4 out of 5 eggsTerrific AP

Pros: All of the "pros" of having a Cisco - reliability, support, performance, etc..

Cons: All of the "cons" of having a Cisco - high price, having to pay for ANY support.

Other Thoughts: These units are nice and solid - both in the sense of performance and in the sense of physical build. High performance, vast security options. This model can be run standalone or a lightweight AP, so it can be used with or without a WLAN controller.

This unit also has a 2.4GHz "G" radio and a 5GHz "A" radio. If you're not going to use A, you can save a few bucks and get the version without it.

Performance is terrific. I haven't done PPS measurements, but using it for latency-critical PCoIP streams gives much better seat-of-the-pants feel than other APs that I've used.

This unit does not come with antennas, you will need to purchase RP-TNC antennas to go with it.

The firmware on this is a bit dated, and the GUI is quite buggy. You can only get a newer firmware version from Cisco if you pay for a support contract. So, if you're an IOS person, use the command line. If you must use the GUI, use IE, be patient, search for online guides, and DO NOT use the "Express setup" or "Express security".

Mounting bracket is quite nice, and includes adapters to mount it directly to the T-channel in your suspended ceiling. Has provision for a secure cable, or even for a padlock.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Using these in a warehouse, environment in Houston, TX. High heat, high humidity, never a problem! Four of them are completely blanketing our 350,000 sqft. Even between large racks with solid freight on them.

Four External antenna capable (Two 802.11a, Two 802.11g)
Multiple SSIDs and Security Methods.
SSID to VLAN mapping!
Powered off DC adapter or PoE.

Cons: They do seem to run hot. In the summertime, when its 95+ outside, the bottom of the AP can burn you. (They still run strong though)

Other Thoughts: Hate that I've paid for the Cisco smartnet for the past two years on the four of these I've owned. It's a waste of my money, haven't had a single issue!

5 out of 5 eggsBest pre-802.11n AP

Pros: multi-ssid pre wireless interface, so many more I can't list them

Cons: Requires some knowledge of configuring Cisco equ

Other Thoughts: Look for the 1250ap for 802.11n
