4 out of 5 eggsso far so good, but...

Pros: Seems well made. the outer case is made out of plastic on pretty much all sides. quite. Decent wattage/ works. Easy battery replacement. Remove 1 screw, slide door, remove battery, pull off tabs that connect battery, and then reverse to put back in. Common battery size. This is the same size and type of battery that my minuteman, APC, and other brands of backup use.. they are all the same battery, just different brand names.

Cons: 1 battery. lacking info of actual run time vs drain. only 3 battery side plugs. Other thoughts gives helpful advice and thoughts about this UPS.

Other Thoughts: I have owned many UPS's from many different manufacturers, and unless you get the thin small UPS's with self contained batteries, ones in the size of anywhere near 1000va usually have 2 batteries this size in it. This backup only has one. The backup time can also be misleading. They say for 1 PC and 1 LCD monitor, but never say what kind. A 15" is going to use a lot less then a 23", and there is going to be a huge drain difference between a low end 100watt factory released PC and a high end 400 watt one that may have extra fans, a decent video card that you added in, etc. They do not say what the wattage of the 2 (PC and monitor) are combined that they use for their times, so do not expect that you will get the time frame that they give for backup unless you have a low end factory released PC.

I have seen that people say about the batteries being 9ah. Just for the record, you can get batteries that fit this off from some places for more like $17, but they will be around 7ah, not 9ah. Little less run time, but for half the price, if you dont need the long run time, then it may be worth it. If you do need a long run time though, might be worth considering one with 2 batteries instead of one with 1 battery for backup power. So far, it seems like a decent system, but I am just disappointed in the fact that it only has 1 battery and the run time vs drain info is lacking. I have run this off of battery power to power a laptop (40 watts) for about 10 minutes (kill test, did not fully drain), then let charge while using the laptop, and from that little time used, the top does get warm, so if you plan to use it, I would not put it in a confined space or it may get too hot.

I have seen remarks about the battery not lasting. Opti may be using extremely cheap batteries, or it may be on the user end. No matter how many years a manufacturer states a battery will last, the more times it is fully drained, the shorter the life span of it. Same goes with temperature. The hotter the environment and the battery gets, the shorter the life span too. I try to keep my environment in the low 80's max, but some people will have their houses get into the 90's, 100's, etc, or keep the UPS in a confined space (lack of air flow for cooling it down), and doing that can shorten the life span of the battery. Dont forget, this UPS has no fans, which is good because it makes the battery last longer upon power outages, but is also bad because there is no extra help to cool it down if it needs it. I have not had this much time yet so only time will tell how long it will last, but so far, it seems like a decently designed one.

3 out of 5 eggsReliable until it's not

Pros: Supposedly has many of the features of more expensive, name-brand line-interactive UPS. Easy to change battery. Decent price.

Cons: Batteries lasted from 1-2 years, seemingly less as time went on Only three battery-backed outlets. Customer support is lacking. Software is very dated. Low battery alarm never sounded (over five years). Unreliable after 3-4 years.

Other Thoughts: Failed after five years: Started producing false alarms after power failures (on healthy battery), refusing to turn on, eventually sounding as if it blew fuses (internal, soldered). I don't think the unit ever charges the batteries correctly (optimally, float), hence the short lifespan. Batteries (12V 9Ah) run about 30 USD, so it gets quite expensive. Other manufactures (APC, CyberPower, etc) claim 3-6 year battery life, more than OPTI-UPS' (false) 2-3 year claim.

2 out of 5 eggsworked for a while

Pros: worked well for a few years, had to replace the battery after 3 years but that is normal.

Cons: started to trip the breaker in the house and kept switching to battery power when power was ok.

Other Thoughts: i am gonna fix it myself.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: 6 outlets - 3 battery, 3 non. I haven't had a surge yet, but I did unplug it to see how it worked and it does work. Good times.

Cons: none that I can find

5 out of 5 eggsSolid UPS

Pros: All or most of the features of more expensive, name-brand line-interactive UPS's. More than enough power and backup time for most people (at 1100VA, 550W). Solid build quality. Easy to change battery. Great price. Sexy. Not too large.

Cons: OPTI-UPS seemingly attempts to prevent purchase of anything but their (overpriced) batteries, by (at least) intentionally hiding the battery specs. Only three battery-backed outlets (but three more surge-protected).

Other Thoughts: Uses common 12V 9AH batteries (6x3x4 in, F2 terminals). (I use Tempest TD9-12, which are lasting 2-3 years in a fairly hot environment.) OPTI-Safe Sentinel software works fairly well (via USB). Only 2-5% load level with average PC use (consisting of Phenom II X2 550, 8800 GTS, 21" LCD and Klipsch 2.1 speakers).

5 out of 5 eggs2.5yrs and still running great!

Pros: Have had this UPS for over 2 years, and it is still running reliably and wonderfully!

Highly recommended, very user accessible and easily swappable battery should you need it, I have not yet gladly!
Many options available from the included software, which consumes very little system resources, a large perk.

I have my PC and a 24 inch monitor, my external hdd, and a printer connected to the battery outlets (have a small power strip attached to one of the battery outlets). I like to occasionally pull the plug to make sure it is still working right, and it works fine!

Also has the option of hard starting even when not plugged in, which is invaluable. This way I can charge small things like a phone or my laptop with power left in the UPS unit after the computer has self-shut down after so long in the event of a power outage. Last power outage was for 5 days after a bad storm in Minnesota!

Cons: software could be prettier, but would be at the expense of system resources.

Other Thoughts: Reliable product! recommended.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks OK

Pros: 550 Watts for $100.00 good price , not very good service the saying you get what you pay for is oh so true.
Unit works good now it says a quality battery in it.

Cons: Service kind of sucks I had my unit about 5 month's and the cheapo battery that came in it went flat. I called OPTI-UPS service and they wanted me to ship out the UPS to them when I just needed a battery I guess there hard up and could not send me one so being the Generous guy I am

Other Thoughts: I purchased a replacment battery locally for $30 bucks rather then send my UPS out to cailfornia where these clowns are and it woorks great once again nice UPS just crappo service from OPTI-UPS save the hassle buy an APC unit

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Bought 5 of them for the office, all worked well, and continue to work well over a year later. Each unit has one or two computers connected to it. Our brownout and short power outage problems are a thing of the past.

Cons: Monitoring software could be better.

Other Thoughts: This product performs well for one computer and one or two LCD monitor(s).
