5 out of 5 eggsBeast!

Pros: great power ratings, good price, good software

Cons: no digital display, only 6 plugs

Other Thoughts: This replaced a tripplite 1500 that died on us after 2 years. This thing was cheaper than the tripplite but had better wattage and voltages. This is a very heavy power supply. It was a chore getting it into my rack. I wish it had a digital display on the ups, but it does have a software package that works really well. It comes with a data cable to hook it up to your server and monitor it from the server. It also logs any power interruptions and issues. It seems pretty heavy duty, but we will see how long it lasts

2 out of 5 eggsFailure after Warranty

Pros: It worked while under warranty

Cons: 3 months after warranty ends the battery goes bad. We purchased two of these units together. One is still working but now I'm not sure how long it has left. We have 4 other 1500va's that have been working for the last 3+ years and cost less. Not to mention we have 100's of smaller brand units out in our field that have outlasted this unit.

Other Thoughts: For the price I would have thought the brand would be more reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsHas been a solid performer

Pros: Good value, UPS monitoring software

Cons: Have not experienced any cons.

Other Thoughts: I decided to try this unit out, as we had previously purchased a tower powercom UPS for several months which worked fine. I also questioned why some of the name-brand UPS units were so expensive. So far, after about 2 months of use, it has worked fine and has been through a couple of power outages. I really like the monitoring software that comes with the unit. The unit itself is very basic, with a few status indicators on the front. There are only 6 15-amp outputs on the unit, where a typical APC unit of this U-size would have 8, so keep that in mind. I plan on purchasing another unit soon.

1 out of 5 eggsNot a good start

Pros: Solidly built rack mount

Cons: No LCD display, no monitoring on the unit
Failed in less than a week - during testing, pulled power from outlet. After 10 minutes of normal beeping, it stopped beeping completely. I waited another 10 mins - still no beeping. I plugged it back into the wall but the system failed to switch back to line mode. After another 10 minutes, it went into continuous beeping then shut down.
User manual is a joke - copyright August 2002.
We'll see how the RMA works out

Other Thoughts: No way to check batteries - hope they are newer than the manual ...

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly stable... just bought another

Pros: 1. Solid build
2. Very affordable
3. Easy to install (get UPSMON software from website rather than CD that comes with unit)

Cons: 1. None so far

Other Thoughts: I bought one unit a few months ago, as I was concerned that it wasn't a name brand UPS (e.g. APC, Eaton, etc.) and wasn't sure how it would hold up. Much to my surprise, it is very stable and does a nice job of keeping my SAN up and running.

As a result, I just bought another one and may buy a 3rd. While I'm sure I'll eventually, run into a bad unit, for $300 it is certainly worth giving this UPS a shot (when comparing the alternatives).

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up on 8/15/2009 review

Pros: Follow up on my 8/15/2009 comments
I have 10 of these units in the field that clients have purchased on my recommendation over the years.
One battery went bad in one unit. Other than that, no problems at all. A set of 4 batteries can be easily sourced for approx 80 bucks when needed for routine replacement every few years (although I've not done so yet - they are holding up fine). I stand by the 5 egg rating for function and price

Cons: None really, especially at this price.

Other Thoughts: You will need a USB to serial adapter if you don't have an available serial port. The Sabrent one works well.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed After 2 Weeks

Pros: Seemed like a good value for the power rating and the price.

Cons: Unit shut-down with no warning after 13 days of operation. Manufacturer's tech support was polite but said that an RMA through Newegg was the answer. Newegg granted an RMA immediately but now I'm out over $76 dollars in shipping costs.

Other Thoughts: I had never heard of this brand before and took a chance based on positive reviews. Now I wish I hadn't. I would avoid this unit and go with a proven name brand.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the price, not bad. Manages to keep my systems (see below) online for 20 minutes under a 35% load on the UPS, taken from the UPSMON software.

Cons: Software provided with the unit doesn't function correctly, however the powercom site provides the newest version that does work correctly, both M$ Win and Linux. It can be a bit noisy for a UPS while under load.

Other Thoughts: I am using this unit in conjunction with my main workstation (Custom build: 2x E5440, 4x 4GB ECC FBDIMMs, 6x 1TB WD Blue, 1x GTX580SC, 1x GTX280SC, and a Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000W) and testing vSphere server (ASUS RS100-E6 P12: 2x 1TB WD Blue, X3440, 8GB ECC). Testing was done while both systems where under a normal load right after a cold boot.

3 out of 5 eggsterrible unix support

Pros: Works fine as a "dumb" ups, or with the hokey upsmon software that is included (linux, intel only).

Cons: No Linux driver for standard ups tools like NUT. There is a "powermon" driver but it doesn't work.

Included upsmon software was last updated in 2003, and is shipped in binary form that requires out of date libraries which are no longer shipped with modern Linux systems. Naturally you're S.O.L. if you're running any other unix, or linux on a non-intel platform.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well built with quality pro look. Handles loads well with good frequency control, and still stays very cool with powered fan cooling (important in a rack setup). Running 2 medium duty svr2008 servers, switches, routers, etc. Held it all up for 20 minutes and still had plenty left (didn't want to run it completely down).

Included UPSMon software is excellent. Get update from website - v2.85 for svr2008.

Software allows scripted cmd so it can shut down the second server via shutdown /m as well as running script to stop exchange on the SBS2008 primary DC before shutdown. Important because sbs2008 takes forever to shut down (20 min!) and stopping exchange first is the trick to solving this problem. Else, SBS might still be up when UPS powers down which is ugly on the arrays.

You can set timings to tell the UPS how long to stay up after scripts and shutdown cmds are initiated which is a life saver.

Front rack flanges are heavy enough to support the unit on a 2 post rack.

Cons: Nothing so far. I've just gotten the unit set up properly so don't know about battery life and how the unit will hold up over time. I'll post again if I see problems but I don't expect any.

Other Thoughts: I think this unit is a "sleeper" and represents outstanding value.

I took a risk on this as there were no reviews written. I'm glad I did, and I wanted to share how much I am impressed with the quality and value of this UPS. Nothing else comes even close for the wattage (that I could find). The mfg seems to be heavy into power management and the website is worth looking over. Looks to be a significant company (to me).

Hope some of you find this useful.
