5 out of 5 eggsA good product

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: After buying a new computer and having at least 5-10 power outages a year where i live buying a UPS was a must. While i haven't had any full major power outages yet i have had a few flickers here and there and the power goes down to 99% so its seems to be working great.

Cons: Haven't had any problems with it

Other Thoughts: When i opened it there was some sticky liquid stuff that was on in the inside of the box and on the padding there wasn't that much of it but i think something leaked into it when it was being delivered i just cleaned it up with a towel but other than that it was all good

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: When the power went out, it did the job of keeping my high-powered desktop and 29" monitor running long enough to save and shut down.

Cons: The beeping was irritating, but I guess it lets you know the power's still out. Half the plugs aren't on the battery side - be sure you plug into the correct side!

5 out of 5 eggsuseful small office item

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Have purchased many of these in last 7 years, & find them very useful. I always get the 550 VA and it works for me...lots of lightning strikes & power outages due storms in midwest!

Cons: These units have not disappointed me in multiple purchases over several years.

Other Thoughts: Buy them promptly when you can get them under $50!

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: reliable power backup that you can count on

Cons: all brands have batteries that eventually wear out.

Other Thoughts: I've used other brands that can be flaky, you get what you pay for. I just use apc now for all of my businesses.

5 out of 5 eggseasy and simple

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: lets say it was nearly 100% plug and play its grate for things like cable/dsl modems cordless phones as well. also a grate add on for a basic desktop to keep it safe and sound

Cons: only thing i did not like about it is it dose not tell you how many watts you are using in the apc software

Other Thoughts: what can i say that i already have not it was easy setup and working for what i needed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood UPS, Poor website

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Straight forward UPS with USB interface to PC (download PC software from website-- see Cons)

Cons: Pricier than CyberPower units, of which I have one and it's great, so I haven't yet seen any reason for the tax.

Their website experience was flat out poor. The site was quite slow: 5-20 secs page loads (on a 10Mbps fiber connection). To download the PC software, APC forces you to register for an account. I *hate* that. They email you your password in plain text (they tell you they're going to, so you know they're security dufuses up front), I experienced countless server errors, and an overly-long form got in a funky state and wouldn't let me submit, so I had to reload the page and fill it all out again. According to some error messages it looks like a lot of the site is done in Adobe ColdFusion. At this point, I'm just trying to download the manual for future reference and I'm stonewalled by server errors. I see all this and I think "They just don't care about their face to their customers." This is so ridiculous that I'm actually going to knock off an egg for the UPS, and look first to CyberPower for future UPS needs.

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't keep PC on

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: -Keeps some devices required
-Works as a surge protector

Cons: -Doesn't keep PC or monitor powered on

Other Thoughts: I specifically bought this UPS to prevent my PC from powering off when a power outage occurs. Unfortunately, when a power outage occurs, both my PC and the monitor go off with it, even though I have the USB cable connected to the power supply. At least it keeps my modem on and I can still charge my phone.

Just a heads-up for you readers: The power-loss beep alert must be turned off using the PowerChute software.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APC Back-UPS BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Does what it says:
Like any decent UPS, it conditions power, protects against surges/droops, and communicates back to my server about any power outage. That, and it was simple to setup.
Its also pretty small for a UPS and wall mountable.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I am not into buying brand names, but I work peripherally with enterprise power systems at my place of employment, and APC has earned itself a good name there. So being this is my first home UPS, I started with APC.

With that said, honestly, how can anyone accurately assess a UPS after only 30 days? Really you can't; not until the battery has aged a little. But I will say this much: I hooked it up to my headless HP N36L Microserver (with 6x 3.5" 5400 RPM Drives abd a 150w PSU) It loads at just 16% at maximum draw, And when the power goes out for more than 30 seconds, my server gracefully shuts itself down. Even as the battery ages, I expect this will serve me well for a few years.
