4 out of 5 eggsGood Product, Good Support

Pros: I have always used APC UPS'. They have always been great products. This one happened to be a lemon, but more on that later.
Love the energy saving capabilities, the LED display is clear and bright, the PowerChute Software is very interesting showing me the cost of operation etc.

Cons: My UPS started beeping one night, and it was near impossible to get it to stop beeping. It would stop for a minute and start again. I called APC, and talked to a rep, she had me re-install the batteries, and when it still didn't fix the problem, she sent me a new battery pack. It arrived at the speed of light. (they promised 3-5 days, it was here the next day).

After installing the new battery pack, everything went along fine for awhile, then in the middle of the night the UPS when crazy and started beeping again. I called APC, they walked me through some troubleshooting tips, and we got it back on-line.

A few weeks later, it again went into beep mode, and I called APC a 3rd time. This time, with no questions asked they sent me out a new unit. Again, it arrived the next day (not the 3-5 days they promised.) I installed it and so far so good. I love when a company stands solidly behind their products as APC does.

Part of the new Energy Efficiency implementation is a master plug, with other plugs that will operate depending on the current being drawn through the master. So if you have your computer on the master plug, and you turn on your computer, then the other things plugged into the outlets governed by the master should go on. The trick is that the device in the master has to draw a certain level of energy to turn on all the subordinate outlets. A cable modem doesn't draw enough power, therefore none of the other outlets would go on. This took some troubleshooting and some time walking through the manual to ensure that the UPS was sensitive enough to the amount of current being drawn by the item in the master outlet. This could have been implemented a little better.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully this new UPS will perform like all the other APC products I've had in the past. At one point I owned 9 APC UPS', and they all were fantastic.

1 out of 5 eggsLOUD! quality control sucks!

Pros: none

Cons: Noisy! anytime you pull more than 400 watts the fan turns on (support says its supposed to be 600 watst)
any time its charging the battery, the fan turns on
any time its on battery the fan turns on (this is expected)
anytime its above 70 degrees internal, the fan turns on

I RMA'ed the unit with APC, the new unit does the same thing, PLUS it has a bat Ethernet surge protection.

oh, and their support is APPALLING!
They literally asked me why I am connecting my PC to the unit... straight from their chat logs:
Manmita AM: Can I know why are you connecting the PC to the unit?
<My name>: ....
<My name>: so I can ride though blackouts and brownouts? and surge protection?

Other Thoughts: APC ain't what it used to be.

5 out of 5 eggsHome UPS

Pros: Entire unit is cheaper then buying new genuine APC batteries for my old UPS. USB NUTS support in FreeNAS, running in server mode. XenServer, pfSense, Windows servers all using NUTS clients. Works great and provides same functionality as I had with my networked SmartUPS. I needed auto shutdown functionality in the event of extended loss of power.

Cons: Not a Smart-UPS, but knew that before buying.

Other Thoughts: 42% load with my half rack of gear and it provides 14 minutes of runtime. Replaced an APC 1kVA Smart-UPS for extra runtime and load.

4 out of 5 eggsAPC 1500 VA UPS

Pros: As a business we run about 15 of these never lost a computer behind one to a power surge. Bought this one for home use and very happy with it.

Cons: None to speak of so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAPC FTW

Pros: Had a Cyberpower that stopped working and decided to go with APC after as that is what we use at my workplace. The LCD screen is easy to use and all outlets in the back are clearly marked. I have had excellent luck with their products and would recommend APC to anyone looking for a solid UPS.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: The APC 1500 is a great unit. I have 4 of them in my house, running various equipment. It can even power my 60" LCD TV and DVR for about 25 minutes! The LCD display on this APC is nice to see how much wattage the equipment is pulling. For testing, I've plugged in various household items just to see their wattage draw. Lots of plugs: 5 surge, 5 battery.

Cons: Not a huge deal, but these newer black APC 1500's are shorter and longer than the older beige 1500's. My TV cabinet was custom fit for a beige one, so when I upgraded to this black one I had to change my layout a bit.

2 out of 5 eggsTERRIBLE Support

Pros: Unit works well on it's own.

Cons: Unbelievably terrible support on their website. Good luck finding the PowerChute software on their website. It is completely useless trying to get anything done there.

Other Thoughts: I am the IT manager for a mid size engineering firm. We have over 100 computers. I will never buy another APC unit. Save yourself the grief and get a CyberPower unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Choice for Demanding Equipment

Pros: plenty of headroom for power-hungry components, bunch of outlets, decent battery life, solid build quality, very easy setup, bright lcd screen

Cons: definitely heavy for its size, faint audible buzz when idle

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit to replace a BR1000G, that couldn't quite meet the demand of my current PC. This new unit has plenty of battery power and 2 additional outlets so the upgrade has been worth it so far, but time will tell how it holds up. It's definitely a bit heavy but nothing out of the ordinary, as UPS are typically pretty beefy with batteries installed.

I've bought many different APC products in the past and will continue to do so until I find reason not to.
