5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Scanner

Pros: Easy setup, automatically detected by Linux when plugged into a USB port, long USB cable included, scans multiple bar codes. Laser diode. Good price at under $100. Good scan rate.

Cons: No trigger. Instead, it has placed an activation button on top of the scanner.

Other Thoughts: The scanner comes configured with the laser always-on, I can't find a way to keep the laser off until pressing the scan button. It's a minor annoyance, and certainly not problematic enough to keep me from recommending the scanner. The scan rate is good. In practice, I've been able to scan about four barcodes per seconds.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy Customer

Pros: Looks like the company has been reading these reviews as my copy shipped with a 10' cord. Very nice. Unit is smaller than I expected but seems well made. Branded Honeywell.

Cons: stays on all the time. I recall reading that there was a setting to change this behavior.

Pros: Good scanner, works every time. Easy to use. Works on an Apple Mac.

Cons: I also found the beep to be pretty loud. I was Leary of the top button, but it seems to be OK.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Linux

Pros: Good basic barcode scanner - we're using it for entering in MAC addresses for network deployments and VoIP rollouts, and testing some barcode printing software. Just plug it into a USB port and it acts just like another keyboard.

Cons: Button is on top of the scanner - slightly awkward. Beep is kind of loud for an office environment.

Other Thoughts: Good low-volume barcode scanner. I wouldn't use it for large-scale deployments, but for testing, development, or smaller jobs, it does fine.

4 out of 5 eggsI give it 4 stars

Pros: I bought this scanner for home use. We have 1000+ books and wanted to create a library database. Plug & play setup worked great. Basic configuration for the sounds and scan duration were easy.

Cons: As another user stated, the manual leaves a little to be desired if you're not a barcoding pro.

Other Thoughts: This scanner allowed me to enter 100+ books per hour, limited only by the speed of the software. Much better than entering 40 per hour manually. I think the scanner is well worth the price for a homeowner or a small shop.

Do yourself a favor and buy a USB extension cable. I plugged it in to my laptop so I can take it to the books, but the cable is still a little too short.

To the reviewer that complained about the constant scanning: check the manual. You can set it to turn off after a couple of seconds of inactivity.

3 out of 5 eggsUm...

Pros: It has cool sounds? And different Features. Good Plug and play. No problems in installation.

Cons: Its really light. Feel like your going to break it if you drop it. I don't recomend for constant use. Cable is really short. Its much harder to target things with this than our other ones. USB cable is too short. It is always scanning. Which is really anoying if you are in a retail store. (Keeps zapping your customers in the eyes or you.)

Other Thoughts: Ticked off my manager with the crazy sounds you set it to make!

4 out of 5 eggsJust works

Pros: Plugs right in the USB port and acts just like a keyboard. Scans pretty much any 1D barcode I throw in front of it. It scans backwards/upside down as well, making my hand pretty happy, as I don't have to twist it for the scanner to read. Also reads very small codes close-up and large codes at a large distance. Very customizable with sounds, LEDs, scanning abilities, etc.

Cons: Didn't come with the base/stand shown in the second picture.

Other Thoughts: My barcode scanner came in black, which I would have preferred over the gray anyway. Manuals may need some getting used to, but after I configured it once, the settings stay saved and I don't have to touch them again.
