CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6/RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB & Serial Communication Ports — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

  • Intuitive dashboard design
  • Real-time monitoring of battery backup status
  • Self-testing functionality
  • Adjustable high/low voltage warnings
  • Safe auto shutdown
  • Configurable system notifications

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a battery! wow!

Pros: It holds electrical charge and stuff.

The display is so geek-prime. Must love it. Can view all sorts of electrical useless info about your socket.

It is Silent. If it makes beeps, you can stop them. (power outs)
It switches fast.
Let's hope it has a real sine wave, probably does.
It is small for its storage capacity.
Software is pretty decent, standard sort of thing. works.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: APC was a non-pure sine wave in models of similar price range. They did the following damage:
Burned out a 180 dollar silent Silverstone PSU
Burned out one of its own sockets on the surege/battery permanently. how? who knows. APC is garbage.

I have gone through a bunch of UPS'

Cyberpower is nice and if it is a true sine wave, this is a permanent choice. Go with it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your review on the CP1500AVRLCD. This particular UPS does not have true sine wave, it features a simulated sine wave. If you are looking for a UPS with sine wave, please see CyberPower's CP1500PFCLCD. CyberPower’s new Active PFC Adaptive Sinewave technology is the first to solve the critical compatibility issues of non-Sinewave UPS products working with computing systems using Active PFC power supplies (ENERGY STAR 5.0). Active PFC Sinwave is 100% true sine wave. The CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD, with Adaptive SinewaveTM technology, safeguards mid to high-end computer systems that use conventional and Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies.

The CyberPower web site ( has a "UPS Selector Guide" which can help guide you to the correct models that match your needs, such as sine wave. Additional the CyberPower Tech Support Team can also help - please call us at 877-297-6937 (M -F, 8am - 5pm CST), or via email at

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is supposed to do

Pros: I have had 2 of these for about a year now. They have saved my server pc from improper shutdowns due to quick power outages and longer power outages. The software works well and will do a proper shutdown if the ups has been running on battery for a designated amount of time.

Cons: none, good price and does what it is supposed to do.

4 out of 5 eggsGood UPS NewEgg not so much

Pros: Price and quality

Cons: NewEgg return system

Other Thoughts: Have 1 of these already and bought a 2nd when another UPS failed. NewEgg shipped the wrong UPS and it looked as if it had been RMA'd once already. Called for replacement and was told it would be cross shipped. A week later and I am still without any UPS. NewEgg now says replacement will be 3 to 5 days after my return is received. As a loyal NewEgg buyer I hate they are making other online retailers more attractive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS for the last 2+ years and counting!

Pros: LCD display for quick check of status even when not being used with a PC.

LCD display is only lit when you check it so it isn't constantly shining.

Green options that power off secondary devices when the main device is in low power (standby, hibernate) mode.

Cons: Uh, requires you have an available outlet to plug it in? Doesn't come with cake? Seriously though, only minor things I could think of that don't even bother me.

If you'd rather have the LCD constantly on, guess that would be a con as I'm not aware of a way to force it. Could be a plus if it was allowed to be modified via the software. Example, set it so it is always on and maybe cycles through the multiple readouts at X second intervals.

Blue "power on" light may be a bit bright for some.

Other Thoughts: The "PowerPanel Personal Edition" (PPPE) software that is listed (I think included on CD? Can get it from the CyberPower website) for this unit is acceptable although with the majority of users being on Windows PCs they can plug the UPS right in and have Windows interact with it the same as it would on a laptop with a battery. Even Linux has some native support (I'm using Ubuntu 14.04) but I suspect if you're running Linux you're probably also going to be interested in power-user type control. The PPPE software does allow you to see more information in the UPS that the OS itself wouldn't report though. Compared to the Belkin Bulldog software for Windows that had come with the Belkin UPSes I used to love (and are no longer manufactured) the PPPE software is lacking some features. An important one for me was network notification if you were supporting multiple PCs on the single UPS.

That said, the "PowerPanel Business Edition" software (again, available on the CyberPower website) is compatible with this unit. Way overkill for your basic user but very nice for someone who has multiple computers on the one UPS.

Have used 3 of these for 2+ years with zero issues. I read the current "most useful negative review" re: simulated vs pure sine wave, and while I understand the problem it isn't a guaranteed issue. I've recently run a battery test of my CP1500AVRLCD via the 2 PCs attached to it and neither had a problem. I don't recall if at the time both PCs had Corsair CX430 or CS450M PSUs, but either way both PSU models are Active PFC and did not have an issue. Will test again later though as I just learned of the potential issue today and want to ensure I'm OK with this UPS and the CS450Ms.

4 out of 5 eggsWTH UPS...

Pros: Great UPS for my purposes. I have had 2 of these operational for over a year. Just bought two more. Solid performers.

Cons: Shipping, what the he**?!?! Does UPS just love kicking these stupid heavy boxes all over the loading docks?

The second set arrived in abysmal condition. Packing foam all shredded and the boxes double and triple clear taped like they'd fallen off the truck, been backed over and taped back together.

One faceplate had busted the single screw holding it on but i managed to get it back together. There was some other damage to the unit casing, hopefully it's just cosmetic.

Other Thoughts: Both units fired up when i plugged them in but i'm debating if i should RMA the one with visible damage.

The first set of these came packed in a single box to increase the durability and force some care to be taken with the weighty package.

UPS is absolutely idiotic. Makes me think i should just shop locally and pay the tax to avoid the RMA costs.

I love shopping Newegg but the condition of the package on arrival is a serious concern with electronics.
