5 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal

Pros: Ive used this for the past 3-4 years and it is amazing compared to anything else on the market. Any medical office that I've seen uses these on a daily basis - they take a pounding and have proven themselves. I routinely scan in all of my textbooks for medical school for pdf versions - 550p book zips in without a sweat in 20minutes.
-Fast
-Reliable handling and scans
-Flexible paper size input
-Long live
-Duplex scanning
-Much faster than you when scanning in 200dpi

Cons: -Jams on thin textbook paper
-Requires babysitting when scanning jobs
-Paper chute too small (Ideal if it would hold 300pages)
-Not great for scanning in high-res photos, but works if you're not picky

Other Thoughts: I must have scanned at least 30 books (200-800+p), tax returns for 20 years, etc. When moving, opened up vertical file cabinet any scanned everything right into the trash. Sooooooo nice to move from 8 vertical files to just 2.

4 out of 5 eggsOne closet full of photos later...

Pros: We bought this for one task really, we just wanted to scan a closet full of photos to a hard drive. We went through about 3,000 photos so far and never had an issue. The feeder works great and never jammed once. Very easy to use software. Good jpeg quality after you fine tune the settings.

Cons: price? it was expensive but you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsSo we bought another

Pros: It seems to do what it needs to do.

Cons: Installation is a pain in the neck.

Run the software. And it demands that Microsoft Scanner Utility be uninstalled.

Uninstall.

Software runs and does stuff.

Reboot. Scanner cannot be found.

You have to manually install the Microsoft Scanner Utility. Which seems as stupid as can be.

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse

Pros: Fast and just keeps working

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: We have purchased 15 or so of these for use in a medical office. We have used Panasonic's as well in the past. These scanners just keep working day in and day out, the Panasonic's are fine, but seem to require more maintenance than these. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid scanner.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing rocks

Pros: It is very fast, hardly ever jams, and detects multi-feeds. The software is versatile and powerful, if a bit unintuitive.

Cons: Looks cheap, but that's about it. The software has a bit of a learning curve and could be designed a bit better, but that's not major.

Other Thoughts: I am using it to archive many thousands of pages. It scans the pages faster than I can remove the staples, so I am the bottleneck. There is no reason for me to have a scanner that goes any faster than this, for my purposes. I don't have to worry about jams or multifeeds. The OCR is very good, but can take a while on larger, more complex jobs. This is an excellent scanner for archiving files in an office.

3 out of 5 eggsGet the Original

Pros: Based on the 6130 design, which we have two of in the office. It's just an "updated" version of the older one.

Cons: It's not nearly as reliable and jams more frequently than the original, they added some little rollers to the feeder tray which are nothing but useless little speedbumps, This scanner also jams more frequently than the original 6130 since it seems to draw the paper in less efficiently than the original.

Other Thoughts: It's not horrible, but the original version is far superior, so if you can find the 6130 get that one. Otherwise you can settle for the updated version that has more bells and whistles, and therefore more problems.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast. Good quality scans (best quality is with some brightness and contrast tweaking.) Extensive software control with an incredible array of options.

Cons: Brightness and contrast settings in TWAIN driver do not carry over to the ScanSnap software. The standard included software might be too complex for a home user or someone that just wants to click and scan.
