CyberPower OR2200LCDRM2U Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for servers, telecom equipment, VoIP and internetworking hardware.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for corporate and departmental servers, telecom equipment, VoIP and Internetworking hardware. Safeguards valuable documents, image files and connected equipment from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges, as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6/RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Remote Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Business Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup remotely, when an optional network card is installed, to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB & Serial Communication Ports — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Business Edition Management Software

Features

Features
GreenPower UPS
Intelligent LCD Diagnostic Display: The innovative front panel LCD can be used to display detailed information on the UPS status and current power conditions. The LCD displays 11 different diagnostics: AVR Status, Estimated Runtime, Battery Capacity, Load Level, Input & Output Voltage Level, Output Frequency, On-Battery, Overload, Fault, and Silent Mode.
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) - Incoming AC power is electronically regulated for dips and spikes AVR takes this irregular AC power and converts it into a consistent Sinewave so sensitive electronic equipment can achieve its optimal performance.
EMI/RFI - Provides shielding against electromagnetic interference & radio frequency signals. Most commonly, this is used to prevent line noise or “humming” that occurs over telephone lines or stereo electronics.
Microprocessor-based Digital Control – Digital routing is maintained through a network of integrated circuitry and discrete values are used for internal system processing, which significantly increases efficiency and response of CyberPower UPS’s.
USB Connectivity - HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
PowerPanel Business Edition – Supporting up to 25 UPS’s, the Business Edition also has application/OS shutdown, event logging (power, surge, voltage variations), hibernation mode, internal reports and analysis, and remote management.
LED Indicators - LED status lights indicate Power-On and wiring faults.
Audible Alarms - Audible tones identify when the unit is running off battery power, unit overloads and low battery.
Resettable Circuit Breaker - Convenient unit reset switch in case of an overload.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Inexpensive, nice display.

Cons: Requires Dedicated 20Amp plug and circuit! NOT Pure sine wave. This unit uses Simulated sine wave instead. Failure rate is less than desirable.

Other Thoughts: If you are planning to Power the latest PC Power supply's with this unit, Think again! If your power supply says Active PFC then you need PURE SINE WAVE, not simulated, or your system will not stay running when it switches to battery, making this unit useless to my intended application. :(

1 out of 5 eggsBad quality

Pros: I have been purchasing these for a few years now because the price was better than anyone else and they worked fine.

Cons: Lately the price has gone up and the workmanship down. I just got this one and it was DOA so I opened it up to see if it was fixable. The transformer wasn't bolted down and some other things pointed to really bad quality.

Other Thoughts: If you are running servers, spend a little more and get a quality product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bang for the Buck

Pros: I have been steady replacing my APC with new CyberPower units. This one sits on my DC, Router, and Switch. I have had no problems with this unit once installed. Will be purchasing a second one in the near future for my file server. The LCD display is a blessing for checking and monitoring without having to log onto the computer. Even the maintenance guy understands it.

Cons: waiting on the maintenance guy to get me a new line!

1 out of 5 eggsStay away, lowest Chineese quality

Pros: None

Cons: Purchased 3 of those for our server room. The first worked for a few weeks and then started going off by itself with no loss of A/C power. The other two had problems with their logic board and didn't recognize A/C power, they also had a fainted buzzing noise. Support sent us a prepaid shipping package but is such a hassle to send these heavy things back or return to newegg. You can see how low quality they are just from the sloppy paintjob and the chineese stickers on it. I will never buy cyberpower again. We will spend 2x the money and buy quality UPS units. Don't trust your machines on it because they loose power by themselves without the A/C going out and no battery kick-in! Your machine will go down cold unexpectely. Stay away!

Other Thoughts: It is not an easy item to return so think twice before buying low quality UPS. I will not trust any machines one this!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding the CyberPower OR2200LCDRM2U. Based on the experience described, the issue appears to be a unique situation, possibly caused by the PFC power supply in your server. The UPS is compatible with some PFC designs, but not all. A PFC power supply should use a Pure Sinewave UPS. CyberPower’s new Active PFC Adaptive Sinewave technology is the first to solve the critical compatibility issues of non-Sinewave UPS products working with computing systems using Active PFC power supplies (ENERGY STAR 5.0). CyberPower offers an industry leading 3-Year Warranty on all of our UPS products, which is backed by our U.S. based Technical Support. We are disappointed that any customer experiences anything less than 100% satisfaction. Please contact us at 877-297-6937 M-F 8-5 CST, or support@cyberpowersystems.com, so that we can act to completely address your issue and ensure your total satisfaction.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value Rackmount UPS

Pros: Rackmounted one of these 10 months ago and it has worked perfectly. Purchased a matching SNMP unit and got it working with the help of CyberPower Tech Support. SNMP unit allows me to monitor the unit over the Internet and also log any power occurrences. The log shows just how well it works. If you need more run time, there is an addon battery pack available. Didn't have enough in the budget for one of those too.

Cons: None, unless you need SNMP. I got the last unit available at the time. They were switching to a different SNMP, but it wasn't available for a few months. Documentation on SNMP that comes with this unit is a bit sketchy, but Cyber Power Tech Support was very helpful.

Other Thoughts: Finally got some money in the budget for another rackmount UPS. Plan on buying another one of these depending on the new SNMP. I will post again, once I get some experience on the new SNMP. For now, if you have a 20 Amp outlet, this is the UPS to get.

5 out of 5 eggs5-20R means *special* plug!

Pros: Folks, this is a reminder that usually any UPS that's rated 1500VA or higher, typically requires a 5-20R 20A receptacle. It's the one with the "funky" horizontal tab on one of the plugs versus the normal vertical tabs. This is due to the fact that "normal" North American outlets are 5-15R and rated for 15A's which is not enough for any UPS over the size of 1500VA.

Cons: So if you're installing this into your home, you're going to need an electrician to properly install a 20A receptacle where you want the UPS. Don't try to get around it. When these UPS's recharge, pulling anything more than 15A from a receptacle will either:

1. Cause your 20A or lower breaker to flip at the breaker switch if there's anything else on the same circuit using power (other PC's, lights, copier, printer, etc.)
2. Cause your 20A or lower fuse to blow.
3. Cause your house to burn down because you're pulling more amperage over your electrical wires than it's designed to due to an electrical fire caused by heat.

Other Thoughts: Anyone who's familiar with "professional" grade UPS's for network datacenters, etc. which uses 120V or 240V 5-20R or even the funky 5-30R plugs (similar to your electric clothes dryer). 5-20R UPS's are relatively new and fit the bill inbetween the powerful UPS's designed around 5-30R's, and the "consumer" UPS's that use "norma" 5-15R's.

2 out of 5 eggsLooks good, but . . .

Pros: I haven't tried it (because of the con listed below), but it's aesthetically nice! If it preforms like it's supposed to, I'm sure I'll be very happy with it once I rewire my breaker box and the outlet I wish to use.

Cons: One detail I guess the manufacturer decided was too minor to mention on the specs page is the fact that this UPS does not have a standard US plug. I was very irritated to discover that the plug is in fact a 20 amp plug for a dedicated breaker (it looks just like a standard 3-prong US plug, except that one of the vertical prongs is horizontal instead, and won't fit in a normal outlet). If I had known this ahead of time I might have chosen a different UPS. I'm not thrilled about having to rewire my breaker box now.

Other Thoughts: I'm not saying CyberPower doesn't mention this, the probably do somewhere, but this detail needs to be right in the customer's face before he/she decides to buy this thing. Perhaps CyberPower thinks this is obvious, but it wasn't obvious to me, this is my first UPS - everyone is a novice at some point!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments on the OR2000LCDRM2U. We do have it stated in 3 different areas on our website, but you are correct that first-time buyers might not be aware they need a different receptacle. To help correct the confusion, we have updated our company’s main overview page, and also submitted new imagery and specs to Newegg to make first-time buyers more aware of the plug requirements. Thank you for your input. CyberPower Systems.
