The software makes this scanner!
- Pros: Fast scanning, can scan biz cards, receipts, and standard paper sizes. The software has been improved dramatically from version 3.0 of NeatReceipts. The scanning could be better (still love my Fujitsu S300 for PDF scanning over this as on several occasions, even on the same scan, the Neat scanner broke up a multipage document into seperate documents) but scan quality/straightening/deskew was good.
Will scan (OCR) or PDF by button press on scanner without the need to start the software manually. So much better scanner than the old Plustek Piece of Stuffing that came with NeatReceipts there's very little comparison.
- Cons: I'd say that they need to work on multipage scans more than they have as it seems to split up some but not all multipage scans on a random basis. The paper grab on this scanner is worse than the ScanSnap S300 (which of course was worse than the ScanSnap S510). Not to say it's terrible or bad, but it sure could be better.
- Other Thoughts: I'm much happer with the new Neat software than the old NeatReceipts, it's designed better, more akin to PaperPort or the software that's included with the Deluxe version of the ScanSnap - Rack2Filer.
Keep in mind that Neat software is far more than just document capture. It will collate, OCR your receipts, business cards, documents and it's amazing what you DON'T have to tell Neat to make it easier to categorize.
Every business should have one of these. Hope that helps.
Doesn't work well as scanner for other apps
- Pros: The scanner works well for organizing documents and receipts through its custom software. The software is SQL Server Express backended to maintain your files.
- Cons: The scanner driver is horrible. The scanner works very poorly as a standard TWAIN scanner for other applications. I eventually returned the unit because I did not want 2 scanners on my desk, and for the high price they really could include better basic scan support rather than focusing soley on their application. Tech support was no help, I was told only their software is supported.
- Other Thoughts: For the high price, basic TWAIN scanning should be included.
