Good LTO Tapes
This review is from: FUJIFILM 600003188 100/200GB LTO Ultrium 1 Storage Media 1 Pack
Pros: I go through approximately 200 Fujifilm Ultrium 1 tapes a year and get very few read/write errors or bad tapes. For years I was purchasing more expensive IBM tapes based on vendor recommendation and since switching I have noticed no difference.
Cons: Every now and then I receive a tape that will not write. As the data that is being written to these tapes is of a medical nature, I take no chances of using a tape that produces errors. It's quite possible these errors are correctable, but given that the failure rate so far is 6 out of 200, I don't bother.
Other Thoughts: I can't speak to the number of full read/write cycles of these tapes as most are single write and put in storage. I do have tapes that have been read extensively and I have never had a failed read, surprisingly. These tapes are being used in an old StorageTek L20 with Seagate LTO Ultrium 1 drives. Do yourself a favor and stop buying the more expensive tapes and give these a try, you won't be disappointed!
