3 out of 5 eggsUsed at work, persnickety machine

Pros: But when it is working, it's AMAZING. Photo scans are very accurate and fast.

Cons: You have to clean the machine entirely too frequently. Dust shows up as green streaks through photos and requires a sticky cleaning sheet and dust free, lint free cloth cleaning wipes...then the wheels become disgusting and need to be cleaned with yet another special cleaning wipe. All of the cleaning supplies are expensive. Sometimes it scans eyes in photos as greyed out orbs..and have to get another refurb.

Other Thoughts: But it is fast and easy to use.

3 out of 5 eggssorta good

Pros: inexpensive, fast, good quality scans

Cons: overly sensitive, flimsy, jams with scan stiff plastic cards.

Other Thoughts: It does what it says, scans quickly in duplex and can reject blank pages. I haven't been able to tune it to stop the bleed through (front being scanned on the back). Doesn't work with Linux. Jams with licenses and credit cards as the angle in the document path is too acute. Output tray broke the first day.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS SCANNER

Pros: It worked very well under Windows XP.

Cons: But the driver constantly hangs under Windows 7. When it hangs, there is no way to gracefully kill it. You have to hold the power button down on your machine since the process won't even be killed by Windows logging off.

Other Thoughts: I tried to scan a simple 6 page document tonight and it hung 3 times in a row. 15 minutes later and I still didn't have my scanned image. If you are like me and decided on the Kodak over the Fujitsu partially because of the included software, don't bother and just buy the Fujitsu.

Manufacturer Response:

Please make sure you have the latest version of the driver installed (version 1.11). This version has been fully tested with Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit). If you need the latest drivers, go to

If the scanner continues to hang, please call Kodak Service to have the problem diagnosed. We will make sure that your scanner is working properly!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to setup with included driver software. Fast Scans of Legal sized documents. Had 1 paper jam in 190 documents scanned.most of them 5 pages.

Cons: Paper Port Software included is out dated.there have been 3 upgrades since. The Drivers don't play well with Windows 7 64 Bit.The paperport program freezes often Need to reboot or go into The Task manager to end task every so often. Remember Ctrl+Alt+Del=Task Manager..Is your Friend

Other Thoughts: Thanks New Egg Got this 7 Days ago for $380.00.How about a rebate...

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Scanner

Pros: The Scanner is small and light, definitely easy to keep on the desktop. The Trays foldup nicely as well to make it even more compact. The onetouch software is highly customizable for the presets. I have used Xerox OneTouch which wasn't as easy. Not sure if maybe Kodak tweaked it or maybe it is a slightly newer version. Either way i loved the Kodak ease of use. It truly is very easy to use, and super fast.

Cons: Wish it would have come with a 'newer' release of Paperport. Comes with version 11 yet they are actually up to v14 now i believe. It would be nice for the price of the scanner if there was some way to upgrade to the latest paperport version. Mostly we scan directly to adobe so not an issue, just noting it.

4 out of 5 eggsSmooth operation

Pros: Smooth scanning, easy to install, works for duplex scanning, lots of scanning options.

Cons: Can only put approx 20 documents in the feeder at one time. Would not be a problem for personal use, but in a business setting, it's a little more time-consuming.

Other Thoughts: Very good document scanner at a good price.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent hardware, but old software. Very hard to justify the price.

Pros: Solid hardware, easy to use, quite a few features and highly configurable software, feeds documents well.

Cons: The first unit I received had a bad sensor--color documents had vertical yellow lines. NewEgg replaced it and although the new one was better, it is definitely not usable for scanning photos--there are always vertical white lines on the image.

Drivers and software have not been updated for Windows 7. Software is almost unusable on x64 Windows.

The software has been updated a few times, but when installing on a new computer, you have to install from CD first, and then install the updates.

The scanner and software worked fine with XP, but on Win 7 the scan button on the scanner no longer works (very annoying), and on Win 7 x64 the software barely works at all.

On Win 7 x64, I have to kill the Kodak Scan process and restart the system tray helper several times before it will work.

I've tried all of the compatibility options in Win 7, but I'm ready to scrap the scanner and buy a different brand that has current software.

Other Thoughts: I bought this scanner on sale from NewEgg in January 2009 and have used it alot. Worked great with XP, but not recommended for Windows 7 or x64 Windows. Great hardware, but very disappointing that the software has not been updated.
