PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Power problems—including blackouts, brownouts, power surges and line noise—threaten your investment! They can damage or destroy PCs and other expensive equipment, wipe out valuable data and files, and degrade component performance. Get protected against these all-too-common power threats with Tripp Lite's INTERNET550U UPS System. It provides reliable battery backup that can keep a basic desktop PC operational for up to 17 minutes during blackouts. Surge suppression and EMI/RFI line noise filtering prevent hardware damage and performance problems such as poor-quality audio and video output. The INTERNET550U's 550VA/300-watt power rating provides ample capacity for a wide range of home and office PC setups, workstations, point-of-sale systems and more. It features four battery-supported AC outlets for computer, monitor and other vital system peripherals, plus four surge suppression-only outlets for accessories not requiring battery support. One set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks protects connected equipment on a tel/DSL line. One USB communication port plus free PowerAlert software (available via Web download) enables unattended system shutdown and file saves in case of a prolonged power failure. The INTERNET550U comes with $100,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment (USA/Canada only) and a 3-year product warranty.

INTERNET550U Feature Focus

Reliable Battery Backup

UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The INTERNET550U features an internal battery that provides 2.5 min. of battery support for a full load (480 watts), 10 min. for a half-load (240 watts) or 45 min. for a single PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available if needed.

Green High-Efficiency Design

99% efficiency saves energy, lowering your electric bill and reducing your carbon footprint. High-efficiency models also consume fewer resources during manufacture and distribution than previous models.

Reliable Battery Backup

UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The INTERNET550U features an internal battery that provides 3.5 min. of battery support for a full load (300 watts), 10 min. for a half-load (150 watts) or 17 min. for a basic desktop PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available when needed.

Surge Suppression

A sudden power surge or spike can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The INTERNET550U features built-in surge suppression to protect all connected components and the data they contain.

EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering

Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The INTERNET550U incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.

Data Line Protection

The INTERNET550U includes one set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks to protect a standard telephone, fax, dialup modem or DSL connection.

USB Port and Free PowerAlert Software

The INTERNET550U features an HID-compliant USB port (USB cable included). Used with Tripp Lite's free PowerAlert software (available from Tripp Lite as a Web download), this USB port enables safe unattended system shutdown and file saves in the event of a prolonged power failure. The USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows®, Linux® and Mac OS® X.

Versatile Installation Options

The INTERNET550U features a space-saving, ultra-compact housing that fits on a desktop, a shelf or almost anywhere. Its 6-ft. power cord features a right-angle plug that allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall. The INTERNET550U's housing is equipped with integrated keyhole mounting slots for secure wall-mount installation.

Environmentally Responsible

The INTERNET550U is manufactured in compliance with strict RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) guidelines to minimize the use of hazardous materials, and its internal battery is 100% recyclable.

Ultimate Peace of Mind

The INTERNET550U comes with $100,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment (USA/Canada only) and a 3-year product warranty.

Cons: too bad it doesn't come in GREEN

Other Thoughts: When I purchased this UPS I was a bit skeptical. However after using it for a week I feel like it has performed WELL beyond my expectation. I will not regret my purchase of this device. It has added some security to my needs and im happy for that. Thanks to TRIPP LITE for offering such a great product at a reasonable price!

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Product after 4 months

Pros: Cheap Product. Good company.

Cons: I had the product for 4 months and after 3 months the battery no longer works. The power has gone out a couple of times and it does nothing except beep to tell you the power has gone out. Very bad product. I would buy a APC next time as I have had great luck with them for many years.

1 out of 5 eggsFailures after 2 years

Pros: They at least don't kill the computer when they go bad.

Cons: Purchased 10 for our small office. Each one will fail after 2 years of use on low-power office workstations (<300W). No warnings given by the unit, computer will either shut down suddenly or UPS turns off at some point in the night after PC is shut down. Of course they're out of warranty by that point.

Other Thoughts: Make great paperweights and doorstops.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry that these units did not represent the quality that Tripp Lite is known for. The INTERNET550U does come standard with a 3-year product warranty, and if your units are covered under warranty we would be pleased to replace them for you. Please call Tripp Lite’s Chicago-based Tech Support at 773-869-1234 for more information.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT buy!

Pros: none

Cons: Plugged it in and tested it. during test, it immediatly failed. After multiple test I eventually got down to have ONLY my computer plugged in, no monitor.... It passed the 10sec test, but battery went from 100% to 3% left. I tried a 20sec test, it failed.... Completely useless if I cant even get enough time to shut down the computer.

5 out of 5 eggs50-60 of these all GOOD!

Pros: I'm in IT and have purchased 50-60 of these units in the last 3 years with no problems. No DOA's and non have failed yet. I find that 550VA is great for single workstations like Core2Duo with duel 19" LCD's.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I like the flat box for ease of use and the plug layouts allow for one Large plug to not take up space from the other plugs. When needed the Batteries can be easily changed by sliding the bottom open to expose the Battery

2 out of 5 eggs3 out of 4 went bad...

Pros: I would say the Tripp Lite customer service stepped up and replaced the original two Internet 550U UPS devices that would not turn on straight out of the box, so that was nice.

Cons: Of the two 550Us that I received in replacement for the ones that were DOA, one of them started going bad within a month, shutting off the computer with no warning. At this point I have the computer connected to the surge protection side but I have lost complete confidence in this model of Tripp Lite UPS.

Other Thoughts: Not sure what is happening with Tripp Lite, but their stuff used to be pretty good for the price point-I presently use a Tripp Lite KVM, Console, and other UPS devices, but am probably done with this companies products after so many failures in a row.

2 out of 5 eggsSeemed to work fine at first

Pros: It operates quietly and reacts quickly to power outages.

Cons: Approximately 14 months after purchase and installation, it started getting intermittent. Turning the computer on for the day meant that the UPS had to be turned back 'on' when the UPS had been on all night. At 16 months, it took turning the unit off, unplugging it, and then turning it back on again. Finally, at 18 months (the warranty period, of course) it doesn't turn on at all. Refuses to charge and no longer works. Tech support doesn't answer the calls after repeated, 30 minute waits when the wait time queue was "five minutes".

Other Thoughts: We no longer use products from this company.
