2 out of 5 eggsIntermittent FW800 Connector Kills this Product

Pros: Has TI chipset. Easy to install and setup.

Cons: Doesn't solve audio hiccups problem. But worse thing that turned me right off was when I *touched* the FW 800 plug, moving it just a fraction of a millimeter, the computer produced a BSOD and my recording was trashed. I need reliable firewire for recording classical concerts. This would not make it through the conductor's opening announcements. Even the slightest movement of the connector interrupts the data and crashes Windows 7. I am returning this product as DEFECTIVE.

Other Thoughts: The unit is bulky and sticks way out from the ExpressCard slot. Cannot leave it permanently in the laptop, so it's another item I must worry about packing/losing/breaking when on the go on concert tours.

5 out of 5 eggsSeamless Detection in Windows 7 x64

Pros: Cold-boot from Windows 7, and the device will be seamlessly detected. In-box OHCI drivers will be loaded, and will work fine.

This is a big plus if restoring from a Windows PE or RE environment, as no third-party mass-storage drivers need be loaded to access external devices.

Cons: A conductive-plastic case would have been nice, since the unit protrudes enough to warrant removing the card before putting the laptop away. All you get is a nice anti-static bag.

Other Thoughts: ExpressCards seem inherently not to latch in very securely, but this seems to be inherent in the standard, not a fault in implementation of the device.

4 out of 5 eggsSIIG adapter works great! after googling...

Pros: Works great with my dual core Lenovo 3000 y410 and Windows 7 64-bit when using my Presonus FireStudio Mobile. Read the review of another user here and thought it might work for me and I was right. High Quality! Fits snugly in my 54mm ExpressCard slot! Delivers firewire signal both to and from laptop whereas my previous dynex product only went to the laptop and not back to my device for monitoring.

Cons: One serious con: pay attention if you are thinking of investing in this item! After installing the card Windows would not detect it properly complaining, "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" broken. Googling led me to reboot my PC with the device STILL PLUGGED IN and then windows found the drivers and all was well!

5 out of 5 eggsILUVPresonus

Pros: Does what it says it will do! You PreSonus Firewire PC guys
having trouble, this solved my connection to a X505-Q890
TOSHIBA! Granted a i7 with 6 gig lots of horse power,SSD.
Sits firmly in the card slot, very stable.

Cons: Little Priecy but after 2k on 16.4.2 & 2k on Lap Top, well
worth it!

Other Thoughts: I'm using a Toshiba X505-Q890 (which I also purchased from Newegg) with a PreSonus digital firewire mixer. After weeks of frustration I went with this Express Card against
the advice of the Presonus Forums. I did not install the 800 driver, (did install MS hotfix). Went with this because I didn't want the smaller card(s) hanging out of my Lap Top. Mixer control and Capture now working great! Stick that you M-Pro Guys! Newegg, many years I've been happy with your service!

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Seems well made and works with my older sony dvxr1000 cam,
I chose this card because of it is a full width card, wont move around in slot like the half cards. Will be getting a external drive W/firewire 800 transfer for storage and video editing.

Cons: Cant use both ports at the same time.....
a bit expensive : (

Other Thoughts: I like the fact it has old 1394a and new 1394b specs.
