CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6/RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB & Serial Communication Ports — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

  • Intuitive dashboard design

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent UPS

Pros: It has all the information at your fingertips to know how it is loaded, battery condition, input and output voltages, etc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great unit. I purchase one a year ago and have had great service with it. So good, in fact, I purchased another one yesterday.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent UPS

Pros: Does what it is supposed to at a good price.

Cons: The stupid infernal beeping. It isn't free?

Other Thoughts: I really don't understand the beeping. Let's use common sense here. The LCD comes on when the unit takes over on power failure. Your lights will be out. The unit makes some noise when it's in battery power mode. Why does it need a stupid annoying beeping sound? If they feel the overwhelming need to include the stupid beeping sound, then at least add a hardware switch to disable it. I have 2 UPS units, and the first thing I did to both of them was crack them open and rip off the speaker and toss it.

Will I still buy CP products? Sure, but it would be nice not to have to factor in cracking open a brand new product to rip out a perfectly good component so I can stand to use it. Mmmkay?

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments and suggestions regarding CyberPower’s CP1000AVRLCD. To silence the alarm without going into the software - push the middle of the toggle bar located directly under the LCD screen. Hold the toggle bar for 5 seconds and an icon will appear of a speaker symbol with a line thru it. The alarm will be silenced until the battery reaches low capacity. The user manual included with the UPS has details regarding the usage of the LCD display. If you no longer have the manual, it can be downloaded at our our web site ( under the CP1000AVRLCD's "Resources" tab.

The LCD diagnostics display allows the user to view the real-time system vitals such as battery capacity, current draw, estimated runtime, voltage input/output, output frequency, output consumption and more. If you need any help with any of this or have any additional questions please contact CyberPower Customer Support Team at 877-297-6937, or, Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 5 pm (CST), so that we can immediately act to completely address your issue and ensure your total satisfaction.

5 out of 5 eggsActive PFC

Pros: nice LCD which goes to sleep, works with my Corsair 675 Watt, Active PFC power supply, plenty of connections.

Cons: none, looked for a UPS that would work with Active PFC power suppley. most don't but CyberPower UPS for the most part do...APC requires the expensive SmartUPS series to do the same thing.

Other Thoughts: My son rig:
Nvidia GTX560
Asus MB
AMD FX 4300 quad core OC to 4.4
8GB Crucial DD3 1600 ram..
1 TB seagate HD
Corsair 675 Watt Active PFC power supply..

4 out of 5 eggsGood UPS overall

Pros: This is a really good and solid UPS with a great LCD display, all I can do is recommend this unit to everyone.

Cons: If you are using this unit for a computer, there is no mention when you buy it that it is not compatible with the newest power supplies with Active PFC, nor warn you of the consequences running a computer with this kind of power supply with such a unit. I remove 1 egg for the missing information.

2 out of 5 eggsUnit Failed after 4 months

Pros: Small Footprint

Cons: Unit circuit board failed after only 4 months. Random shut downs, completely shutting down and restarting computer system. Cyber Power requires that you pay for shipping to return a warranty item. As this is a very heavy item, shipping can be spendy.

Other Thoughts: Cyber Power should pay for shipping on faulty equipment. 4 week turn around is a bit excessive.

5 out of 5 eggsAll I could want ...

Pros: Love all the plugs on it.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I was just about to re-wire my entire computer area as it was just a mess. Since I do wiring and computers, I was going to make everything custom ... but then my APC died and I bought this one (CyberPower is what we use on the servers at work ... and IT loves em). With all the plugs, I just connected multi-outlet strips (backed up strips I painted red) to each plug (since nothing really takes a lot of current anymore) and now I have a very neat computer area.

5 out of 5 eggsSaved My computer

Pros: Looks Great-
Plenty of sockets to connect my equipment-
saved my computer from a lightning strike across the street, (the strike blew up the water main and was shooting water 30 feet in the air) - after the storm, I was unable to turn the unit on, it would power up for a second then shut off. After an internal inspection, I saw that several of the resistors had blown on the main board. -

all of my equipment that was plugged into this UPS was saved.

I am very happy that I purchased this with my computer rebuild, if I had not, I would likely have lost my new computer to this storm.

I will be ordering another to replace this one.

Cons: none- worked perfectly.

Other Thoughts: would have been nice if there had been a fuse or something that could have been replaced as opposed to the board frying and me needing to get a replacement unit, but oh well... best $$ I ever spent. saved my new computer!

5 out of 5 eggsEarly review, will update later

Pros: Small for the capacity. Easy to set up, as in you don't have to connect the battery manually. Has a serial port connection as well as USB, so if I decide to move this thing to back up something running *nix later I know I'll be able to get it working, one way or the other.

Display on the front is bright and easy to read, has some pretty good info on it to boot. It's really cool to see a UPS that will tell you the current power input AND output, how many watts your using, what your expected battery time will be should the power go out, and so on. My old APC sure as hell won't do that. The included software shows all the same information too, which is also great to have.

Probably the feature I'm happiest about: you can turn off the annoying beeping on power loss, though you have to install the software to do it. I CANNOT overstate how much I was looking for that feature. I actually clipped the tone generator wires on my old APC backup unit, I was that desperate for a way to disable the annoying alarm. And really, I'm pretty sure I can figure out when the freakin' power goes out without being beeped to death.

Unexpected bonus: comes with included coax (cable), RJ-11 (single-line phone), and USB A-to-B cables. Good quality ones too.

Cons: The outlets are all crammed together on the smallest side, and configured in a way that makes it hard to get more than one power brick attached. Not a huge problem - not even that hard to fix, just some 6-inch extensions and call it done - but it's a rather curious design choice. A waste of surface area, if nothing else.

The included software is a bit... odd. It's limited in configuring actions on power loss for one: either you turn it off after X minutes of running (where X is no greater than 5), or turn it off when there's only Y minutes of power left (where Y is no less than 5). There's no option to, say, hibernate instead of shut down. There's no way to make the software wait until there's 2 minutes of battery life left. There's no option to just disable automatic shutdown entirely. I know the time is a big issue for me, since the UPS estimates my system will have all of 7 minutes of runtime at typical load. It doesn't take my computer 5 minutes to shut down, we could cut it a bit closer than that.

Presumably if you have the software installed at all your computer is going to try and automatically shut itself down at some point when there's a loss of power, and you may not want that. I know I don't, so I'll likely be uninstalling it. It's a shame, since I really like the informational displays and the event monitoring (low voltage, etc.).

Other Thoughts: This is just my early review on the thing. I'll update this (if I can) as I use it for longer. I live in the sticks where the power does weird things, so I should be able to give some good feedback after a while.

There are some weird features in the software, like the ability to schedule the power being automatically turned on and off. I cannot think of any situation where anyone would want that short of an epically overbearing parent.

The size on this thing is about the same as my old APC 550 unit. If you turn this one on its side it takes up the same footprint, roughly. Way nicer features though.

The light on the front of this is fairly bright, bright enough it could serve as a night light. I could see that getting old for some people, though in my setup it's not a problem. Masking tape would fix the problem anyway.

My cat usually sniffs the hell out of anything new. He didn't spend hardly any time on the UPS. Not sure what to make of that.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS in normal environment

Pros: Informational display and great integration with my windows based workstations and servers. Configurable run times to save battery and silence mode because you know the power is out thanks. Price is cheaper than replacing other's battery's

Cons: The noise suppression is too good. Can't have this UPS on the same line as my X10 home automation devices. I had a APC 15 year old unit plugged in near my lamp control unit without any issues. Upgraded to the new cyberpower unit and all signaling in that room was dead. Wow that is suppression!

Other Thoughts: I have installed 5 of these UPS units for all my electronics. But only found recently that the X10 will not work on the same power leg. Shame really because I really like these units.
