1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work well at all

Pros: Sits flush with edge of laptop

Cons: - Seems to only detect a given USB device once, after a windows reboot, then never again, rendering it useless until you reboot the computer again
- Drivers seem to be immature and problematic with my Windows 7 64-bit laptop
- Even using the extra power jack, it seems incapable of powering my external 1TB notebook drive
- If you push too hard inserting a USB plug, chances are the laptop's spring mechanism will eject the expresscard midway through Window's PnP detection routine, leaving your USB drive's status in an unknown and possibly damaged state.

Other Thoughts: Too many bugs in this product, I would seek another manufacturer.

3 out of 5 eggsOk with thumb drive, no go with disk enclosure

Pros: Prefer exposed black color when in the slot (rather than silver or metal).

Works fine with a Mushkin Ventura Pro 32 GB thumb drive.

Does 110 MB/s read, 55 MB/s write with the Mushkin. (Performance seems to be limited by the laptop's ExpressCard PCIe slot.)

USB power cable is perfect length, 24 inches. However, this doesn't help - see Cons.

Cons: Drops connection with disk enclosures, including Crucial M4 256GB SSD in either a SilverStone RVS02 or Thermaltake Silver River 5G. Seems to get insufficient power under load. Get disconnects even if BOTH EC02 ExpressCard and disk enclosure USB power cables are plugged in. Playing with "Power Management" settings didn't help. Was using latest driver (2.1.27.0) from SilverStone's website.

Other Thoughts: Returned the SilverStone EC02 and replaced with a SIIG JU-EC0212-S1 ExpressCard (that uses a more efficient uPD720200A chip), which didn't have disconnects with either disk enclosure, although at least one of the ExpressCard or enclosure must utilize their USB power cable. (Seems ExpressCard PCIe power specs are less than USB 3.0, meaning an ExpressCard slot can't supply full power per USB 3.0 spec.)

ExpressCard size is standardized, so whether it's flush is totally dependant on one's laptop. "Flush" with screen lid on VAIO Z (similar to way VGA connector sticks out).

On VAIO Z, its ExpressCard slot is spring-latched (press in once to latch in place, press in again to unlatch and remove). Must be careful to not unlatch ExpressCard when inserting a USB device. Also, must hold ExpressCard when removing USB device. Just the nature of ExpressCards, not specific to this device.

Laptop:
Sony VAIO Z VPC-Z1190X

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Add on

Pros: Performs as advertised, helps in transfering large files...

Cons: Gets a little warm, unplugging SATA cablee will pull card from laptop, must hold card in place whenever you unplug the cable, needs a locking system ....

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to go in my Dell Studio 1747 along with my external SATA 3 enclosure housing 2 of my old 500Gig 2.5 Drives, transferring a 8.3 Gig file using SATA 2 on the laptop took about 4 1/2 minutes, with the new SATA 3 card the same file now tranfers in 60 Seconds , nice.....

1 out of 5 eggsDrops connection often

Pros: Fits inside expresscard slot with little overhang.
When it will make a connection to hard drive, it works fine.

Cons: Drops connection to external hard drive often, sometimes will not connect at all (the hard drive works perfectly fine with my desktop computer).
Runs very hot - may be the issue with dropping connection.
Pops out of slot when inserting or removing USB cable (maybe just the way it is with expresscard slots).

Other Thoughts: I am buying a different branding, hoping for better results.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed. Very discrete.

Pros: Super fast, discrete, runs cool, comes with USB power cable.

Cons: Easily pulled out if you're not careful(not a very big con, not enough to knock off an egg, just be gentle)

Other Thoughts: Despite other products having complaints about the heat output of these slim 3.0's, mine has been warm at most during extended use even. Definitely surpassed my expectations.

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't recognize any USB device I've plugged into it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: - Edge sits flush on my Dell Latitude E6510. I was worried it might protrude a bit based on the earlier reviewer's comments, but this is not the case on my laptop.
- Comes with a removable power cord to get additional juice from an adjacent USB port for USB 3 devices that need more power.

Cons: - Like other guy said, when you pull the USB cable out, it takes the card with it unless you hold an edge of the expresscard to keep it from moving.
- Driver installation was not automatic, needed to use the supplied CD rom. No problems installing the drivers on Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Other Thoughts: In my brief testing, I got a transfer rate of about 46MB/s on this USB 3 card vs. 26MB/s on the laptop's standard USB 2 port. Not "10X" faster as the USB 3 standards people would have you believe. Tested a 15GB file copy with a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 750GB external drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: The card works exactly as expected. All you have to do is pop it in and run the cd that is included. It took me about 1min total for setup before I could begin using in on my dell latitude e6420.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I would purchase this again or recommend this to a friend who needs a USB 3.0 port on a laptop

4 out of 5 eggsReasonable Item for the Dollar

Pros: ~Flush mounted express card sits only a few millimeters outside an ExpressCard slot.
~Transfer speeds are very reasonable in both USB 3.0 and 2.0. USB 2.0 gave a read of 28MB/sec and write of 7.8MB/sec using an old flash drive. Read speeds of 83MB/sec and write speeds of 78MB/sec reached using USB 3.0 external HDD.
~Card reached 110 degrees F after 30 minutes of constant use.

Cons: ~Card requires additional voltage when a high powered USB drive is connected. Supplied power cord requires USB slot on same side of laptop to be functional.
~Card consistently slips out of ExpressCard slot when any device is being removed. Card must be physically restrained to pull device.
~Drivers supplied on Minidisc. With many laptops using slot loading optical drives, this means drivers have to be migrated to another medium by desktop or with a disc adapter.

Other Thoughts: Though this card runs 75% more than other brands at the time of this writing, I would recommend use of this card to anyone concerned about performance. Reliability is not accounted for in this review due to short length of ownership.
Tests were performed on a Dell Studio 1747 using a SanDisk Cruzer 4.0GB flash drive (USB 2.0) and a WD Mybook 3.0 external HDD. Check Flash 1.16.2 used for benchmarking.
