The ScanMaker 5950 Pro offers the best of both worlds: a fast office document scanner and a flatbed photo scanner all in one compact footprint. Its 50-page automatic document feeder has a scan speed of seven pages per minute for B&W and three pages per minute for color. The scanner is capable of creating high-resolution images thanks to six rows of charge-coupled device (CCD) sensors with scans up to 2,400dpi and true 48-bit depth.

Eight Smart Touch buttons on the scanner front panel automate frequently performed tasks: Scan, Print, OCR, E-mail, Scan to Web, Setup/Cancel, Custom, and Power. An advanced OCR software package includes Nuance PaperPort SE document management software and ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR software.

Out of the box, you'll be able to start clearing up desktop paper clutter and transforming all your documents into editable digital formats. Setup is easy requiring nothing more than plugging in the included power adapter and connecting the scanner via a high-speed USB 2.0 cable (also included).

3 out of 5 eggsnot that bad

Pros: scanning 30+ pages in under 5 minutes is a life saver. i use this for scanning art (animation frames) and doing 30+ pages on a flatbed would take well over 30 minutes.

Cons: like others have said, the white "line" that appears when using the document feeder. not so much a line but more like a gap that runs the length of the page. also, this scanner is kind of bulky.

Other Thoughts: the noise level isn't that bad. i thought it was comparable to your average scanner. I've never used this to scan text, but i can see the lines that can appear from the document feeder being a problem. i would recommend this if you plan on using it for artistic purposes.

1 out of 5 eggsNot recommended at all

Pros: Not a single paper jam. Cheap.

Cons: * Feeder cuts little notches from the top of the page.
* One very small white line but visible enough that causes the OCR to misinterpret letters, say "I" becomes "ll".
* Pages (especially small ones) are distorted so that text shows in wavy lines. I had re-scan 7 pages out of 100.
* Customer support is not toll free.
* It is quite noisy, as loud as my old dishwasher.
* Software produces popups that steal focus (if you were typing without looking at the screen, you'll lose what you wrote after Microtek popup).
* Numbering of pages doesn't help for duplex scanning.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because a previous good experience with a Microtek scanner (4900). The only other review here complained about the noise, which I thought I could bear.

1 out of 5 eggsSLOW AND NOISY SCANNER

Pros: Good is that it has PDF scanning and legal size flat bed.

Cons: I purchased Microtek Scan Maker 5950 1108-03-540027 2400 x 4800dpi 48bit USB 2.0 Interface Flatbed Scanner about the month ago and I am not happy with it. I have small office and I have to scan in lot of contract and different info. This scanner is not as fast as it described and it is very, very noisy. But that is all bout it.

Other Thoughts: I would NOT recommend this product.
