CyberPower EC350G Standby UPS System

Offering advanced energy-saving battery backup protection for desktop computers and workstations, home networking/VoIP and personal electronics.

Why You Need It:
When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off. Surge protected ECO outlets turn off connected devices when not in use, reducing power usage and providing energy savings.

Typical Use

Provides advanced energy-saving backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to power fluctuations and surges as well as uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Selectable ECO Technology — The CyberPower Ecologic EC350G features ECO technology with three surge protected ECO outlets. When ECO mode is on and the battery backup detects that your computer is off (or in Sleep mode), computer peripherals connected to the ECO outlets will be turned off (USB connection required). This provides additional reductions in power usage and greater energy savings.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RJ11). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Additional Features

Energy-Saving Technology — GreenPower UPS High-Efficiency Design saves energy costs by reducing power consumption and heat buildup.

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

Versatile Design — Compact unit stands upright, lies flat or hangs on a wall.

USB Communication Port — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

Free PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

2 out of 5 eggsI think I bought the wrong thing?

Pros: It's got plenty of well-spaced outlets
It's appropriately sturdy
The plug that goes into your wall is slanted at a 45 so as not to cover up another outlet
You'll never miss the warning klaxon...

Cons: Like I said in the title, I think I bought too small a unit - the 255W model (cheapest option, didn't realize what I needed). My rig has a 750W PSU and this thing went into panic mode any time I did ANYTHING remotely taxing. I never bothered with any of the software or the ECO mode because I am already in the habit of turning off my speakers/monitors when I get off the computer. It's a nice touch, and I'm all about shaving dollars off my power bill, but it's not a feature I would write home about.

If you plan on buying this unit, I suggest looking at your equipment first. I'm no electrician, but I've gathered this thing isn't meant to handle a "big-boy" PC, along with all its peripherals. Far as I can tell, anyway.

If you're wondering, to compare to your own rig, like I said I have a 750W power supply and:

AMD FX9370 Black Edition 8-core CPU (with a big ol' Coolermaster V8)
16GB AMD 1600mhz RAM
Nvidia GTX 760 4GB OC by Gigabyte

So compare that to your own rig before buying. I'm sure these things work great, and I look forward to having the right model for monsoon season out here in AZ.

Other Thoughts: Like I said, I'm sure it's a great product, just make sure you get the right one.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - have to pay to ship it back to Cyberpower!

Pros: Small, multiple power ports to allow for multiple items to be plugged in

Cons: Dead On Arrival. Whats worse is that you have to pay to ship it back! Just does not make sense.
I would not resell for cyberpower again.... bad RMA and bad shipping policy!

Other Thoughts: I would not resell for cyberpower again.... bad RMA and bad shipping policy!

4 out of 5 eggsGood battery with Smart Features

Pros: The included management software is great
• Monitors your current power usage in almost real-time (About every 10 seconds)
• Can set the computer to turn off properly when the power goes out based on how much power is left on the UPS
• Shows information about the charge level of the battery
• Your estimated runtime if the power were to go out
• It has a summary page showing every power outage, under voltage and over voltage event, when they happened and for how long
• You can set schedules for when you want the computer to turn on or off
• The notification sound for when the power goes out for the computer’s speakers and the in the UPS can be turned off if so desired
• It beeps about every 30 seconds when the power is out and its loud enough that you notice it but not overly obnoxious
• The exact voltage considered for under and over voltage has a range that can be changed if needed
• It even has a self-test function to make sure the battery is functioning normally
• The program also doesn’t utilize any CPU resources and only takes up 23 MB of ram on my system to run
• As a note the battery will need conditioning as mine dropped from 100-69% in about 2 minutes and then after testing it again on the same charge it dropped from 69-57% in 1 minute on the second test (This was all after the first full charge).

Cons: The software however great the features looks old and cheap, it looks like it was made for Windows XP.

On my machine instead of shutting down automatically after my preset amount of time, it went into hibernation which was bothersome (Despite the program saying it would shut down). I fixed this by disabling the hibernation function in Windows completely but I assume turning off Hybrid Sleep and Hibernation in the power settings menu should also do the trick to get it to shut down instead of hibernate.

I might have missed it in the instructions but don’t plug in the USB before your system is up and running as it caused a BSOD for me since it had no driver yet. It’s an easy fix as unplugging the USB solves the problem and the driver was plug and play once the system was running.

Other Thoughts: If you are getting a UPS that will be used on a computer then I highly recommend buying one that has a connection to your computer with some management software because it makes all the difference and there really isn’t a price premium for it either.

4 out of 5 eggsRespectable unit

Pros: Good unit, well built, nice looking.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: More of an over sight on my part, bought something cheap and it really wasn't powerful enough to support my rig as soon as I would fire up a game the draw of the video card would cause the alarm to sound on the unit itself. Ended up using it as a really fat surge protector.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: The price for the UPS is right on! I used this on my Synology diskstation ds213j to allow for a graceful shutdown in case of power loss. It has 3 backup power plugins and 3 surge plugins.

It is well built !

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it says

Pros: I wanted something to keep things running when the power blips (router, modem, DirecTV box, etc, Sometimes the router and modem lose their settings when the power is yanked, and the DirecTV receiver takes 10-15 minutes to come back on if it loses power for even a second. So far so good on that.

I also wanted something that would gracefully shut down my sever if the power stayed out for more than a few minutes (that gets even angrier when the power is yanked) after downloading the software it was a few clicks and this works wondrous!.

I bought two.

Cons: The alarm is obnoxious (cheap-cheap speakers), but can be turned off using software.

Other Thoughts: Great little unit fore the price, although the ECO setting seems a little useless
