5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap price. Good performance. Does what its designed to do. Software cd actually had the correct driver for windows 7 64 bit. Got the card fast in the mail. Great deal on a usable serial port card for new laptops.

Cons: Card tends to get unseated rather easy in my laptop expressbus slot. Have to be careful not to bump into it with my hand when using my mouse. Worse case scenario is that I have to restart my software (Vixen) to re-initialize the card. Not worth removing an egg over though.

Other Thoughts: Running this serial card to test my christmas light display (Renard controller running on Vixen) with my laptop. I have no lag issues with sound/light sync. Wish my laptop manufacture would have put the Expressbus card slot on the left side of my laptop. Kind of a pain with a mouse.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Crestron

Pros: I've been using this card to program a Crestron processor and it's been working great so far.

Very inexpensive and it showed up in a few days.

Cons: None so far. The card slides out of the computer sometimes when I pull the RS-232 cable off of it.

5 out of 5 eggsIt Works!!!!

Pros: Worked out of the box, installed drivers from Windows Update on my laptop, another way is manually add the device and browse to driver on the included CD. Running the installer (setup.exe) on the CD did not worked for me. I can now configure my Cisco routers/switches with this device..

Cons: Not free..

Other Thoughts: Installed on a Dell E6520 laptop with Windows 7 Pro x32..

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless thus far

Pros: Installations on Windows 7 64bit Professional was as simple as plug and play. Used windows update drivers to automatically configure the device as COM1. Using this card on my Lenovo Laptop with putty for serial connections. Worked better than expected.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFinally!

Pros: I finally found the answer for a serial port on my laptop. I have windows 7 64 bit and I tried a bunch of serial to usb ports to try to find one that would work for tuning cars. All the others either didn't work, would occasionally drop out, or would fail completely after a few uses.

Cons: None that I have been able to find.

4 out of 5 eggsThis thing rocks!

Pros: This thing rocks! I use it with a Apple MacBook Pro 17" and I could not be happier. I have tested it with both Windows 7 64bit (booted via boot camp) and Mac OS 10.6.6 and it worked perfectly in both. The description and the MFG website says that the product only works with Mac OS 10.4 so I was cautious about buying this cart. Amazingly, I plugged it into my Expresscard/34 slot and Mac OS 10.6.6 detected it without any additional driver install whatsoever!

I use this product for both business and recreational reasons. The primary use is for network device programming (I am a network Engineer) however I also use it to tune my car. I use the Hydra 2.6 EMS ECU in my 2005 Subaru STI and this is the only solution that I have ever found to work 100% perfectly. Every USB to serial adapter that I have tested seems to (including the USB based Expresscard/34 products) cause stability issues with the Hydra software while this PCIe based card is perfect.

Cons: The construction of the card seems pretty cheap and flimsy. I was concerned enough that I actually purchased a second car to keep on hand as a spare. If it weren't for the construction this would have been an easy five egg rating.

Other Thoughts: At under $20 this product is fantastic but I would have rather paid $50 to get one with better construction. Either way, I highly suggest this device for anyone in need of a very stable RS232 connection for industrial, networking and automotive tuning needs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Worked great on XP, Vista and Linux machines.
True serial port on PCIe (not USB) bus!
Performed very well while connecting to Cisco routers and CarSoft adapter.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I wish it was built into my laptop

5 out of 5 eggsBring back Serial!

Pros: Excellent product. Arrived on time and undamaged. Plugged in the card into my Windows 7 x64 machine, and drivers were found automatically from windows update. On my windows XP machine they were found by manually going to windows update. After it was setup, my new Com port was fully functional and I was programming micro controllers!

Cons: The only complaint is with the included driver disk. Many novice users will try to use the disc, but Syba uses one disc for ALL of their peripheral devices. So just as a caution to you novice users, let your operating system look for the drivers/packages from online first before trying to look through the driver disk.

Other Thoughts: This product works without a hitch, makes me wonder why some other manufacturers on the Egg charge almost three times as much!

5 out of 5 eggsworks in xp

Pros: Gives you a true RS232 serial port that works way better that every USB to RS232 adapter that I have tried.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Works great in XP, but the drivers aren't very user friendly to install. Some of these that I ordered didn't come with a driver disc but was able to obtain drivers from the net just search for MCS9901 and get the drivers from the chipset manufacturer. Vista and Win7 have built in drivers.
