1 out of 5 eggsExcruciatingly SLOW transfer speeds

Pros: None

Cons: Slow

Other Thoughts: This reader is an extreme dissapointment. I have been needing a high speed ingest solution for FCPX in my 2011 17" Macbook Pro, which only has USB 2.0. Ingest transfer speed with USB 2.0 SD card readers is around 33MB/s read, 25MB/s write. With this Sonnet card, I only get 18MB/s read, and 10MB/s write on the same cards. Talk about a waste of money. The tightness of the SD card slot also means that when you pull out the SD card, the entire Expresscard adaptor comes out with it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent addon. If you have a Mac and you don't want to use a USB to SD adaptor, this is it. I have used 8, 16, 32, and 64GB SD cards in this device flawlessly. Performance is great, blows away the clunky USB interface. It fits flush to the outside of the computer, so I leave it in all the time.

Cons: But don't leave a SD card inserted all the time. An inserted SD card sticks out about 6mm. This means that it can and will snag when transporting the computer. (ask me how I know):

Other Thoughts: XD card compatibility would be great.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't read Memory Stick Pro Duo

Pros: It reads SD cards very well on my MacBook Pro. Fits flush, so it can remain in the express card slot in the MacBook— although that leaves the slot open, so if you throw your 'Book in a backpack, it'll probably get full of lint & crumbs. Plug & Play for SD cards. Compact Flash cards will need an adapter.

Cons: It does not read Memory Stick Pro Duo cards at all. The cards don't fit well, so you'll have to experiment around to get them in correctly...but there really is no "correctly" because it won't read them anyway. I also tried an adapter for the Pro Duo, which does fit nicely into the ExpressCard Reader. But the reader still won't read the Pro Duo even with an adapter. Since I bought this reader specifically to read Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, it's not worth anything to me because it doesn't work. Maybe I got a lemon, but this card reader appears to be pure crapware.

Other Thoughts: The best bet for Pro Duo card users might be "the camera cable via USB" old-school approach until some tech gets on the ball and engineers a card reader that really works.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card!

Pros: Flush with side on my 15" unibody MacBook Pro.
Works great.
Fast.

Cons: Sometimes comes loose when pulling an SD card out.

Other Thoughts: It was a little expensive, but worth it for my non-SD card slotted MBP.

4 out of 5 eggsSoNNeT was decent.

Pros: Reads memory cards quickly, as advertised. Actually read a Memory Stick Pro Duo without an adapter, which the packaging says it needs. Might be able to read others without an adapter. Lays pretty flush with my laptop casing so I can travel with it in pretty easily.

Cons: This card requires adapters for many of the cards it says it can read. So, it really is a 3-in-1 (full size Mem Stick, SD Card, etc) like the rest of the ExpressCard readers. It is tiny and slides around in and pops out of a full size EC slot. Lays pretty flush with my laptop casing so I can travel with it in pretty easily.

Other Thoughts: I don't like that SoNNeT advertises this as a 21-in-1, when you really need adapters for many cards. I felt like it was false advertising not to say that on their website or on the Newegg page.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Supports 21 formats, works as advertised.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Works well with directly in an Expresscard slot, and with Expresscard 34 to PC Cardbus (PCMCIA) adapters (ex. Koutech.)
