5 out of 5 eggsAnd miles to go I think...

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Solidly built. It just works.

Cons: none that I know of yet.

Other Thoughts: Friend gave this to me for my home studio. It already had several years on it. I have a Mac Power G4 and an entire home recording studio coming out of this for more than a year now and going strong. Has already saved me in several power down and ups / blips during recording sessions. Truly indispensable. Way better built than the Belkin I bought years ago for my wine cellar which didn't last even three years. I plan to buy another 750 for my PC setup in my study.

3 out of 5 eggsMust have

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Pretty good product to have for those unexpected blackouts, brownouts, and power surges. Worth the money to purchase, to save you computers from catastrophic failure.

Cons: Wish it had more time than 3 minutes, to power down machines, if you are away from the building. Find away to get at lease 15 to 20 minutes on full load.

Other Thoughts: Over all, it is still a good product to have to prevent and serious failures for a SoHo.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for taking the time to review our BE750G. We do appreciate the feedback. The BE750G is rated for 750 VA or 450 watts. With a 400 watt load attached, you should have 4 minutes of available runtime. If you need 15-20 minutes of available runtime, you may want to consider a slightly larger UPS or one that allows you to connect an external battery back.

1 out of 5 eggsConsistently fails right after warranty

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: It is a battery backup using a USB cable to control the automatic shutdown on the computer and has easy to configure software.

Cons: I have yet to find a reliable UPS (battery backup) company. I generally stick with APC and Tripplite. This line of APC products (and the ones that look similar) have been a let down. As soon as the 3 year warranty was up, it died a horrible death. They have a trade-in program. Guess what? The trade in price is higher than the price I would pay buying a brand new one from NewEgg (and that includes shipping).

Other Thoughts: I am a computer technician and buy a lot of tech for my clients. For the price you pay for a battery backup, someone has to do a better job. I am sick and tired of manufacturers who engineer products to break right after their warranty is up and who don't do anything to accommodate customers for repeat business and loyalty. This is bull.

2 out of 5 eggs2 of 2 units didn't last beyond 4 years

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Easy to use. Easy to replace battery. UPS monitoring well supported in Windows.

Cons: Both of the BE750G units I purchased in 2010 no longer properly charge the battery. They won't keep the battery full, and never reach proper float charge of 13.5V. I asked for assistance from APC, but they concluded my units were both defective. I had replaced the batteries recently on both, and tried the new batteries in different UPS units to confirm batteries were good and could charge properly. In summary, the charging circuits in both BE750G units failure after 4 years. I know the average SLA battery life is only about 4 years, but the UPS electronics should last longer.

Other Thoughts: I generally like APC products and have been a repeat customer for probably 15 years, but I won't be buying this particular model again.

5 out of 5 eggsGave its life for my computer

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: I only have good things to say about this device. Over the years my computer has been saved twice by APC's noble sacrifice. One gave its life in a storm, the one I am replacing now drown when a full glass of water fell right into it.

Cons: NONE

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well but should have gone with a smaller option

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Reliable
Easy set up

Cons: Large

Other Thoughts: I've always wanted a UPS and I finally bought one. I've heard stories in the past of UPS units lasting less than 5 minutes so I went ahead and got the APC 750. This one has enough battery power to run for a solid 30 minutes, which is way more than I need in the event of a power outage.

The power has surged and gone out for a few minutes on me twice since I've had it. Both times my computer stayed on and didn't notice anything.

I gave this one 3 eggs though because the "master" and "controlled by master" electrical ports weren't functioning properly. The idea is that when the item plugged in to "master" is on, electricity will also get provided to the "controlled by master" ports, and when the "master" is off, the "controlled by master" ports get the electricity cut to them. I tried and tried but couldn't get this feature to work, so all of my ports have power available all of the time.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APC BE750G Back-UPS 750 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Great. Useful. A must have.

Cons: None noted.

Other Thoughts: APC is a trusted name and I have been using their battery backups for over 10 years now and it has saved me many more dollars than I've spent purchasing and maintaining them (replacement batteries every 4-5 years)
Note: I've never used the interface on ANY of mine ever. They just work.
