Penguin 7/15/2008 1:26:02 PM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 2/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 1/5Worst Thing I Ever Purchased Pros: Small and doesn't require a power supply Cons: It is a sheet-fed scanner that cannot scan sheets Other Thoughts: I bought this to move from a Visioneer Strobe sheet-fed scanner on my Mac to use the New PD I purchased. The older Strobe worked great on my Mac. This new Road Warrior is totally worthless. The rollers grip the paper so weakly that the invoices, stock confirmations, and anything that comes folded in an envelope WILL NOT SCAN. The simple creases in the paper from being folder cause the scanner to twist the paper at an angle when it reaches the rollers. Good quality on the color and actual scanning. Cons: Pathetic paper size detection/cropping. I was replacing a (still functioning) PaperPort Strobe because my new computer didn't have a parallel port and this newer product is very disappointing in comparison. The Strobe always detected and cropped any size scan (from receipt, business card to legal paper). The Roadwarrior can't even get the size right when I manually set it to legal (it crops off the bottom inch or two.) I have used both scanners with Paperport and get the same results as with other scanning. Must be the drivers, because some TWAIN requests from Java based online programs are actually well cropped. Also skewing is worse than with the older scanner. Other Thoughts: I would rather have a parallel port scanner that works than this USB version that doesn't. If only Visioneer cared enough about their product to re-write the drivers to work as well as the ones written over a decade ago, I would happily give this scanner a "5". Pros: portable, powered by USB, bundled with great software, scans quickly, even photos look great. with current rebate I got it for $xxx shipped. Cons: none so far. It is everything I expect a portable scanner to be. Other Thoughts: others have written that they can't get this to work with Vista, but i haven't had a single problem. Auto-feed feature is neat... Cons: Only BETA drivers are available for Windows Vista, and they are not very good. After install, all it would give me was blackness when scanning. According to Visioneer, this is from a corrupted calibration file. Unfortunately, the BETA software crashes when you try to recalibrate or clean. Visioneer's solution to this is to install a certified, non-BETA driver... great. Other Thoughts: This may well be a great product under 2000/XP. Unfortunately, lack of (stable) Vista support makes it worthless to anyone purchasing one of the newer, faster, comprably small notebooks with Vista-only features. 7 out of 8 people found this review helpful. Cons: Paper port really stinks. It has prolems reading network drives if they have been remapped. File hierarchy is confusing. Way too complicated and confusing. Other Thoughts: Recommend not loading paper port but just loading the 'One Touch' software that actually runs the scanner. This coupled with Omni Page Pro give full scanning and OCR functionality.
