5 out of 5 eggsCyberPower 1500

This review is from: CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Very easy to set up. Within a few minutes I had everything I intended to plug into protected.
LCD display is convenient and provides a fair amount of information about what is going on with the power into and out of the UPS.
Desktop app for Windows is simple, but informative as well. It allows you to choose various information to display and track.
Desktop app will make sure that your PC shuts down safely before the UPS runs out so you don't lose critical data.
Small and easy to place.

Cons: None that I would consider mentioning.

Other Thoughts: For the price and quality, this is a great purchase. The protection it provides is well worth the investment.

2 out of 5 eggsFries Active PFC PSUs

This review is from: CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Cheapish for a "Modified" Sine Wave PFC

Cons: Rolling the dice when using with Active PFC PSU

Other Thoughts: Do you feel lucky, punk?

My Seasonic M12 II 650W Evo Edition, which I got on sale here at New Egg, wasn't. As long as the computer was sleeping, power (to the UPS) could be lost/regained, and nothing fried. But, the first time the UPS lost power while computer was actually running: instadeath. My other Cyberpower UPS, which does have true sine wave, did NOT kill its associated computer's PSU.

Awaiting a new PSU to survey damage (hope nothing else fried).

Need a warning sticker on these "Modified" Sine Wave PSUs: NOT for use with Computers

(although I wouldn't trust it with my TiVo, either)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. CyberPower’s Active PFC Adaptive Sinewave technology is the first to solve the critical compatibility issues of non-Sinewave UPS products working with computing systems using Active PFC power supplies (ENERGY STAR 5.0). CyberPower’s innovative Adaptive Sinewave UPS technology is an affordable solution that ensures equipment utilizing Active PFC power supplies do not unexpectedly shutdown or experience harmful stress when switching from AC power to UPS battery power.
The new CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD, with Adaptive SinewaveTM technology, safeguards mid to high-end computer systems that use conventional and Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies. Its automatic voltage regulation (AVR) topology delivers clean and consistent AC power, protecting connected equipment and preventing costly business interruptions.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems right out of the box

This review is from: CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Shipping was phenomenally fast

Cons: Straight out of the box it doesn't work. I plugged it in as soon as I got home today. Looks like it may have had a bit of a rough shipment, the plastic chassis is chipped and the 'faulty wiring' light is pushed into the case. However, the real issue is that it won't charge, or it won't admit to charging. If I turn it on not plugged in to power, it works fine and powers my computer, if I plug it into my step down converter/voltage regulator (local voltage is a very unreliable 220, hence needing a ups in the first place), it flips out - constant beeping, the display selection button doesn't work, and no power is provided to the outputs. Plugging it in after I've turned on the unit registers that there is power coming in, though at wildly fluctuating voltage, when the regulator says that it's stable (and this is on several regulators, I have them throughout the house because of the bad local power). The 'faulty wiring' light, once I found it fallen back into the case itself, is glowing red, though I've had the electricians check the wiring several times at my house, and the power has been stable since I got home. At 26 pounds it will be a pain to ship back so I may see if one of the local electricians has any idea. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Suggestions?

3 out of 5 eggsSoftware sucks

This review is from: CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: Hardware seems good. So far its been dependable and looks nice. Puts out good power and runs everything I need. LCD display tells you everything you need to know without having to use software to log in.

Cons: Software does not install on XP. Tried it on Win7 64bit and I could not adjust voltage settings. Page was there but settings weren't. Other pages settings were available and could be adjusted, but not voltage. Without voltage adjustment software really not needed as display gives same info as software. Voltage adjustment is really the most important use for the software for me.

Other Thoughts: I have a few UPS's from APC. They work great and software installs and works as expected. This is my first CyberPower unit and probably my last. Software just doesn't work right. If you don't need the software this is probably a good unit. If you just plan on plugging it in and using it as is then it seems very good.
But if, like me, you need to use the software because you need to adjust the settings then stay away from CyberPower.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a battery! wow!

This review is from: CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: It holds electrical charge and stuff.

The display is so geek-prime. Must love it. Can view all sorts of electrical useless info about your socket.

It is Silent. If it makes beeps, you can stop them. (power outs)
It switches fast.
Let's hope it has a real sine wave, probably does.
It is small for its storage capacity.
Software is pretty decent, standard sort of thing. works.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: APC was a non-pure sine wave in models of similar price range. They did the following damage:
Burned out a 180 dollar silent Silverstone PSU
Burned out one of its own sockets on the surege/battery permanently. how? who knows. APC is garbage.

I have gone through a bunch of UPS'

Cyberpower is nice and if it is a true sine wave, this is a permanent choice. Go with it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your review on the CP1500AVRLCD. This particular UPS does not have true sine wave, it features a simulated sine wave. If you are looking for a UPS with sine wave, please see CyberPower's CP1500PFCLCD. CyberPower’s new Active PFC Adaptive Sinewave technology is the first to solve the critical compatibility issues of non-Sinewave UPS products working with computing systems using Active PFC power supplies (ENERGY STAR 5.0). Active PFC Sinwave is 100% true sine wave. The CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD, with Adaptive SinewaveTM technology, safeguards mid to high-end computer systems that use conventional and Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies.
