2 out of 5 eggsOLD BATTERY

Pros: Low price, it turns on, it fits in the space I had.

Cons: The inspection report included with the backup indicated that it was manufactured over 4 years ago! Dated 2009 - I don't have hope this device will last long.

3 out of 5 eggsSoftware problem with Win7

Pros: I've been impressed with the quality of APC UPS products, and this item is no exception, all things considered. I'll seriously consider APC in the future, although the "con" noted below gives me pause.

Cons: APC UPSs come with "powerchute" software. Version 2.2 is glitchy on my 64 bit Win 7 Pro computer, and sometimes hangs at startup. To remedy this, APC came out with PowerChute version 3 ... but version 3 requires an administrator password every time you log on! -- They're working on a fix, and their online forums have details. I think it's something that prospective purchasers should know.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty disappointed

Pros: It worked for a while . . .

Cons: It only gave me 9 months of its life.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased several APC UPS's in the past for server and periferal protection for work over the past decade and will continue to purchase APC prodects but this one didn't last very long. I purchased this one for home and overload problems seem to be common with this unit. That steady beep is like getting the Blue-Screen of Death on a personal computer that won't go away with a restart. The load was a tower computer, monitor, printer, DSL modem, and 50" television. Well within its capacity. I've had pretty good luck with APC support in the past so I'm hoping for a replacement. I'll update if negative.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little UPS

Pros: I have had this unit for going on 6 years now. Other than new batteries every three years (installed my third set today), this thing has been a battle tank. Unit is small and uses standard 12v 7.2-7.5AH batteries. With using two standard batteries, you can get them cheap and just remake the battery pack yourself (I paid $25 a piece at battery warehouse).

Cons: Wouldn't mind it running my HP Proliant a little longer, but we all know its a 800VA so not really a complaint.

Other Thoughts: As far as the software... I run a linux based server and use "APCUPSD" to monitor my UPS through a web broswer. This unit auto detected and populated all the fields automatically! I strongly recommend this for a small backup, such as just a small server cpu or desktop. On a side note, can't go wrong with APC, I also have a 12 year old Backups 650 on its 5th battery thats still going strong backing up my AP and switches.

5 out of 5 eggsDoing well

Pros: Small, plenty of all kinds of ports

Cons: Nothing so far

Other Thoughts: Connected the battery and plugged all my necessary stuff in, inlcuding the phone line. Haven't encountered any problem so far, this thing works as it should.

Btw it works with my thecus n5500 NAS, by connecting the two with the enclosed RJ45-USB cable. The NAS shows the battery level and the power source. The only problem is that sometimes the NAS fails to read the info. Maybe a software problem on the NAS side.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Win2k8 Compatable

Pros: Nice clean look and low price makes this an attractive offering for your home office...

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows 2008 Server. Spoke with APC customer support and was told the firmware won't let this device work with the PowerChute Business, and the PowerChute Personal won't be made for Windows 2008.
Suggestion from APC is to use the APC SUA750US model but cost is twice as much.

Other Thoughts: Unbelievable that both APC and Newegg doesn't disclose the incompatability beforehand. Yes I can return it but then I pay shipping costs back to Newegg...

2 out of 5 eggs3 year failure

Pros: Had solid capacitors as far back as 06

Cons: Voltage sensor(s) went bad, relays were clicking on and off so fast it sounded like a stun gun.
All Chinese parts inside, what is there no Taiwan or even better, Japanese part manufactures out there??

Other Thoughts: This unit was for occasional outages, not power problems so it has had an easy life for only powering a 200W personal PC. Batteries only lasted 2 years.
Expected more from APC, so I changed to a different brand, insides on new don't look like it will last that long even, sadly it seems APC is the only good brand in this price range. Not happy I have to spend $300+ on anything that only looks like it might last 5+ yrs.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years now

Pros: after 2 years, still works perfect. I only run my cable modem, wireless router, voip adapter, & cordless phone off of this ups. The included software is cool. It allows you to adjust when it will kick on or off with voltage supply. I was having to reset my modem, voip & router all the time due to short power outages or maybe voltage spikes or drops. Got tired of messing with it. So I got this just for that. The included software shows the stuff i have connected is drawing 48 watts, it will run them for just over 2 hours, even after 2 years. It breaks it down into minutes until shutdown.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Never tried running any computers off of the power.

5 out of 5 eggsNeat

Pros: Alot smaller than the normal APC UPS systems I am occustomed to. Holds power a good amount of time. I am able to run a DELL XPS and home net work on it for approx 15-20 min on an average CPU load.

Cons: None so far.
