No power supply
- Pros: SIIG is good name brand.
- Cons: No power supply comes with the card. I find this unforgivable because it will not run most firewire devices that use a fair amount of power such as hard drives. You can buy one from their site for $20 but come on. Its not like its an unnecessary add on.
Easy to damage because it hangs out so far. I thought it stick out only 1/2 inch but in reality almost 2", that's really a lot. If hit with any force the plastic would easily snap not to mention damage your express slot.
- Other Thoughts: I wanted to plug my camcorder into the built-in firewire port and plug 2.5" Lacie 5400rpm external drive into this and capture video to it. I assumed 6 pin firewire would power the hard drive, on desktops it does but not on laptops using this in the express card slot. One of the main reasons I got this was so I would need to power the hard drive externally.
Excellent Product
- Pros: This is a great product!!!!! i have a Toshiba qosmiox305 laptop it has a 4 pin firewire connection on the back of it but the specs for the hardware i needed to attach to it said they do not recommend 6 pin to 4 pin only 6 to 6 . I do mostly Music production/composing and high end editing. I needed this product to connect my Audio interface(Tascam Fw-1082) which is firewire obviously. very simple plug and play.
- Cons: No CONS.... well except for the fact that i have a 34 connection in a 54/34 which is a little loose but nothing serious.
- Other Thoughts: For anyone who is thinking about getting this product.... GET IT!!!!! This thing does exactly what you need it to do... Im doing high end Audio work so this should work for any other application that is applied to it... oh and it does have The Texas Instrument chip... thats what it says at least when i look in my device manager. GREAT PRODUCT... NEWEGG is the best!!!!!!!!! SIgg makes GREAT PRODUCTS!!!!!
Needs power
- Pros: Didn't have to install any drivers for Windows XP.
- Cons: Did not provide enough power for my external firewire hard drive to work. I had to by the optional power adapter for $20 extra.
- Other Thoughts: May work with cameras and others but don't depend on it to work with an external hard drive without being prepared to buy a power adapter.
