CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6/RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB & Serial Communication Ports — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

GreenPower UPS
Intelligent LCD Diagnostic Display: The innovative front panel LCD can be used to display detailed information on the UPS status and current power conditions. The LCD displays 11 different diagnostics: Input voltage level, Output voltage level, Automatic voltage regulator, Runtime estimate, Load level, Power frequency, On battery, Overload, Fault, Battery capacity, and Silent mode.
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) - Incoming AC power is electronically regulated for dips and spikes AVR takes this irregular AC power and converts it into a consistent Sinewave so sensitive electronic equipment can achieve its optimal performance.
EMI/RFI - Provides shielding against electromagnetic interference & radio frequency signals. Most commonly, this is used to prevent line noise or “humming” that occurs over telephone lines or stereo electronics.
Transformer-spaced Outlets - Widely spaced outlets allow you to conveniently add large transformer-based plugs without compromising the utility of other outlets.
USB Connectivity - HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
PowerPanel PE ™ Smart Management Software – In event of a power outage, PowerPanel PE will not only save your open files and will also “Hibernate” your PC to increase the run-time on the UPS unit. PowerPanel is quickly and easily installed on any Windows-based PC and is designed to utilize minimal system resources. Diagnostic screens give immediate visuals of the UPS’s status, and also include the following features: Silent operation mode, configurable system notifications, automatic self tests, adjustable high/low voltage warnings, event/data logging, and scheduled shutdowns.
LED Indicators - LED status lights indicate Power-On and wiring faults.
Audible Alarms - Audible tones identify when the unit is running off battery power, unit overloads and low battery.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Have two towers and monitors + peripherals hooked up to this and don't worry for a minute about power fluctuations or outages. Lots of run time for safe shutdowns in case of an outage.

Cons: None, still going strong after almost 3 years and lots of outages!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS

Pros: Had it's first use within 24 hours of plugging it in. Got it for the living room, have television, PS3, sound bar and Directv box plugged in. We have sketchy power here during wind storms and the first test was yesterday. power dropped and we didn't even notice.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsSeems Very Basic but it Works

Pros: - Compact
- Does its job very well | ...already handled a 141V overvoltage for 8 minutes for both mine and my wifes computer... (I bought two)...
- Price was right and I hope the unit lasts awhile

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Other UPS I have owned required you to plug in the batteries before use this one did not...

new computers take more power so you cannot get away with using a single unit for multiple PC's anymore... but luckily these units are here and they are not as expensive as they used to be...

I know the LCD does not stay lit when the unit is on AC power and that is part of the 'green power' but it would be nice to have the option to override it if one chooses to ... for me I really only need to know when the unit is intervening and doing its job otherwise all good

- batteries are easy to replace on these so when the pack does go least you don't have to replace the whole unit ... My old APC is still working this way though it is 1000VA and uses more power at rest than this little guy ... but hey if it is not broken ... I only replace things when I cannot repair them anymore which is good $$$ savings

5 out of 5 eggsUseful UPS

Pros: Works great, quiet, and protects the equipment plugged into it. With one desktop and monitor plugged into it, it has 37 minutes of runtime without power.

Cons: No real cons to speak of.

Other Thoughts: This is my second CyberPower 900 watt UPS. I bought the first a few years ago because rolling brownouts kept damaging my equipment. After I used this, the problems stopped entirely. When the power fails, it has about seven minutes of battery life with two desktops and monitors, cable modem, and a router all plugged into it. That's more than enough time to save your data and shut down. I purchased a second one for a computer in another room.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome

Pros: Finally don't have to worry about those pesky power outages. Works well. Definitely more than my setup needs, but allows for plenty of time to shutdown the system in case of prolonged power loss.
easy to setup and configure.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I use this little baby for my unsupervised file server. I hardly ever look at it or the server. does what its supposed to and does not complain.

has a nifty monitoring app for Windows.

1 out of 5 eggsBe careful you understand what you;re gettng

Pros: LCD Screen,

Cons: I purchased my CP1500AVRLCD in February and did not experience a power outage until October. It was then that I learned that this unit does NOT work with my computer. This is the message I received from CyberPoser Support

"Most newer computers have power supplies in them that require a UPS with a pure sine wave output. The 1500AVRLCD you have has a simulated sine wave output. You'd need a UPS such as a CP1500PFCLCD."

There is no mention of this warning on printed on the box or in the product description. They refused to help me exchange my UPS for one that suits my needs.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. You are correct that systems using a power supply with Active PFC (including ENERGY STAR 5.0 systems) may experience issues with a non-sine wave UPS. As a result, CyberPower introduced the Adaptive Sinewave UPS line to address these issues. The CP1500PFCLCD w/Pure Sine Wave provides the most cost effective UPS solution for systems using power supplies with Active PFC.

To assist customers with purchasing decisions, CyberPower lists detailed specifications on our website ( where waveform types are listed. As our packaging evolves, we also review the information we place on the box. With Active PFC power supplies becoming more prevalent, we will be reviewing the best way to help customers select the right product for them and addressing it with future packaging as well as on-line information.
