5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertized

Pros: Small footprint, lightweight, works as advertized.

Cons: None really (for the price)

Other Thoughts: This is for the budget-conscious (like me) and does exactly what I need it to do, which is to scan the occasional document. If you're looking for something fancier, I suggest spending a little more $$ on a more elaborate scanner.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little scanner

Pros: I've been using this for scanning a few photos but mostly for scanning all the sheet music I've accumulated over the years.

It works very well with Linux, since the SANE project supports this scanner. Naturally, the buttons won't work by default but that's fine as I use keyboard shortcuts anyway.

Very portable - I keep the box it shipped with and wrap the scanner up for protection from bouncing around.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: For lots of photos, use a feeder ;)

Remember to unlock the stupid scanner at the bottom....

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a good scanner

Pros: Auto-scan does detect between images and documents reliably in the few times I've used it.
Scans are crystal clear and sharp.
No AC power brick - powered by USB.

Cons: Has a couple of attachments near both ends of the USB cable. I do not know whether these are filters or power capacitors or whatever else they could be, but I doubt it'll work with any other USB cable. - Untested so not docking any eggs for that.

Other Thoughts: Cheapest scanner I could fine and it's pretty darn good. If you just want to scan bills and such for personal records digitized, then this is your go-to scanner.

1 out of 5 eggsCanon not so loyal.

Pros: in the overall, the scanner works like a champ. I own Lide 25, and I upgraded my MS system from Win 7 to Win 8.1 and since Canon had stopped writing software for Lide25 I am forced to buy a new scanner. I called Canon Loyalty Program and the operator was too busy doing something else rather talk to me and give me a better deal for the new unit. At this point I am very aggravated with Canon customer service approach and ignorance from tech site about the software updates. I am the owner of DSLR 60D and few high end lenses, camcorder, and scanner but seems like this is a time to change my "bad habits" and go with some concurrent brands.

Cons: Canon customer service approach and attitude toward old customers.

Other Thoughts: Canon has badly disappointed me. Don't waist your money because you will betrayed anyways at some point.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

Pros: Scans fast once it does its warm up. Lightning fast compared to most all in one machines. No need for power cord (see other thoughts on power). The buttons on the front work just fine.

Cons: You need somewhere to keep it. Not really a con, but just realize it has to go somewhere where as all in ones take up 1 spot. You can't just copy to paper, you must scan 1st and the print how ever many copies. Not really a con, but!

Other Thoughts: So I bought this cause I'm sick of losing perfectly good equipment when 1 part of a printer dies. This way, if my next printer dies, I can still scan and print elsewhere. Now to power issue, I would not use this with a USB hub unless the hub gets its own power from a wall outlet. Its fine directly plugged into PC, but afraid it would burn out a port with a hub drawing power for more than just the scanner.

1 out of 5 eggspossible 7.0 and 8.1 compatibility issues

Pros: It's an inexpensive way to get a scanner in your house for light duty scanning. I've had two, one died after four or five years, during which it got dropped once or twice but kept going.

My second unit, also a low end cheapie, was working fine. When XP was discontinued I built a new computer and put 8.1 on it. The old software could not be installed in 8.1, and the new software did not run my old LIDE 110. You can find a driver to get the older unit to run on the net, from Canon, but it didn't work. SO, I bought my 3rd LIDE scanner figuring it would have good software.

Cons: Well, the new software did not make my old LIDE 100 work, and it *also* failed to make my NEW LIDE 100 work. I kept getting a "release the lock" message even though it was unlocked. There are nearly 200,000 google hits associated with this error message for the LIDE. I got an RMA and am hoping the replacement will work, in which case it is a hardware error. But it might be a software error, and if Canon can't keep up with Win 7 and Win 8.1 that would be a significant shortcoming.

Other Thoughts: If it does not pan out will probably try tye Canoscan that goes for $30 more.

This scanner is basically not for big scanning projects. Think of it as a light duty tool that will photocopy and scan various household docs on an as-needed basis. Don't expect to do thousands of photos or scan an entire book. It's really not designed for that kind of usage. I was happy with it until I got the one that did not work.....

3 out of 5 eggsGood once set up

Pros: You get what you pay for a cheap product that works.

Cons: The software is kind of redundant and confusing. The scanner is on the loud side and the drivers have had issues installing.

4 out of 5 eggsAdequate For My Needs

Pros: Cheap, easy installation, does what it is supposed to do.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Linux doesn't recognize the scanner in my fancy all-in-one printer so I bought this. It works well with Linux Mint 16 and Simple Scan. After much experimentation, including placing a phone book on the lid, I am getting decent results from this. From other reviews, these don't seem to be known for their durability but I only paid $49 for mine. If it breaks I can buy a new one. I don't scan often but when you need it this one works.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great once configured. Lightweight lid.

Pros: Takes good scans, even for photos and artwork. Reasonable speed. Great quality for the money.

Cons: Lid doesn't want to close all the way. It's very light, and does not apply any pressure to the object being scanned, so it sometimes makes gradients if you don't do something about it. Mine is weiged down by a bible. First time I've found one of those useful.

Other Thoughts: If using Linux, you'll have to play with the brightness and contrast in something other than Simple Scan (SS won't change those settings). Scans will come out muddy and dark. Use xsane or something more powerful like that to compensate for this. Just save your settings for that device and you're done. I guess it's not really that different in work required than dodging Windows junk software in the install. Pick your poison.
