1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, random failures

Pros: Looks nice, comes with software, has useful info on the display. I like the wattage consumption readout.

Cons: I own two recent-model APCs, this one and a 700. Both of them have occasionally begun emitting double-beeps at ~2-second intervals. APC's tech support couldn't tell me what this signified, but it appears to be the dreaded Internal Fault.

These episodes occur at random and can result in the unit eventually dropping power to whatever you've got plugged in. When the UPS is doing this stunt, Windows was showing it on AC power, charging, but the battery level was going *down!* Unplugging it in this condition results in a non-stop alarm and error code F05, along with the loss of power to my equipment. Wait, what's "UPS" stand for, again?

APC's tech support thinks this has something to do with bad electrical contact between the batteries and the unit.

Other Thoughts: This is a sad story to be writing about APC, their stuff is usually reliable.

2 out of 5 eggsFailure of APC BackUps

Pros: Worked Great for 2 mo, 10 days, then says "Internal Fault",
now got to go thru APC for warranty replacement.
Not a happy camper.
Ric Harris

Cons: Internal Fault, some malfunction inside unit.

1 out of 5 eggsI learned a lesson

Pros: It worked well for one month.

Cons: I needed this to last for years and now it's only a boat anchor.

Other Thoughts: Buying UPSs online is risky. A local purchase would be easy to return. I can't get an RMA so now I'll have to deal with APC. The shipping costs could equal a significant part of the purchase price.

5 out of 5 eggsAttractive, Great Wattage Level, USB Connectivity, Reliable

Pros: * Attractive Front LCD Display (Optionally Persistent - Great for nerds).
* Great Wattage for General Workstation/HTPC Support.
* USB Connectivity for Unattended Shutdown.
* Fairly Compact Form Factor.

Cons: After about 24 hours, both of the units I purchased triggered an audible alarm that I was forced to mute. This appeared to happen when the battery was ~75% charged. After restarting the units and allowing them to reach full charge, the audible alarms stopped and haven't been an issue since.

Other Thoughts: Excellent price for a brand-name 600W UPS. I purchased two of these 600W APCs (total of 3 APC UPSs in my household); one for my workstation and the other for my HTPC setup. Reliable brand; my other APC UPS has been supporting a series of home utility and media servers for at least 3 years.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 36 hours

Pros: It matches the case? Mute button silences the constant errors?

Cons: After 36 hours it started beeping non stop. The display itself doesn't even acknowledge anything is wrong, no errors at all. PowerShute software says "internal battery fault"

As per the warranty, I have to wait till Monday and then ship it at my cost back to them to receive a refurbished model. Forget about getting a person on the phone, even their online chat service is business hours only.

Other Thoughts: I thought I was saving myself hassle by going with APC. Next time I'll buy the cheapest one I can find, since even the "good" brand is garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsAttractive design

Pros: I never knew that a UPS could be attractive, but the BX1000G manages to do that. The front LED gives a lot of useful information that would otherwise require accessing the software. And I like the two surge-protected outlets controlled by the master outlet, for turning off a monitor or printer when the PC on the master goes into standby or is turned off.

This also has a nice feature called Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), which can correct for under-voltages without invoking the battery at all, thereby extending battery life for when it is needed. I don't recall seeing it on the earlier models. There are various other niceties not mentioned in the description that go beyond the lower-level models.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I don't know what the long-term reliability will be, but I have two Back-UPS ES 750s, and they have been reliable for from 1 to 3 years. And I have had a couple of earlier APC models too that lasted as long as they should have.

But technology progresses, and I now need the ones that can shut down a PC via the USB port, to prevent data loss. I run a couple of PCs that use RAMDisks to store data, and can't afford to have uncontrolled shutdowns.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for small business/home use

Pros: LCD is nice, allowing the techy part of me to see how things are going. Other than that, its just a battery. When power goes out, it shuts your device down (if its lucky to be the host)

Cons: I just wish there was a way for more than 1 device to be plugged in. I know you can purchase software but it would be easier for smaller business to have an option for 2/3 usb connections to a single battery (ex: at a recent job, they branch as an HP ML310 server and a WD DX4000. Each have a dedicated battery as it was easier for the none tech people there to manage.

Other Thoughts: VERY inexpensive for an APC @ 600watts. Can even manage to power down those BIG BOY 1000watt PSUs (which most of the time your not pulling down 1000watts) as I tested with my home rig.

Thinking about getting 1 more to power my Fios router & Wifi hot spot. Incase of power outage, i'll still have my Asus Prime to keep me entertained and the house phone running.

as always, feel free to gmail my nickname with questions or comments

5 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: worked immediately out of the box to help fight today's blackout insanity in my neighborhood. contrary to some assertions in reviews at other stores, it didn't need 24 or 48 hours of precharging before use.

it did not smoke, did not display an error code. plugged in a router, cablemodem, phone and laptop, they powered up (or for the laptop, started charging the battery), and i got back to a conference call and being productive. 'nuff said.

Cons: a bit pricey...felt like i'm paying for the APC name.

Other Thoughts: full disclosure: i was in a hurry today and didn't get this from newegg. normally i would have.

5 out of 5 eggsworking as expected

Pros: bought two of these for home use. they have been working fine for about a month with no issues. the diagnostics on both UPS's have indicated 5 power issues, probably brown outs or spikes. nice display and interface.

Cons: gave off a slight smell for the first week
