5 out of 5 eggsPortable bus-powered Mac document scanner

Pros: Inexpensive.
Portable and bus-powered
Mac compatible
Great for scanning documents on the go or in the library.

Cons: No ultrasonic double-feed detection.
Requires 2 USB ports for bus-powered operation (thus using it with a MacBook Air will require lugging the AC adapter.
Limited capacity in the hopper
Not as fast as the regular desktop ScanSnap models.
The software bundle does not include ABBYY OCR package unlike the S500M and S1500M

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these for my wife to scan her paperwork when she goes back to England on vacation, and one for my brother-in-law. These are proper document scanners from a company with experience with very high-end production scanners, not a toy like Neat Receipts or PaperPort. Be aware of the limitations in terms of speed, capacity and the fact OCR is not included in the software bundle, which is quite annoying as you have to buy ABBYY or ReadIRIS separately and no longer have a one-touch integrated solution. Fujitsu should sell a S300M premium bundle like they do for the Windows version.

1 out of 5 eggsThis is Mac Apple Only Scanner

Pros: Great product for the apple pc owners.

Cons: Only MAC drivers!!!!

Other Thoughts: newegg purposely omitted info regarding Win/Linux/ compatibility, luckily I have a mac, and I can use the scanner, but be careful! The diference is in S300 and S300M(mac), and you know that only after you receive the product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Every Penney

Pros: Very fast, while not twain, can easily set it to scan into programs. Very fast, but that comes partly from using a lower res for scanning. This is great if you only want to make copy quality scans. Leaving the duplex scanning on all the time is great, will automatically del blank pages.
Bought this to get ride of a file cabinet in my home, it is going to fast now I can't figure out how to desperado the paper fast enough.

Cons: Mac only. I wish Fujitsu would just ship divers for both window and mac, or make it so you can order the other dirver software for a small fee.
Also a software limit that only lets it scan 14in or so long. Wish it would scan longer for thos times i get the 2 mile receipt. Right now I have to cut them down to less than 14 in.

Other Thoughts: Have yet to travel with it, but its size to what I am use to looks like it would not be a big deal, enless you are somone what is using one of the supper small laptops.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Nimble little guy, fast and easy to use with my Mac Book Pro. I'm going paperless and this was my best option. Reducing 7 - 4 drawer file cabinets of project files to PDFs. Don't use all functionally available but have not doubt it would work just as well.

Cons: When they say to install the software first BEFORE plugging in the scanner - be sure you do. A bit on the high side price wise.

5 out of 5 eggsMy best purchase in years

Pros: Could not be easier. Whether you are digitizing old records or new, scanning to efax or email, this little machine is fast, easy and kind of cute too. This has become an essential device at work and at home.

Cons: Expensive. I don't regret the purchase but I would have bought one for everyone in the office if the price came down $100.

4 out of 5 eggsIt just works

Pros: Installation is painless - double click on scansnap installer, then connect the 300m with USB cables that come in the box.

Operation - it just works - press scan, click how you want the file handled (to folder, e-mail, or iphoto), name it and click ok. No fussing. Speedy, too.

Design - Looks good, feels solid, and it takes up very little desktop space.

Price - $250 aint bad compared to the rest of the batch feed scanners out there.

Cons: -No Optical Character Recognition Software included. Not a problem for those that have Adobe Pro 8 already.
-no twain drivers

Other Thoughts: So far, I am really glad that I purchased the 300m. It works great with my 24" iMac with OS 10.5.2 I would have given it a 5, but I've had it less than a week, so I just can't be sure if it really deserves 5 at this time.
