CyberPower CP600LCD Standby UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to surges and uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

Versatile Design — Compact unit stands upright, lies flat or hangs on a wall.

USB Communication Port — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

Features

Features
Intelligent LCD Diagnostic Display: The innovative front panel LCD can be used to display detailed information on the UPS status and current power conditions. The LCD displays 10 different diagnostics: Input Voltage Level, Output Voltage Level, Battery Capacity, Runtime, Load Level, Output Power Frequency, On Battery, Overload, Wiring Fault, and Silent Mode.
EMI/RFI - Provides shielding against electromagnetic interference & radio frequency signals. Most commonly, this is used to prevent line noise or "humming" that occurs over telephone lines or stereo electronics.
Transformer-spaced Outlets - Widely spaced outlets allow you to conveniently add large transformer-based plugs without compromising the utility of other outlets.
USB Connectivity - HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
PowerPanel PE Smart Management Software - In event of a power outage, PowerPanel PE will not only save your open files and will also "Hibernate" your PC to increase the run-time on the UPS unit. PowerPanel is quickly and easily installed on any Windows-based PC and is designed to utilize minimal system resources. Diagnostic screens give immediate visuals of the UPS's status, and also include the following features: Silent operation mode, configurable system notifications, automatic self tests, adjustable high/low voltage warnings, event/data logging, and scheduled shutdowns.
LED Indicators - LED status lights indicate Power-On and wiring faults.
Audible Alarms - Audible tones identify when the unit is running off battery power, unit overloads and low battery.
Convenient Mounting - Multiple mounting options: horizontal, vertical, cabinet, and wall.
Resettable Circuit Breaker - Convenient unit reset switch in case of an overload.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Charge lasts, accompanying software works

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Every time the power has gone out (which is anywhere from 2-5 times per week) this thing has kicked in and worked flawlessly. LED display is great. I could not be happier.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job well

Pros: The monitoring software included is nice and lightweight, not a bulky piece of bloatware. All I really can think of to say is that it does what it says and does a really good job.

Cons: None that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job, does it well.

Pros: One year out, and it still works as it should. I test it every so often with my ESXi 5.1 VM, and my various switches, and routers, and such, and it performs a clean shutdown every single time... with runtime to spare. This UPS runs at a constant 40-55% load.

Cons: However useful and functional the UPS may be, it's always let down by the software. Especially the terrible UI. Business, Personal, or VM appliance version. Doesn't matter.

Other Thoughts: It's a good buy for the price. Still have to spend a bit more money for something more feature-filled and robust, but for a-step-above-normal-home-use, it works.

1 out of 5 eggsKeep searching

Pros: Lovely layout & features for connecting to a pc to have constant on-screen displayed info or more details when accessing an application that comes with the product.

Cons: Didn't do a thing to protect my system. We had an ice storm recently and the power cut out twice. The UPS was on at the time but my pc was turned off & still connected to a battery/surge outlet. The power went out overnight and when the morning came I noticed the UPS was off and would not turn back on. The surge-only outlets still provide power but the unit is fried. I checked to see if my computer was affected and it was. It failed to protect my $2000 machine from damage. It's PSU has been fried as well with who knows what else also being affected internally. To make matters worse their support is terrible. Simple a waste of money, purchase an APC or don't buy one at all.

3 out of 5 eggsSine wave in highlights got me

Pros: Will trust it to keep things other than my PC up.

Cons: This is not Active PFC compatible. If you have an Active PFC PSU like many of the CORSAIR series, your computer will reboot if it receives a power spike or voltage drop. (confirmed by support)
Have to buy a pure sine wave UPS now......

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your review and comments. You are correct that systems using a power supply with Active PFC (including ENERGY STAR 5.0 systems) may experience issues with a non-sine wave UPS. As a result, CyberPower introduced the PFC Sinewave UPS series to address these issues. These models offer pure sine wave and are the most cost effective UPS solution for systems using power supplies with Active PFC. Take a look at CyberPower models CP850PFCLCD or CP1500PFCLCD. Newegg and the CyberPower web site (cpsww.com) offer a CyberPower UPS Selector Guide which will help guide you to the correct models that match your needs.

4 out of 5 eggsI was worried at first

Pros: I am using this device for a small linux home server, router, and modem.

When I got my unit it didn't provide power when it was plugged in, but as soon as I unplugged it from the wall, it would power up the devices. Since I had just purchased it I had to fillout the warrenty and then contact the manufacturer. I noticed that they didn't have phone support for when I was off work. So I decided to go the email route.

I was worried I was going to enter customer support hell, but to my surprise they actually sent my emails to the same person each time, and they didn't use those useless pre-written reponses. They asked a few questions and after a few responses, they sent me at their cost a shipping label so I could exchange it.

The unit is under about 30% load, I was worried at first that I may not have sized it to be large enough.*

+excelent customer service
+LCD display
+low price
+linux support
+ works great with simple desktops and small home servers*
+ network cable surge protector

*This unit is not for gaming rigs! They are way more power hungry and need a larger unit.

Cons: - first device didn't work

Other Thoughts: No regrets purchasing from them, but it is annoying going through the process of replacing a defective device.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Due to increase of power failures a customer of mine wanted a UPS unit for his server. I recommended a different brand with a bigger battery (and more expensive) but he wanted to save a few dollars.

So far everything appears to be working. Battery was already connected and ready to be charged. Installed the software and connected the USB cord, it reads that the unit is at half capacity and will provide ~20 minutes of run time (though it would drop down to 10 minutes every so often.

Small server, 20" LCD monitor, DSL modem, and router are plugged in.

Cons: The packaging lists Windows XP as the recommended OS, but has a Vista sticker on the front. Wondering how old this thing really is.

Other Thoughts: A great deal for home users, but I don't feel confident using it for a business. But my job is to make recommendations, and work with anything my customer's want.
