CyberPower CP850PFCLCD Line-Interactive UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for individual work areas, home networking, entertainment electronics and equipment requiring Active PFC power source compatibility.

Why You Need It: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes incoming voltage, preventing chronic problems caused by minor but frequent power fluctuations. Computers and other devices using high-efficiency Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) power supplies require pure sine wave AC power (as supplied by utilities) for trouble-free operation. This PFC Sinewave battery backup ensures equipment using APFC power supplies will not unexpectedly shutdown or experience harmful stress when switching from AC power to battery power.

Typical Use

Provides pure sine wave backup power and surge protection for individual work areas, home networking hardware and devices, entertainment electronics and equipment requiring Active PFC power source compatibility. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Highlights

Pure Sine Wave Output — Provides power protection to ENERGY STAR 5.0 devices with Active PFC power supplies and non-APFC power supplies.

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RG6 / RJ11 / RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) — Corrects minor power fluctuations, including under-voltages, without switching to the battery, thereby extending battery life - essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS Bypass Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

USB & Serial Communication Ports — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

Free PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

Highlights

  • Intuitive dashboard design
  • Real-time monitoring of battery backup status
  • Self-testing functionality
  • Adjustable high/low voltage warnings
  • Safe auto shutdown
  • Configurable system notifications
  • Power problem event summary

5 out of 5 eggsBest UPS for the money

Pros: Advanced features and quality not available from other manufactures at this price. Great lifetime equipment warranty.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: For the reviewer that wanted his unit to work with more than one PC, download uninstall the PowerPanel Personal Edition of the software and install the FREE CyberPower PowerPanel Businesses Edition. Install the Agent on the PC connected via USB to the UPS, then install the client onto any other PCs connected to the same UPS. You can configure all the connected PCs to now shutdown together. The Business Edition also has much better logging and monitoring functions.

5 out of 5 eggsHi mom

Pros: This is a very nice unit for the price. I have a variable power supply in my computer and the Pure Sine was a must. I spent a day or two reading up on different brands, and noone could come close to this one in features or the price.

So far i am really happy with this purchase.

Cons: Unit only has one USB port. I was really hoping and should have checked before purchasing this unit, if it had the ability to shutdown more than one computer in the event of a power failure. I am a member of Turbo Nerd Inc, and have 2 computers at my feet that i was hoping to use this unit on.

Not CyberPower's fault i didn't look into that enough, no eggs docked for a feature i "wish" it had..

Other Thoughts: I enjoy reading reviews from others complaining about the "Beeping" it does in the event of power failure.

The manual tells you exactly how to turn that off.. They send that manual for a reason you know.

1 out of 5 eggspretty paperweight

Pros: looks nice

Cons: would not turn on fresh out of the box

Other Thoughts: Unpacked the box, plugged it in and charged overnight. Will not turn on. Opened battery compartment and checked connections. Tested battery, fully charged fine 13.3V. I have the feeling that this was never tested coming off the assembly line and that does not bode well for Cyberpower quality control.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply

Pros: PFC compatible.
Pure sine wave.
LCD display.
Somewhat adjustable voltage sensitivity.

Cons: I wish I could adjust the voltage sensitivity to be tighter. Something along the lines of 110-130.

Other Thoughts: This is the best power supply on the market in this price range.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!!!!

Pros: Works great. Connects to 8 devices. Lasted longer than my ACP one I bought a year ago.

Came fully charged and no need to wait for hours to charge before use.

Cons: None that I'm aware of. although it could have better spacing between some of the plug-ins for these abnormally large power packs and weird ones that plug in sideways.

I don't want to lose any plug-ins though, so you'll need to make it slightly bigger.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS

Pros: Great UPS...

Bought it to keep a new computer with Active PFC running
during power outages.

My new computer uses Active PFC power supply and needs pure
sine power from UPS to keep it running correctly.

Before I got this unit, I had another brand UPS and when the power
went out, the power supply on the new computer produced a fast ticking
noise. It sounded bad.

When I put this UPS on the new computer, the power supply sounds
normal even when the power goes out.

Cons: no auto off outlets after main load is shutdown.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UPS

Coming Soon!

Pros: So far so good.

Software is easier to use than other brands of UPS software.

I finally checked into the pure sine wave UPS after a new Dell XPS8500 sounded terrible during a power outage. During the outage, the Dell had a very fast ticking noise. After replacing the original UPS with this Cyberpower model, the ticking noise has gone away the Dell's power supply sounds normal during a power outage.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I have included a .wmv movie with this write-up with screens taken off of my oscilloscope with another brand UPS. Hopefully the videos will help others understand what happens when a regular UPS switches the battery on after a power failure. The measurements are still 60hz, but the wave pattern is drastically different.

When the scope is connected to this Cyberpower model UPS, the wave form is the same from line power to battery.

A pure sine wave UPS is needed if you have an Active PFC power supply.

If you do not know what to buy, buy a pure sine wave model UPS (like this one) and you will be fine.

I hope this solves the mystery.

5 out of 5 eggsRight choice!

Pros: BIGGEST PRO: Runs my Antec Signature SG-650, which is very sensitive to input waveform; the reason I got it.
Comprehensive front panel display including wattage of attached devices. Looks to provide a decent amount of run time (26-27 minutes for an unlocked 740BE and a HD5770).
Has plenty of outlets, but see con.
Less expensive than its true sinewave competitors. User-replaceable battery.

Cons: None of the outlets are spaced for AC Adapter bricks, although extremely narrow ones like cellphone chargers and wireless phone adapters won't block an adjacent outlet.

Other Thoughts: Only just got this, but wanted to put up a review to clarify that yes, this unit WILL support a PSU that is very sensitive to input waveform. On a non-sinewave UPS, my SG-650 will shut off when switched to battery, so this unit exactly fulfills the need for which it was bought.
