Pros: Quick and accurate image scanning. Colors look good to me.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't able to scan right out of the box. Found there was a physical switch that had to be thrown in order to allow the scanner to function. I assume this must protect some moving part during shipment? I don't recall having to do this with other scanners I've owned. A slight delay in getting this up and working.

Pros: Very impressed with resolution quality and ease of use. Enjoying the Photoshop Elements 8 software included with purchase.

Cons: Can't identify any at this time.

Pros: Excellent scanner, with incredibly intuitive button options and accompanying software. Was ready to purchase 3rd party software for the scanner, but found that it was unnecessary. Scanner does exactly what I want it to, and well. Incredibly fast scans, and no problems with the quality of produced scans.

Cons: Short learning curve in getting used to using the scanner with the supplied software. Also, won't crop photographs that are spaced close together, so the images have to be spread far apart, giving a max of about 4 photos per scan. However, with the speed of the scanner, it doesn't affect productivity very much in the end.

Other Thoughts: I was concerned about getting a scanner after not having one for so long, but I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Easy to install and operate. The scanner and software do the quality I want. I have maybe 1,000+ slides from my parents dating back to the 1960s. It is great to convert them to digital. I have scanned over 350 at 2,400 DPI and they show the age but still look good. Have not used the Photo Elements to try and clean them up yet. Does well with photos too. Love that it puts them into separate files.

Cons: None to think of

Other Thoughts: Very fast delivery and at a very good price.

Pros: The scanner, itself, seems to be well designed and easy to use. They put the lock for the mechanism on the top under the lid so it is easy to access.

Cons: One very important thing to me was that during the software installation, there was NO option to change the installation place. I found out later that everything was installed on the c: or system partition or drive! This is poor design.

Any what I call well designed software for the last many years I have installed allows the destination to be changed to something other the the c: partition or system drive (other than the Windows Operating System). If your drive doesn't have a lot of room, you will have problems when the free space gets too low.

A Cannon technical Support person told me that all their software does not allow a person to change the destination of the installed software (as far as he knows).

Other Thoughts: Because my free space now is too small on the laptop, and I don't really want to install another larger hard drive, I will return the scanner. I didn't actually try using the scanner.

Pros: - Reflective (platen) scanning is very high quality and very quick at 300dpi
- Film holders work well
- Batch scanning of film

Cons: - 35mm scans come out looking a bit soft even with Unsharp Mask turned on. Fine details does not show up that well compared to a dedicated film scanner
- Image quality for film scanning actually gets worse beyond 5000dpi.
- Scanning stops occasionally with an error message saying that I'm out of memory, even though Windows Task Manager reports that I am using less than 50% of my total (8GB) memory. This might be because the Photoshop Elements that they included is a 32-bit version but I don't know :( Restarting Photoshop before every new scan usually fixes this though.
- Auto-detection of frames on negatives doesn't work very well at all. It often cuts off a part of the frame or doesn't detect them at all and requires you to go in and manually make adjustments.

Other Thoughts: For the money, this is a great scanner for digitizing your old film negatives with decent results. Overall, I am pretty happy, but the software could be a lot better.

I could not justify paying 10x more for a dedicated film scanner for slightly sharper results.

Pros: No wall wart power supply, comes with a real power cord.
Quieter scanning than the HP scanner it replaced, fast warm up times, does not take forever and a day to scan negatives at 1200dpi. Software does a decent job using default settings.
Scratch and dust filter works well as part of the batch scan process.

Cons: Adobe Elements 8 included has a bloatware feel to it compared to earlier version levels. Takes 3 to 4 minutes to load. Scanner is physically taller than the HP scanner this replaced. Mail button only has options for outlook or outlook express. scanning software uses default file names like IMG1.JPG IMG2.JPG, etc., rather than having ability to use timestamp as a file name. Software abends when trying to save more than 12 pictures at once with an "out of memory" message (on a quad core PC running XP Pro with 2GB of memory and an empty 1TB hard drive)

Other Thoughts: Scanner was delivered to my door in 24 hours with standard shipping, but was not in a standard brown shipping box. Instead it was shipped in the box that comes from the factory that tells the world in technocolor what is in the box with large photos and words. Box was not sealed in any way. Anyone could have opened it and replaced the scanner with a couple of bricks. Less of a problem out here in the boonies, but would probably be easily ripped off in a more urban area.

Pros: nice looking.

Cons: does not actually scan at 9600 optical.
The included software is horrid, plan on spending another $100+ for Sliverfast. The included software is pretty bad and tedious, requires multiple apps to be opened then scans then go to another app to save. Any hi-res scans are just fuzzy--filled with lines from either the glass or the optics.

Other Thoughts: Sadly there is not a good option this and the Epson V600 are both pretty mediocre. for 3x the price the Epson v750 might be better. Not convinced, my 5+ year old Epson 4180 still is better than the 9000f or V600.
