate (one for data, one for power)
- power cable could be replaced with a power adapter (at additional cost)

Other Thoughts: Would have liked to see it come with a sleeve of some sort, to cover scanner while not in use.

4 out of 5 eggsBest in its class

Pros: Standalone sheet-fed duplex scanner which can be used on a guest computer, without admin privileges, without installing software or drivers.
Acceptable speed, especially if you add power by connecting a USB wall wart to the (included) supplementary power cable.
Decent scan quality (ser below)

Cons: Jams or complains on thicker media, including photos (this is a DOCUMENT scanner, folks). Tends to skew smaller originals (automatic skew correction marginally effective). Perfectionists will want to clean sensors frequently.
Brightness of side 1/2 (duplex) not precisely calibrated, so alternate pages on duplex documents will be brighter/darker.

Other Thoughts: After using this for a while I understood while the reviews on so many other portable sheet-fed scanners complained about vertical lines in their scans. This is due to a fundamental design limitation of this type of device: the sensor is exposed to the air, and therefore to dust and dirt carried inside by the paper documents. After a few scans you're bound to notice this on documents having solid areas of dark, or colors. Fortunately, in contrast to the cheapies, Canon gives you access to clean the sensors by flipping open the top cover. This, IMHO, sets it head and shoulders above all the no-name and rebranded Chinese scanners that are flooding the market. If you are bothered by artifacts on your scans, you MUST choose a scanner that allows you to directly inspect and clean the sensor glass.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Fast

Pros: All the speed I need. Scan's look good. It's duplex too. You're really buying two scanners which stack on top of each other. The software from Canon's website is very effective.

Cons: It skews smaller receipts sometimes. Software corrects it very well. It scans faster than I can sort and load. The software built into the scanner is so buggy.

Other Thoughts: With the built in portable software, my C: drive filled up while processing a big job, lost the entire job cause it errored, had to redo from scratch. I closed the scanner, lost the entire job cause it errored, had to redo from scratch. Do yourself a favor and instead use updated software from Canon's website, it is flawless now.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: SHEET FEEDER! Was trying to scan all of my old stuff so I didn't have to store it anymore, and was trying to do a flatbed. After about 50 pages of that... just ugh.
The sheet feeder is amazing, and it's low profile which means you can take it anywhere you go. Also it is powered/connected by two usb cords which means no AC adapter. Love it!

Cons: Doesn't like some types of paper, in which case it will grab more than one sheet at a time, which can be a pain. Separating/bending the pieces that get stuck together solves this, otherwise it will keep grabbing those sheets no matter how many times you put it through. The paper it absolutely hated was some engineering graph paper that was on a notepad (not sure what it's called but you rip sheets off one at a time). May also be affected by humidity, but haven't really had much experience with it to make a good judgement.

Other Thoughts: I don't know much about sheet-fed scanners other than the fact that they are extremely expensive compared to flatbeds. This was the cheapest/best reviewed scanner I could find and I'm not disappointed at all. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to clean their closet of unwanted paperwork (well, it's wanted, just not in a physical form).
