5 out of 5 eggsAwesome UPS/Support

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: Compact stylish size. Works Very Well.
CyberPower has the best support also. I give support an 11 Rating!

Great communication from the company.

Cons: There was a slight hum while charging, but otherwise a great UPS!

Other Thoughts: There was a problem on the phone line interface, so I contacted Support.

Great Communication from CyberPower!

They are shipping a new unit. I gave them a CC number, and they are including a pre paid label to ship the first unit back to them upon receipt of the new one.

I am extremely impressed with the support from CyberPower. Was able to EMail, and talk to a live person.

It's rare to get this kind of service nowadays!!

4 out of 5 eggsNot quite perfect.

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: It's SMALL. One would think from the pictures it's a lot larger. But it's compact and looks nice next to my tower.

Connection was flawless. The software installed on my Win 7 x64 system also and works.

Cons: I ran a couple of self tests to check it out. They worked fine.
HOWEVER, it is now making a soft humming noise which is annoying.

ALSO, the little icon in the notification area of the tool bar, when moused over, says 'The UPS is on battery power. Which is WRONG........lol

I'm hoping when the battery charges that will stop.

Other Thoughts: I'm only pulling about 100 watts on this system, so this UPS is pretty much overkill. But I have another computer that I hook up once in awhile. Total with that connected is about 227 Watts.

Now, 2 self tests knocked the battery down to 75%. And it's taking a long time to charge up. And humming.

We'll see if that straightens out or not.

1 out of 5 eggsMakes a great paperweight!

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: It's great for holding down all those loose documents flying around your desk area.
It may also work well for warming your hands on a cold day.

Cons: Doesn't actually do what it was designed to do.
Refuses to power on.
Gets quite hot when it's plugged in.

Other Thoughts: I've had the misfortune of owning this device for a month, only to have it suddenly stop working.
For a while, it seemed to be functioning decently, but it was never in a situation where the battery backup needed to be engaged.
Ironically, this morning, when I went to power up my system, I noticed my network storage wasn't getting any power, then I realized that I had it plugged into this ups.

Come to find out, the UPS refuses to power on, so I'm basically left with a giant paperweight.
And apparently these guys won't accept the responsibility of handling returns or replacements of their own faulty devices to boot.
I would recommend staying away from cyberpower altogether, as it's not worth dealing with garbage hardware and nonexistent support.
I have no idea what I'm going to do now, as I'm stuck with this thing, and I'm out the money as well.

5 out of 5 eggsNice for personal using.

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: My CP850PFCLCD works perfect. I've connected to it 2 computers (one for games), printer, charges, laptop. It works 5 min. through battery with almost full load. It's OK. When power cut the UPS switches to battery very well. No any sound from UPS. You can install it next to your bed and sleep ).

Cons: No

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for my gaming pc

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: Compact, quiet, high quality, great power. It works great at providing power for my gaming pc as well as my home theater sound system that includes an amp and a subwoofer. Had the power cut out a week ago for a few seconds and I didn't even notice a flicker in the monitor. I highly recommend this unit.

Cons: It's heavy, but that's just the nature of a UPS.

5 out of 5 eggsNice buy

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: Very nice product. Nice display is a plus, and so far i've never had a problem with it.

Cons: It would be nice if you could view both the output wattage and the estimated battery run time at the same time, but no eggs docked. Also, not a problem for me, but it is a little larger than I expected it would be.

Other Thoughts: Great if you care about your electronics and want to keep them nice and safe. I wouldn't recommend though unless you have something in your computer that a sudden loss of power would damage, such as an SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsGood product, but... FOLLOW-UP

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: Still all the Pros mentioned before. Overall good product with some room for improvement in product design and customer service.

I would have liked to add an egg for customer service, but they (a) didn't acknowledge and fix the issue (minus one egg), and (b) the technical support I spoke to was short with me over the phone (minus another egg).

Cons: Still the same cons, plus technical support that needs to improve their people's skills.

Other Thoughts: I contacted CyberPower technical support to report a %50 drop in DSL speed, and a bad fit for the RJ11 cable. The RJ11/RJ45 port is one port that is supposed to fit both sizes of cable heads (phone jack and Ethernet jack). However, the RJ11 cables (the phone cable) do not fit tightly into the UPS's multiport. They slant, resulting in a bad connection. Comparing the CyberPower to other RJ11/RJ45 multiports, this is clearly due to imperfect design on part of CyberPower.

CyberPower technical support would not acknowledge this fault, but did offer to replace my unit due to decreased transmission speeds. They asked me to send them the unit and when they receive it they will send me another one. I appreciated the gesture, but it was quite a hassle to disconnect everything and be without protection for the duration of the replacement. They would not accept a credit card guarantee and send me a unit ahead of time.
I ended up purchasing different cables, one side RJ11 to plug into the wall, and the other side RJ45 to plug into the UPS. These (very cheap but) better fitting cables solved the issue of transmission speed, eliminating the need to ship in a perfectly working unit and wait for another one to arrive.

CONCLUSION:
1. If you are planning to use the phone/DSL ports with phone-line cables (RJ11), either buy a different UPS unit to start with (perhaps by a different manufacturer), or plan on buying different cables or RJ11/RJ45 adapters separately.
It's too bad that CyberPower would not acknowledge their design fault and provide adapters as part of their product until they fix this issue.
2. If you need to tier technical support do your research and try a different manufacturer.

3 out of 5 eggsGood product, but...

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: 1. Good build quality.
2. Good features.
3. Replaceable batteries.

Cons: 1. Plugs too close to each other. Not built for attaching transformers. I needed to use a power strip attached to one of the battery outlets to accommodate the last few devices I needed attached since two transformers took up 3 out of the 5 available outlets. A better design of the rear real state could have resolved this issue. Minus one star...
2. The RJ45/RJ11 Combo is problematic. This is where you'll attach the cable modem, phone line or network cable. The combo design fits the RJ45 well, but does not hold the RJ11 in place. Furthermore, it reduced the internet speed from 40 Mbit/s to around 16 Mbit/s. I do not know why this is happening yet, but I suspect that the bad fit for the RJ11 cables might be the culprit. CyberPower could have included two RJ45 to RJ11 cables, or adapters, but did not.
Since returning such a heavy purchase is not economical I am stuck with needing to source an buy these adapters after the fact. Minus another star...

Other Thoughts: CyberPower came up with a good product, but by looking at their extensive line of products, I think they didn't go the extra mile in the design phase and in making the product user friendly in order to make this unit as useful as possible.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for home and SMB Networks

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: CyberPower UPS systems work well in just about any application. The batteries are replaceable, which is a requirement for me.

I support home and SMB networks, where a single low-cost CyberPower UPS can power several servers and shut them down appropriately.

Unlike APC, which only provides network shutdown features at higher price points, CyberPower makes their PowerPanel Business Edition software available as a free download, which enables you to set up alerting and unattended shutdown for any Windows or Linux box on your network, so in this way the server can alert the workstations and shut them down, even if the workstations are only connected to "dumb" UPS power units.

Leave the big data centers to APC. If you support home or SMB networks, CyberPower is the only way to go.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Most people follow the "install and forget" model of using UPS, which can get you in trouble. ALWAYS replace batteries following the manufacturer's recommendations, and periodically test your UPS to ensure that it works when you need it. Sometimes a UPS with a dead battery can be worse than having no surge protector.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: CyberPower CP850PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower w/ USB Charging Ports

Pros: I bought this to protect my Mac Mini setup. Lately we've been having power issues due to stormy weather, and my Mini was just too expensive to plug into a "surge protector."

This is a nice UPS, especially for the price. The display is informative and you can keep tabs on how much power you're drawing from the 'battery side' of the unit. I'm quite surprised that my monitor and mini are only drawing an average of 25 watts!

Cons: The only con is the packaging. This particular item was shipped via FedEx, and the "security tape" on the outer box had been cut and re-taped. Since the FedEx guy just left it on my porch, I had no opportunity to inspect it before accepting it. (I was home, just didn't hear him.)

So I opened the outer box and was pleased to find box around the unit was not tampered with. Something to keep an eye out for. If it was something very delicate like a MoBo, I would have called FedEx immediately and sent it back.

Other Thoughts: We haven't had any power issues since I received it yesterday, but when we do, I'll write another review depending on how it performs. Fortunately OS X recognizes the unit immediately when you pled in the USB cord, and you can set the computer up for a safe shutdown when the UPS switches to battery power for a set amount of time.
