4 out of 5 eggsNice Lo-cost Scanner

Pros: 1. Works good
2. Lo-cost
3. Easy to use, one touch copy button

Cons: Software install a little vague and led to some confusion.
Not the greatest quality but as good or better than my old copy machine was producing.

Other Thoughts: Ended up I only really needed to install the drivers and the one touch application.
Very easy for people in a small office to operate. Replaced a very old copy machine, one less machine to keep going. The scanner just sits on top of a computer case, less desk space is needed.

4 out of 5 eggsIts a scanner it works for me

Pros: Cheap small light.
Web site now has Win-7 Drivers up on there web site.
Scan quality seems good enough for home use

Cons: Software a little junky, seems built a tad cheap.
But then again my Cannon seemed well built and died in less than a year.

If used with a a/c unplugged lap top, unit has no wall wart for power, only the USB power.
NO IT IS NOT USB 2.0 ITS 1.1 so its slow

Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for 20$ & free shipping. I have XP still I threw out the install CD and went to the web site for the latest software well only the (driver and one touch button thing, not the ocr and all that other goofy jazz)
It works good with built in microsoft scanner camera wizard (you only need the twain / wia driver) This is great if you don't need the one push button thing, or need to the scan to .pdf format.
Or if you want to load on host machine / tempory use. I will test on my Win-7 machine . READ THE RELEASE NOTES ON THE SITE IF YOU HAVE VISTA.. DAH

1 out of 5 eggsVisioneer has zero support for Linux

Pros: See other reviews

Cons: Visioneer has zero support for Linux, SANE says unsupported. Reboot into Windows to scan a document? I don't think so.

Other Thoughts: Visioneer does not hide the fact that they don't provide drivers or support for Linux, but what century are they in?

5 out of 5 eggsGood, highly portable scanner

Pros: Lightweight, USB powered, 1200 dpi scanner that is IDEAL to pair with a netbook for archiving existing photos and/or documents when in the field, and inexpensive enough that you won't worry about taking it with you anywhere you go.

Very simple to use tray-controls make it quick and easy to teach anyone how to use this scanner. In my situation this is a huge pro, because I am definitely not the one using it the most, and I am not the best (or most patient) teacher.

Cons: On a little Acer Aspire One it EATS the battery. On the Asus 901, it's nowhere near as bad, but it's still a good idea to plan ahead to have access to an additional power source for a laptop or netbook.

Other Thoughts: Not sure how well I'd like this one if I intended to use it at the office or at home, but in the field it is an absolute wonder. In that environment, I VERY highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 64-bit Compatible?

Pros: Cheap, compact, Paperport 11 seems to be pretty good.

Cons: location of USB port - front right-hand side. My old Canon had it on the back. Fortunately the supplied USB cable is long enough to reach my computer. A little slow, but you get what you pay for. I mainly got it to fax since my Canon scanner was not supported under Win 7.

Other Thoughts: It is listed on the MS Windows 7 compatibility site as being Win 7 64-bit compatible. A prior review here says it works fine with Win 7 Pro 64-bit, but there are no Win 7 drivers on the Visioneer site and Win 7 has no built-in driver for it. I downloaded the Vista 64-bit driver package from the Visioneer site and it appears to work OK.

3 out of 5 eggsBasic scanning

Pros: Cheap
Compact
USB powered

I have several medical issues and I needed to organize lots of medical documentation and receipts. This scanner allows me to put all this info on my laptop and I use the bundled PaperPort software to organize it.

Cons: I was familiar with the Visioneer name because I had the original OneTouch scanner. This was in the days of Windows 98se. Their bundled software, PaperPort made by ScanSoft, was amazing. Then Nuance bought Scansoft and the support and quality of the software has never been the same.

Other Thoughts: I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit. The first thing I did was to download the updated Vista 64bit drivers from the Nuance website. This scanners does the basics. Don't expect a lot for $42.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Windows 7 Drivers

Pros: Small, Cheap.

Cons: Unable to use this, now that I have upgraded computer to Windows 7. Called and called customer support, it's always, "Check back next week, our engineers are working on it." I sincerely doubt this. How can they not have Windows 7 drivers? Even their web site shows only Windows Vista. Right now all scanning ends in errors. Visioneer - your name is mud. Never again.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap and it Scans, but...

Pros: Works with Windows 7, 64 bit. Small and USB powered. Sleek and nice looking. I bought it because of the low sale price.

Cons: I can only get it to scan through the bundled software - Arcsoft and Paperport. It does not work with the Microsoft Windows and Office 2007/2010 built-in scanning tools which I prefer. They return a message that the scanner has a hardware problem. The USB port is on the right side front of the scanner - who ever designed that was an idiot. Color scan defaults are grainy, and it is slow on high-resolution color scans

Other Thoughts: I already have a sheet scanner MFP for scanning documents. I bought this because I needed a flatbed to scan flat things to post on E6ay and it was the lowest priced scanner I could find. I have an old, mint Umax that was really fast, but no 64 bit drivers are available so I needed somethng current. I'm disappointed that a "new" scanner still has incompatibilities with Microsoft Office 2007.
