5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: This unit is a workhorse, we have 20+ of these across 5 office locations. They are very reliable and rugged. This model is the latest in a long line of Fujitsu scanners and is the fastest in the Scansnap model line. This unit is also wireless and works great this way with smartphones, tablets, & laptops.

Cons: These units are not TWAIN compliant. They scan straight to a folder or application.

Other Thoughts: Definitely would recommend this product.

Pros: fast

Cons: This model has NO Twain drivers! You cannot use this via redirected RDP. What a waste!

5 out of 5 eggsLove Love LOVE this scanner!

Pros: Scans just about any type paper, from small business cards to long narrow receipts, to legal size paper. Rarely jams (only if loaded crooked), and the software is versatile and easy to use right out of the box. Another major plus, when not in use it folds up nicely which keeps dust from gathering in the unit (unlike the Neat Desk/Cloud scanners, which can't be closed).

Cons: Have had some issues scanning very lengthy receipts (which are more common these days because of unncessary advertising). The software wants me to scan in multiple pieces and stitch it together. So far it has always worked on the second attempt.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought the Neat Cloud scanner, and wanted so badly for it to be good, but it wasn't. The scanner worked well, but the software was horrendous. Stuff would appear to scan, but vanish into nowhere. This software is very straight forward, and easy to figure out. Some of the more complex settings may require you to read up a bit, but the everyday stuff is a breeze. I'm very impressed at how well it works.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT support Twain /ISIS

Pros: Excellent scanner, very fast.

Cons: Does not Support Twain or ISIS.... these are the most commonly required scanning protocols for importing directly into your app.

Other Thoughts: If you have to have Twain like we do, you must do the FI series..... but for a scanner this expensive it should already be supported.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what is supposed to and lasts for ever

Pros: The bundled software allows you to do many things and do them well. Adobe Acrobat Standard - nice. Dual sided scanning with blank page removal. Wireless.
Scanner quality is top notch. I have 40 of these and the previous model on everyone's desk and I have had little to do to maintain them in 5 years. Even though you can scan into only a few formats, the bundled software allows you to do a myriad of conversions to other formats. Just know going in that this is not TWAIN compliant

Cons: Not really a con, but just know that this does not have TWAIN drivers. It scans directly to various programs in .pdf or .jpg format. Which is really all you need in most situations.

Other Thoughts: if you have a particular program that requires TWAIN drivers, look at Fujitsu's other offerings. TWAIN is like printer drivers - the bane of tech support and never solid. This comes with a great software bundle that allows you to do so much. The last reviewer sure whined a lot huh? Why? Because he didn't do his homework. I've been a big fan of Fujitsu scanners for a good reason. Out of some 80 scanners, I've only had two die on me and they were repaired to good as new.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Driver Support

Pros: Decent speed Scanner
Decent Image Quality

Cons: No Driver support TWAIN / WIA / ISIS / KOFAX
The Manufacture deliberatly did not create drivers for this document scanner to make it "easier for users" so if you have any software that you need to be able to scan to well TOUGH.

PDF or JPG support ONLY
would you like to use a multi-page image format such as TIFF TOO BAD this is not compatible.

Other Thoughts: If all you are doing is scanning to a PDF or JPG file on your drive this will work.
If you would like to use any other format TOUGH
If you would like to use any Document management software TOUGH
If you would like to use the INCLUDED Adobe software to scan TOUGH

If you want a scanner that will lock you into a propriety software that has few features this is the scanner for you

1 out of 5 eggsvery complicated software

Pros: It has lots of features but most of them are not easy to use or useless. YOu can't connect more than one PC wirelessly. Software is not friendly. EPSON is cheaper and easy to use hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Cons: beautiful and slightly faster than EPSON. Customer service willing to help but they have also difficulties to resolve the issues. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

5 out of 5 eggsTops

Pros: Scanning speed is great but more importantly it feeds the pages into the scanner efficiently and doesn't jam all of the time.

Cons: None Yet!

Other Thoughts: I have had two Canon scanners and even the one I "thought" was good doesn't compare to the Fujitsu. My first scanning job with the Fujitsu took only about 1 hour for 2 yrs of financial statements. I had spent two days with the Canon CR-130 scanner and didn't get half way through with all of the misfeeds and "no document present" errors before I finally gave up on it.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't beat it for the price

Pros: 7:59 AM

SUPER FAST double sided multi sheet scanning!
High quality searchable PDF and JPG scans fairly easy to obtain
Includes $400 worth of Bundle Adobe Acrobat and ABBYY software, so hardware is essentially free.

Cons: No TWAIN Support - need to use the bundled Fujitsu software which has limitations. Fujitsu says this is to make scanning easier for non-tech savvy users but their software is still very complicated with many levers to pull.
Has problems scanning pages that aren't perfectly flat or have ragged edges
Can't scan to lossless image (TIFF or PNG)
OCR with ABBYY is painfully slow and not that accurate

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to have a better way to digitally archive hundred of personal finance documents than a flatbed. I also wanted to preserve a group of old paperbacks, magazines, and comic books which were falling apart and coming unbound. I am about 2000 pages in and generally happy. I had no problem scanning 25 (or even 30) pages at once provided they all had clean edges. I did tests on multiple media and settled on using the "Best" quality setting 300 dpi color/gray // 600dpi B+W) in order to not notice loss of detail.

The two major pitfalls I found-

The Auto-Feed does not like creases and wrinkles. A common scenario is I had a 10 page letter from a financial institution, with the typical letter fold creases. No matter how hard I tired to flatten the creases, trying to scan this in bulk would make the rollers pull twist and mangle certain pages, There is a sweet spot of how thick each sheet can be. Really thin paper like your typical register receipt or newsprint can easily get creased by the rollers. Thicker sheets cause jams. Nothing worse than an archiving tool that destroys what it's meant to preserve!

OCR is slow and not that accurate. Its not too bad if you choose searchable PDF format - maybe 5-10 minutes for a 300 page book, however I could not get these to convert to EPUB in Calibre. I also tried scan to Word .DOC using ABBYY to convert to EPUB afterwords. This OCR was orders of magnitude slower, like 30-45 minutes for a 30 page book, and with the highlight errors option on, I saw 30-50 character errors per page even on clean white pages with crisp large normal font text. This is on a business class laptop 2nd gen Intel core CPU. I am by no means an expert at OCR and digital books but I was surprised at this since ABBYY is the tool of choice among the ebook scanning devotees.

Despite these flaws I'm still giving it 4 stars because as long as you know the limits going in, for most use cases, and with some care, you can get outstanding results which are well worth the costs when you consider the bundled software.
