5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plug and Play with Windows 7. Used with older notebook having Core Duo 2.2MHz CPU, 1 GB Ethernet NIC and drives capable of 70MB/s sustained. Was able to consistently run at 50+ MB/sec.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for my Macbook Pro

Pros: It works with my Macbook Pro and my Rosewill enclosure. It's cheap. It works with OSX.

Cons: It can't boot with my Macbook Pro. But this isn't really a criticism of the card so much as the EFI firmware on the MBP.

5 out of 5 eggsRead this if you use OSX 10.5

Pros: The card works in my system. (macbook Pro 2.16 core duo) It was cheap and identical to the other expensive ones (same chipset) It was recognized once i installed the drivers from silicon Image and it transfers data quickly. My 750gb sata II runs just like if not faster than my internal 100gb 7200 rpm notebook drive. I use 10.5 leopard and i installed the drivers with the raid support. All OSX users read cons.

Cons: It seems i got lucky, in OSX 10.5 express cards based on the Si chipsets (about 95% of them) can and for the most part cause kernel panics and OSX to run very unstably. For others its fine, like in my case and it is unpredictable. SI also has not updated there drivers sense 2006. It doesn't matter what manufacturer you go with because there the same cards that work with the same drivers. Also because you need drivers you cant boot from it. However there is hope. a small percent of cards are made with another chipset. I cant mention it but they offer plug and play support for osx which means you can boot off them and they are not prone to the stability issues. Newegg has one of them.

Other Thoughts: Again my experience has been very positive. It fast, it works well with my esata case and i couldn't be happier but for OSX users be aware that all SI chipset based cards can cause problems.
Oh newegg also got it to me right on time, I love them.

4 out of 5 eggsIt actually can support RAID

Pros: It took alot of fiddling but I finally got RAID 1 to work on this card. The card itself is Sil 3134 SATALink which is a nonraid controller, however since it treats the HDDs independantly, if you are running Windows XP Pro or Windows Server (supposly the only two which will do this...) you can go in to admin tools (once enabled in start menu), convert the two drives to dynamic, delete the partitions and recreate using a Striping method (RAID 1).

Cons: I have been having a very hard time doing a full format on the disk. It seems to eject the HDDs sometimes either from me bumping the card or some read error. Been also 1 occasion where it crashed windows when I was formatting and bumped the card.

Other Thoughts: It isn't the most attractive looking setup but for what I go it for its doing a pretty good job. I havnt really noticed a performance difference using it as a RAID 1 however, but little more convient with just drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Easy to use, does what it needs to do, fast, slim profile

Cons: you have to hold the card when you insert esata cords otherwise the unit pops out, no biggie

Other Thoughts: the only thing to make this better would be a case

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Finally, a card that works.

Cons: blocks my audio outlet. :(

Other Thoughts: I've been through quite a few of these expressCard things, and this one works with my DELL Latitude D830 laptop. Sweet.

5 out of 5 eggsAll I could ask for.

Pros: Hot plug and play is a handy feature. Works exactly as expected with no complaints.

Cons: If I had to say anything, the way the eSATA slots stack blocks some ports on my laptop. But that is really the laptop design engineer's fault. No real problems I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Have not tried RAID capabilities so I can't comment on that aspect. But if you're looking for an eSATA expresscard, this is it plain and simple.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm at peace

Pros: Works as advertised, Sil3132 chipset has good, altough quixotic, driver support from Silicon Image. Got it running easily under 32 and 64 bit winders vista. Perceived speed is great - no quantitative tests run thus far. I have found Zen bliss with Sil3132.

Cons: My little spring thingy in the expresscard slot of my laptop releases the card every time I try attach the esata cable. No fault of the card itself, mind you. Big old dongle sticks out of said expresscard slot exactly where my big right hand likes to rest. Again, no fault of the card, just keep this in mind.

Other Thoughts: Be doomsday certain to run vista winders update through device manager for the scsi actuator node of the sil3132 drive controller!!!! The Sil scsi act. kept shutting down the disk every minute or 2 while running a VPC off the esata disk. You DO want the MS scsi act. NOT the packaged Sil chunk. I mean to tell you it sounded like old scratch hisself had infested my external sata drive enclosure. Click! Pop! Whirrrrrr! Scary my friend, scary.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value!

Pros: Based on the sil3132 chipset, it works out of the box with Ubuntu Gutsy. Contrary to what other reviewers have said, it does support SMART, the indicator LEDs work just fine, and it has 2 independent esata ports and requires one ExpressCard/34 port. If the chipset is any indication, in should also support port multipliers and RAID 0 and 1 (although I've never tried these). The sil3132 also supports NCQ, out-of-order delivery, hotplugging, and other features more expensive cards mention in their specs but this card for some reason doesn't mention in its specs.

Cons: As you can see from the picture, the esata ports are stacked one on top of the other -- don't expect to place another card above this one. (Although I have placed a low-profile card below it.) If you need a low-profile esata card, get a 34 with one esata port or a 54 with two esata ports.

Other Thoughts: Currently priced at around half of what comparable cards using the same chipset are going for -- a real steal!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Mac Backup

Pros: Mac drivers, works perfectly.

Cons: Only one slot.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this to backup my MacBook Pro C2D (Late 2006) model to a Seagate SATA drive, unjumpered, in a Rosewill USB/eSATA case, all from Newegg. Perfect backups, up to 3x faster than USB in some of my tests (neither running near their theoretical maximum).
