4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as advertised - fast / many scan options/ optional text conversion is bonus when needed

Cons: Win7 - needs download - but better document management than vista - allows scanning directly to folders

Other Thoughts: Have used visioneer, and now as sold to xerox, scanners a lot (have over 15 strobe and xp100 sheet scanners since 2001 - like paperport that comes with it) - works very seamlessly

5 out of 5 eggsGreat portable scanner

Pros: The scanner is simply great. I use it primarily on Linux (Ubunutu) - it's fully supported by SANE. I did install the software briefly on a Windows machine - it went fine and seemed to scan well.

It's small and produces top-notch quality scans. You couldn't really ask for more.

Cons: No cons.

2 out of 5 eggsStill Not Worth It

Pros: USB powered, plenty of presets, plenty of configuration possible and finally price with promo code and mail in rebate.

Cons: Single sided scanning, document feeding issues, skewed pages no matter how the settings are adjusted, software crashing under Windows 7 and finally poor quality of scanned documents.

Other Thoughts: I needed a simple scanner for home to scan documents received in the mail & miscellaneous other items to help in going paperless and because my filing cabinet is full. Even with the resolution set at its max of 600 dpi the quality of the document is pretty bad and it is near impossible to get a straight document through the scanner. There are plenty of settings to be adjusted through the software but it seems that no matter what is adjusted it still can't produce a quality scan.

Portability is great being USB powered so it is easy to put away and get back out when needed but with the poor quality of the scans I wish I would have went in the other direction of getting a better quality scanner or sadly another AIO printer with a decent scanner.

All in all with the $85 promo code and $50 MIR this only cost me $50 but I still don't think it is worth the all the hassle just to get a decent scan for the simple purpose of home document archiving.

4 out of 5 eggsvery compact

Pros: does the job...

Cons: doesnt complain...

Other Thoughts: the guy "paperless" who gives the device a low score because he is using the wrong software, and he acknowledges it....and also refers to the "old square usb" which any slightly tech savy person knows is a USB2 which is the fastest and newest...should not allowed to rate tech products that he does not understand...

4 out of 5 eggsVery good price

Pros: The price is amazing with the xerox rebate. Just sent off for the rebate, assuming all will go well with it. Scanner is like other portable scanners, comes with little pouch. Good quality and generally easy to use.

Cons: Doesn't seem as easy to use as the Neat brand, but it was half the price. Can't figure out how to scan very large receipts effectively yet, but have only used it a few times so far. Definitely the best buy out there and worth the money

1 out of 5 eggsUsing this with other software.. dont

Pros: Scans quickly when it works USB powered, probably works great with its own proprietary software.

Cons: Uses old USB (Square) cable connector, Attempted to operate with 3rd party doc management tool took about about 2.5 hours just to get one receipt to scan in. Uses Visioneer One Touch software that stays resident in windows all the time. For those of you already stuck with this device and using 3rd party software you MUST insert the doc then press the button then scan if you do anything in any other order it will most likely lock up your tool you will have to force close and start over RAR!. After one night with this thing I quickly gave up and returned it to place of purchase.

Other Thoughts: Without mentioning any competitors there is another comparable scanner that I exchanged for. The difference is black and white to put it neatly. Same price huge difference in driver, hardware quality and attention to detail.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need

Pros: Small, USB powered, auto feed, price, easy software, scans direct to PDF. Newegg has a great price now with the $40 promo, $50 rebate, $26 discount, and free shipping. Windows 7 drivers can be downloaded from Xerox.

Cons: Difficult to get paper fed in correctly. This results in blank space on the top of your scanned document and perhaps cutting off the bottom. The software should automatically crop the top and scan to the end, but it doesn't. It usually takes 2 or 3 tries to get an full page scanned correctly.

Other Thoughts: I'm moving my very small business to digital archives. I use this to scan in new receipts and it is easy enough for my pre-teen kids to scan in my previous year's files. The post processing software makes it easy to review, rename, move, and combine PDF scans. I use it with Vista and XP.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This scanner both looks and works great! It is lightweight, small, quiet, and above all: simple. I'm most impressed with the software included. Crooked documents were straightened, blank scan spaces were erased, and scanned parts were shifted up accordingly, all automatically with no setting adjustments required. The software was intuitive to use and installation didn't automatically include bloatware (though, you can select to add it if you really, really want to...)

Cons: It took some practice to learn how to feed papers into the scanner. The paper would sometimes snag on something in the initial feed, creating some black heading on the scan (which the software cleaned up beautifully). After a while I figured out I wasn't pushing the paper in forcefully enough, not that you need to cram it in or anything for it to work.

Other Thoughts: I'm a college student and I bought this to scan completed homework, tests, and other letter-sized documents to store on my hard drive. This + campus printers replaced my large all-in-one, creating more desk space and freeing an electrical plug. I highly recommend this scanner!

4 out of 5 eggsSmall and Quiet

Pros: Small, Quiet, No external power supply, nice travel case.

Cons: The default delay of 500ms will result in skewed images, needed to set the delay to 900ms.

Other Thoughts: I have an old laserjet 5si networked in at my house. It is a workhorse, so I did not need an all in one. I don't have the room around my computer for a flat bed scanner. Since I mainly needed a scanner for copying documents, this fit the bill. I also carry it with my laptop since it is so small.
