Neat Desk Desktop Scanner and Digital Filing System - PC

Cons: Neat Desk does not make Neat copies. Lot of dark areas 0n the sides. Tech support did not help. I will not recommend this scanner to any one

Pros: Can scan documents, business cards and receipts.

Cons: Don't have any cons yet since I don't have the ability to use it.

Other Thoughts: This product was shipped out to me without software installation cd, scanner calibration paper and the quick start guide. Not very helpful with out these item. It is now just a big paper weight. I hope this will be heard since I don't want to wait 3days to do the paperwork to send it back and wait till Newegg tells me that I didn't receive these item which will take up to 3 days. Then it will take another 3 days for me to receive a replacement. I am downloading the software from the website and hope I can make do without the calibration paper.

Pros: I can think of no pros that will over come the negatives.

Cons: 1. This scanner only works with Neat software. Its a paperweight otherwise. 2. The desktop software that came with mine worked pretty well for me but I made the mistake of hitting the software update button before I realized that by doing so, I lost the ability to access all of the data that I had scanned into Neat. In my case it was only my business cards, but it would have been a TOTAL DISASTER if I had put critical documents into the Neat system. I complained to Neat and was given a download for the desktop version to reinstall. HOWEVER, NONE OF MY BACKUP FILES ARE COMPATIBLE WITH IT!!!!!

If you use this product, you will be required to subscribe to the Neat "Cloud". I don't use the "cloud" to keep my important documents, after all its not a "Cloud" it just a remote server and it will be secure as long as, 1. They keep the server running and, 2. You pay them.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT TO ARCHIVE IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS.

Pros: The Neat product seerves its purpose when all you want is to scan your receipts and documents.

Cons: Will accumulate receipts and documents forever.
If you scan documents for three years, whenever you print reports, you will get totals for 3 years. I contacted Support and all I got was excuses. BAD investment.

Pros: Easy setup and install. Good software

Cons: Miss feeds often.

Other Thoughts: Looking forward to seeing the product of 7 years worth of paperwork be reduced to electronic format.

Pros: Good When it works

Cons: Folders disappeared, with my data, when I upgraded from XP to Windows 7

Other Thoughts: Software worked for over a year but stopped working after an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. The software would not open, telling me it could not start the database. Calls to tech support revealed two folders had mysteriously disappeared; the Database and Tax Info folders. All other data, (Documents, Pictures, Programs) were intact after the upgrade, but these two folders were gone. Tech support had no explanation, told me they had not seen the problem before and washed their hands of the issue. They told me they considered the matter closed and asked to close the ticket. I asked if I would receive an email confirming this, and if that email would contain the text of the ticket and was told yes. I never received an email from them. I find the response from tech support unacceptable. It appears the software may have a glitch that could jeopardize your data and potential users should be aware of this.

Pros: It's a "neat" idea. HORRIBLY implemented.

Cons: This thing is a joke. It only supports Windows. It uses no open standards for device operation, so it is useless with Linux, Android, Google Chrome OS, or any yucky Apple devices (Apple is included only for the purpose of the argument).

Dear Neat people: this isn't Kansas any more! This isn't 1995 or 2000. WINDOWS is not a requirement. Please stop with the proprietary software and get with the program: people want cross platform software and open standards to work with their [more or less] open devices.

You can't ignore the fact that people A) have multiple devices that aren't all made by Microsoftopoly, and B) want to use something besides a slow Windows computer and want to get away from Microsoftopoly land.

Pros: Great Scanner!!! Very fast, very efficient. Cleared alot of old clutter from my desk and reduced the volume of my file cabinet. A must for the self employed!!!! Just remember to back up your data.

Cons: Dont expect too much from this scanner. Great for a business write off but for the home user u can find a better product due to its price. Some troubles installing software.

Other Thoughts: I thought the software did what it claimed to do I also got the bonus PDF program from Nuiance (which is a great program) It does what it claims

Cons: Recieved the product and it was broken

Other Thoughts: Currently working with Neat to get the unit replaced, will update review once I see a working unit.

Pros: The scanner works well for organizing documents and receipts through its custom software. The software is SQL Server Express backended to maintain your files.

Cons: The scanner driver is horrible. The scanner works very poorly as a standard TWAIN scanner for other applications. I eventually returned the unit because I did not want 2 scanners on my desk, and for the high price they really could include better basic scan support rather than focusing soley on their application. Tech support was no help, I was told only their software is supported.

Other Thoughts: For the high price, basic TWAIN scanning should be included.
