4 out of 5 eggsGreat 'Replacement' UPS

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: LCD Display a HUGE 'improvement'
Having 10 receptacles to work with is nice
'Master' / 'Slave' receptacles always a 'PLUS'
Being able to EASILY mute the audible alarms . . . THANK YOU!!!

Cons: NO 'software' compatible with ANY iMac, especially OS X version 10.11.4???
Hello, 21st CENTURY!!!

Other Thoughts: This unit replaces an APC Back-UPS ES650, that finally 'died' after 5+ years of reliable service.

YES . . . a fairly sizable 'step-up'. But, for the PRICE?? Could not refuse to go this route. The LCD display is just sooooo nice!!! And, the ease with which the AUDIBLE ALARM can be 'muted' . . . a true blessing. Having ten (10) receptacles to work with, including the 'Master' / 'Slave' is great. And, having 'SURGE ONLY' plug-ins for 'Slave' configuration is a highlight, as well. ONLY 'downfall' . . . APC as well as 'others' STILL seem to willingly neglect those of 'US' with "R-E-A-L" computers. The industry-wide ignorance of still NOT putting out a software disc that works with APPLE iMac??? OS X ? El Capitan version 10.11.4??? C'mon, 'boys' and 'girls'!!! It IS the 21st CENTURY . . . Have 'THEY' even considered the increase in SALES REVENUE that could be realized???

Just got this unit . . .
THIS accounts for the 4 'EGG' rating. With time, barring any 'weirdness' of any kind, it is very possible ('probable') that I would up the rating to 5 'EGGS', without question.

Between the product, the PRICE an the 'service' afforded me by NewEgg . . .
I am 'tickled', so far!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Since 2011

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Bought in May 2011. Use daily for main PC (750 w PSU, 125W CPU, two - four HDDs, and two big power hungry GPUs). The cable modem and router are run off of this PSU. Also has monitor (22" SyncMaster) and at various times a small atom machine (surge-only).

I have had no issues and the controls are fine. The annoying alarm was easy enough to permanently set to off. Despite my eco-unfriendly main rig's power consumption, I have plenty of time to safely shut down during power failures.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I don't have it tied to any of the PCs via USB. The last time I did that was with a previous UPS and the software was a resource-hog so I can't review that for this one.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: none thus far

Cons: DOA - gave a F04 error after the initial boot up. Newgg sent the rma label quickly, however it is sent to california and tested before replacement which is crazy for a one day old purchase. It looked fine from shipping. It had the QC test print out on the side but basically had a catastrophic internal failure.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for taking the time to review the BR1300G. We are very sorry for the trouble you encountered with this unit. If you require further assistance with this unit, please contact us at esupport@apc.com. We would be happy to assist you with any trouble you may be having with this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsAPC BR1300G

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: I bought this for my gaming PC but I think it might have been overkill. Despite running a 750Watt PSU this back-up never seems to even reach half power, even with two monitors drawing from it.

There is not a whole lot to say; it does what it is supposed to and setup is painless.

Cons: This battery back-up (and I would suspect most or all of them, but I can't be sure) does not play nice with hybrid-sleep on computers.

What is hybrid-sleep? It's something Windows 8+ uses when you shut down your desktop to make your computer start up faster, involving writing a save-state of the kernal to your hard disk and keeping the RAM on at very low power.

Anyway, it seems that when my computer is in hybrid-sleep mode and there is a power fluctuation, for whatever reason, my computer would turn itself on. I came home to it being on for several hours on a few occasions, with no indication of why. After I turned off hybrid-sleep it cleared up.

Keep this in mind if you are on a Widows 8+ machine, which defaults to hybrid-sleep when you hit shut-down.

Other Thoughts: If you are using an SSD like me you shouldn't be using hybrid-sleep anyway, so I did not take any eggs off.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Has ground detection to make sure everything is properly grounded. Has a great warranty and worth the money. Had no issues with setup and had two power outages within a month and it worked flawlessly both times.

Cons: Doesn't generate electricity.

5 out of 5 eggsHow To Protect Your Tech Investment: For Dummies

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Hovers under 60% load + 18 minutes battery runtime with full system and lots of peripherals plugged in. Want more than 18 minutes? Spend more money on a model with a bigger battery. PowerChute Personal Edition has come a long way and is just as versatile as Business Edition minus multiple client support.

Cons: Does not come with feet to ensure vertical standup. Stands up just fine, feet would have been a plus nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: Asus Sabertooth 990FX, AMD FX 8370, 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 1866, 2x Radeon HD 6850 (Crossfire), 3x 7200 RPM HDD, 1x SSD, 2x ODD, 750w 80PLUS Gold PSU, 2x AOC q2963Pm

2 out of 5 eggsOffgas burnt plastic odor

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Protects against surges and outages.

Cons: Unit has lot of plastic in it, and as soon as it warmed up, it filled the room with noxious burnt plastic odor. Smell did not dissipate after several weeks. APC sent a replacement which was also a bit smelly, but better. I had to pay the return shipping.

Other Thoughts: Next time I'll look at CyperPower. APC is slipping with this cheap plastic.

2 out of 5 eggsSeamingly solid, but maybe not

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: 3 BR1500 XS units bought 3 years ago. 2 still standing. 1 was replaced under warranty with a BR1500 XR (better unit). Apparently there are problems with the XS units. They tend to fail without remedy but haven't harmed any hardware connected.

Cons: 3 BR1500 XS units bought 3 years ago. 2 still standing. 1 was replaced under warranty with a BR1500 XR (better unit). Apparently there are problems with the XS units. They tend to fail without remedy but haven't harmed any hardware connected.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: I've been using APC UPS's for the better part of 5 years without any real major issues with the units themselves. I have had a nearly flawless experience with APC and I continue to use these UPS in both my home and work enviornments.

Currently, I have connected: Gaming rig, mini-ITX NAS/media server, 3 monitors, switch, Verizon router, speakers, laptop dockingstation, and my old legacy AMD dualcore PC. With the gaming rig on full blast and NAS (with monitors and peripherals), I've got about a 35-40% load on the unit. I suspect I could run ALL of the connected devices on it simultaneously and still not be near 80-90% load.

I have the USB cable from the UPS connected to my NAS and Server 2012 recognizes that it is connected to an UPS (shows battery fully charged).

Overall, this is an excellent buy for the price. It is also expandable with another battery pack to double the standby power availability.

Cons: PowerChute is an absolutely atrocious piece of software. Why does this STILL require .NET 2.x? Seems like it hasn't been updated in YEARS. Come on APC....you guys need to match the excellent hardware design with some quality software. This is my only complaint.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend getting the additional battery pack to double your standby life.

5 out of 5 eggsEvery I expected and more!

This review is from: APC BR1300G Back-UPS Pro 1300 VA 10-outlet Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Pros: Slim
Sturdy
Easy to understand and use
Many plug options

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you have a serious gaming rig like I do this is a must. The power in my house is not able to keep up with the demands of my computer and it's 1500 watt power supply. I tried 2 different APC UPS's before this one and they could not handle the load of my PC. They would shut off and my comp would turn of in 32
