3 out of 5 eggsFine for the price

Pros: Cheap, somewhat compact (compared to a unit where the inverter circuitry is housed in a separate box and there is a cord to the 12V DC), build quality is average.

Cons: Fan is really loud. If you're on a plane, you may not hear it at all. If you're in a car however, it's fairly easy to hear it. If I had to guess the manufacturer is using a poor quality fan and running it as fast as possible.

Other Thoughts: For the price it makes a good emergency adapter. Regarding the other reviewer who mentions that the ground is not a ground and the neutral can be hot, they are right. However, this is not the kind of adapter that you should be using to power an entire household circuit. Also, keep in mind that the adapter has +12V, and -12V ("vehicle" ground) available to it. In theory, it is entirely unable to provide ground to the 110V side without connecting to the -12V, which I am sure provides some rather interesting design constraints, electrically speaking. For $33, the lack of a ground is not a problem, I am not running a table saw off of this thing.

Most laptop power supplies only really use hot and neutral, ground is usually included in the design because of the industry standard power cord that include it, but generally it is not useful for anything. I'm comfortable running my laptops with this adapter for short spans of time.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Design

Pros: It works. For powering inexpensive items which are not too important to you, this inverter unit is fine. Consider the low cost.

Cons: Electrically, this unit is a very poor design. I would not recommend this unit for powering a laptop or similar sensitive and expensive component.

The problem with this unit is that neither the hot or the neutral plug on the unit are referenced to ground. In other words, the neutral actually has a potential of 60v above ground. This can lead to some shocking situations. The ground leg of the inverter is just a dummy hole -- there is no actual ground.

In layman's terms, the electrical design of this unit is very poor and would never achieve household electrical standards. I can't figure out how they are allowed to manufacture and sell this unit especially when they advertise it for use with laptops.

Other Thoughts: Get a better unit. This this costs almost nothing for a reason. If you are looking to power your electric shaver or some other rudimentary electro-mechanical device, this unit is fine. But for sensetive electronics, this is not the inverter for you.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor...

Pros: Its fine when it works

Cons: -Fan is way loud
-Swivel hinge is poor. To much weight with large head a cord. Wont even keep the head up without a cord.
-Blew my cars fuse in 15 minutes

Other Thoughts: Bought this at Wally World. Poor quality. Would not recommend to anyone.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: The converter plugs directly into outlet but is not staying there to well (maybe because its weight is directly there). Fun is loud. No question about. I saw manufacturer comment about it but that is incorrect. My friend had exactly same model like me and both were working loud. Anyway it stopped working one day after few months of very light occasional usage. I can smell burn odor from inside. My previous model CPS-140BI lasted only one year as well before burned out. I don’t recommend this product.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud!

Pros: It plugs into the cigarette lighter but the hinge is pretty weak. You can swivel it around but ti wont stay put. But - it does seem to work.

Cons: Fan is really loud.

Other Thoughts: I actually bought this unit locally and I'm going to return it and buy one from NewEgg. The seelction is pretty good here. The fan on this unit is just too darn loud, and since the outlet is connected directly to the cigarette lighter adapter you cant move it to get it away from you, so you get to HEAR IT LOUD AND CLEAR. If you like the CAPS shouting then this unit is for you.

Manufacturer Response:
