4 out of 5 eggsBack for another

Pros: Feeds well with minimal jamming. Reasonably fast. Solid build. Small footprint. Good value.

Cons: No TWAIN. This is a big deal depending on the requirements of the applications into which you will be scanning documents. It can be a deal breaker but wasn't for me. Know your apps. You have been warned.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my office which is going paperless. After good success with the first, I'm back for another. One of my part-time employees (a moonlighting mortgage broker who scans documents incessantly) says she prefers it to the $1000 model at her brokerage office for reliability, ease of use and deskspace occupied. I'm not sure there is anyone who deals with more documents than a mortgage broker, except maybe a title company employee. I'd take her word for it. This is a good machine.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A fast, small, and high quality duplex scanner that can be made to work under Linux (Ubuntu). Handles multiple sheets very well. In this price-range, it's a great scanner.

Cons: Took quite a bit of digging online to get it to work properly under Linux; It would have been far better if it was natively supported.

Scanners under Linux seem to often have permission problems; scanning must be done as the root user. I'm sure this can be fixed, but it's not enough of a hassle to warrant a workaround right now.

Unless you constantly adjust the edge guides for every single paper size, non-standard papers often feed at an angle and scan crooked. Not an issue if you just want to record them, but may cause problems with OCR.

Needs firmware loaded via USB at each power-up, so you'll need to extract it from the CD (or find it online) during installation. It would be far easier (and more Linux compatible) if the firmware was held in device memory.

5 out of 5 eggsbest thing ever

Pros: easy to setup, easy to use, FAST FAST FAST, easy to change settings between duplex/single, easy to set up to add more pages to scan if have more sheets than feeder can hold, automatically eliminates blank pages, easy to resume if a page jams(not happening much) No problems w/ various sizes,... I LOVE THIS THING!

Cons: I haven't spent time on it, but the auto text search conversion seems to be spitting out gobbledygook keywords

Other Thoughts: If you are on the fence,... GET IT! Best thing EVER!!!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Scanner

Pros: Very solid scanner & solid organized software, duplex, great OCR, many adjustable options to get your desired scan quality or file size.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: I have used a few larger Fujitsu scanners in the past at work and they worked wonders but this was for personal use at home to help me go paperless. The S1300 seems to work just like it's bigger brothers - excellent no matter what is thrown at it. Small or large, crisp or slightly mangled, colored or black and white - it doesn't matter; the scans always scan on the first try and look good. If you aren't really savvy with changing the settings then the automatic settings will be fine but you can really tweak the settings in many ways to get the right combination of quality to size that you are looking for. Well worth the price - especially when try a model from the "other guys" and see just how bad it really is.

I like to keep my things organized manually so I didn't use the filing software - and I also already had Acrobat Professional.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not do what's promised

Pros: The speed of the scan, has a small footprint

Cons: Will not allow you to add to a folder

Other Thoughts: This unit was VERY expensive.I purchased it to keep all my expenses togeather , especially my medical recipts for income taxes. The unit will not allow you to add new invoices/recipts to an existung folder. It asks if you want to overide your exisrting folder, not add to it. I called Fujitsu Tech support and was told the unit can not do this. What good is it?I promptly returned the unit to Newegg, who provided EXCFELLENT customer service. They mean what they say-unlike Fujitsu

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Scanner

Pros: Excellent Scanner. Fast, accurate and very fun to use. I got by without buying the File Cabinet software, already own Nuance Paperport software.

I use most to scan receipts. Works like a champ and is quick!

Cons: As others mentioned older or faded receipts don't scan well. I recommend if you have a lot of those, try scanning first. If doesn't work, set aside and scan with flatbed scanner. Not really a con though. I would calculate I was able to scan about 98% of all documents with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsDuplex scans both sides at once!

Pros: There have been plenty of rave reviews on this little scanner so I won't go into too much depth. I just want to highlight one amazing feature that I did not understand.

This thing is fast! Just a second or two per page. It only slows down for really hi res color photo scanning, and even that is fast. Here is the real kicker - it scans both sides of a page in this one very fast pass! I did not understand this at first and was amazed when I did realize it.

Cons: None I can see.

Other Thoughts: Although I did some test scans of a few 4x6 color photos, I have not fooled with it enough to make any firm statements. The scans looked very good. You can set both compression and resolution to decent levels. I think there were five resolution levels. Up to the third level there did not seem to be significant slowdown. Above that scanning was noticably slower, but still faster than my flatbed. I could not see any difference between the images at the third level and higher res, but again, I have not had a chance to really play with it. I think it may be quite adequate for mass-scanning all those shoe boxes full of prints.

4 out of 5 eggsVery useful

Pros: my usage is mainly household, for almost every piece of mail that I want to keep for records.

works very well with few paper jams; duplex scanning a big advantage; software suite is actually quite good

Cons: for long sheets, or sheets with folds, it does have trouble keeping the paper straight -- the feeder guides could use a redesign

on occasion, it's not recognized when cover is opened -- usually replugging USB fixes it

for single-sided sheets, it sometimes inserts a blank page (as if it's a 2-sided doc)

Other Thoughts: the software for organizing the scans is very good -- just gives a cabinet interface to the filesystem. the program to manipulate PDFs also very useful -- e.g., to rearrange, combine, scans, etc. esp when docs have to be scanned in parts.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Scanner

Pros: I use this scanner for quick scanning of documents to store away on my computer. It's very fast (takes less than 5 seconds) and easy to use (one push of a button).

My previous scanner was a flatbed that was quite the opposite, so it was a very worthwhile upgrade for me.

Cons: None so far in 10 months.
