CyberPower CP1500AVRT Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6/RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB Communication Port — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

LED Status Indicators — LED icons on the battery backup unit indicate: Power On, On-Battery, AVR and Overload, as well as Wiring Fault (to warn users of building wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks). When the Wiring Fault icon is lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

4 out of 5 eggsCyberPower UPS CP1500AVRT

Pros: The UPS works awesome and does what it's supposed to do; in the last month or so, I've had several lightning storms where this kicked in and worked beautifully.

Cons: I subtracted an egg based, not on the product which works fine, but on how Newegg shipped it.

If you buy this be aware that it may be shipped in the product packaging alone and that there may be...damage...to the box and the packing materials.

When I received mine, the box looked like it had been kicked in various places and the styrofoam on the inside was mostly broken and in powdery form.

Having said said that, the UPS still worked like a champ, which means the styrofoam did its' job. I'd hate to think how I'd have to ship it back if it didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I recognize that shipping something like this in its' original packaging might be industry standard, but considering how much obvious care and thought goes into how Newegg ships their other computer stuff (at least the stuff I got), how this one got shipped seems just a little...sad.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Kept my computer from losing power during it's first encountered thunderstorm.

Cons: Powerpanel software won't open, but probably because I installed it before connecting the UPS to my computer with the USB cable.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid UPS

Pros: -Good Size
-Works as intended
-Quite

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: I have this UPS powering my TV, receiver, Xbox, computer, and monitor. I've lost power twice in the past year and both times the UPS worked beautifully. I recommended. Just don't overload it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Power went out for the first time today, it kept my router online and my computer on standby for an hour with no problems. The beep it makes when it's using battery power is very tolerable, in the past I've had some UPS that were too loud to be worthwhile. Also the apartment I live in sometimes has power fluctuations, this UPS really smooths things out, no more flickering or dimming when the ac kicks on. During the power outage today my son grabbed our tablet and started watching Netflix.. Back in my day no power meant card games... Overall great UPS no complaints at all!

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsCyberPower UPS

Pros: Works; good monitoring software

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Went with 900 Watts since my power supply is 850 Watts. Probably overkill, but it didn't cost that much more than some of the other models. This one doesn't have the front display panel, but instead comes with software to install a gadget on your screen and a memory resident monitoring program. It's Windows based software, so if I had left Ubuntu on this box like I originally planned, it would have been a problem. I like the monitoring software; it tells me if there have been over or under voltages coming into the house, and allows me to control the UPS without getting down on the floor (which I don't do very well these days). I'd buy another one.
I've got the computer, monitor and external drive plugged into it, and the software tells me I have 40 minutes of runtime available. Also tells me we had an over voltage event of > 140V a while back that lasted for 2 seconds, at which time the UPS switched the computer to battery. All in all, I'm happy.

4 out of 5 eggsGood devices

Pros: Solid. Inexpensive. Durable. I've had 2 of these running since 2007. Rock Solid. Original Batteries. Stil decent run-times.

Cons: not really, but I wish they had network capability.. but didn't expect it at this capacity/price point.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed so far

Pros: High wattage output for home use. Great software utilities, also with Linux support. Long battery runtime. My latest battery test lasted at least 7-8 mins without causing a shutdown even with all these devices drawing load: Linux server, gaming/development machine, 22" high def monitor, external backup drive, DSL modem and network switch. With all those devices on backup power they draw between 300-500 Watts (depending on what I'm doing), and I can keep working mostly uninterrupted for at least 5 minutes in the event of a surge or blackout.

I was able to install their powerpanel "business edition" software on my headless Linux server (Ubuntu 12.04), which uses a gui OR text-based installer and a web interface for remote management. Very slick web interface with diagnostic information, event handling (auto-shutdown, including coordinated multi-computer shutdowns).

Received good, timely support from their customer service.

Cons: The only gotcha I ran into so far is an annoying "feature" that only appears if you haven't installed the powerpanel software yet. If you connect to the UPS with serial/usb, but you haven't yet installed the software, the UPS can (and probably will) switch off randomly when you least expect it, cutting power instantly to all connected devices.

On the plus side, customer support was very helpful, and explained that this was by design (although I'm not sure I understand why you would want it to do this). This problem goes away completely once you install the software, so it's not that big of a deal. Just beware that you should probably not have the server on which you're installing the software connected to the UPS until AFTER you install the software.

Other Thoughts: Overall very impressed so far. It does everything I wanted in a UPS. I was afraid at first that I would draw too much load with all my devices connected, but even with all my stuff drawing load I'm only using 30-40% of the 900W capacity.
