5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought three units and they have all ran flawlessly for almost 2 years now. I have had several power outages and they have always protected their Linux servers from premature power off without problem.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very good, but less overpriced than some

Pros: Nifty LCD readout of incoming voltage, worked well for about a year, cheaper than certain competing brands of UPS, decent runtime kept me online through a blackout.

Cons: Bad failure mode: just stopped working and took everything down with it, even though wall power was working at the time; exactly what a UPS is supposed to NOT do. Also, just slightly too large for Priority Mail medium flat-rate box.

Other Thoughts: One star for working out of the box, another for being better and cheaper than others' equivalent offering. Failed to get 3rd star for being of average quality.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: From the short time owned it's hard to offer many comments. AVR is nice, PWM output is very nice.

3 stars is due to software limits and non-published information.

Cons: My major complaint and reason for this review is the software and some hardware limits.

Had to call Tripp-lite to get answers. Software, PAL, is generic for many of their models. Not all features noted work with all models. A couple commands are REMOVE POWER FROM OUTLETS & SHUT UPS DOWN. For this model this is not possible once computer has been shut down. No intelligence in the UPS. All commands executed from the computer. Another issue with software is, some documentation shows power load info is available. Again, not so for this model.

An old UPS, Power Comm, $50, (bought from Newegg) can shut itself off and re-awake with computer off.

Seems like numerous features shown in the software are only available on their top end units that cost numerous times this model.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if in their literature they stated what features listed as available in the software were actually available with any specific model. Would save a lot of purchases that would then be returned due to lack of knowledge of what control features are actually available.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst UPS ever

Pros: Low price. USB monitor works in Linux out of the box (debian etch)

Cons: I had 3 of these units and all 3 failed in less than 1 year from purchase date. Unit would hickup and reboot my fileserver w/o any alarm or warning. Unit would say it always had 100% battery and never gave any indication of overload.

The last unit I had finally gave up the magic smoke. I returned it to my place of purchase and got my money back.

Other Thoughts: Do not purchase this UPS if you plan to power a fileserver or some other device you want to have an "uninterrupted power source". It would probably work well for an entertainment center or some other device you would like conditioned power but is non-mission critical.

3 out of 5 eggsmediocre UPS

Pros: It does what it's suppose to. I've had a few power outages and brownouts with the ups automatically and immediately start drawing power from the battery.

Cons: The LCD gave out on me after a few months. It was cool when it worked and I could see the voltage rating coming from the outlet. Now it's just a solid blue screen. Doesn't really stop it from functioning but it's still really annoying.

Other Thoughts: I never used the USB interface so I cant really comment on that but the whole LCD screen giving out just kinda irritates me. Cant even turn off the back light for the LCD so now I have a blue colored nightlight by my computer. Fun fun.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cost, AVR, Backup battery. I use this to provide a little security and piece of mind for my Samsung 46A750 and Panasonic BD35 Blu-ray player.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not Buy

Pros: nice display

Cons: randomly shuts off, the software that works with XP server x64 is written by a complete geek, oh did I say it shuts down without help, manufacturer is of no assistance and is pointing the finger at me - have tried it on 3 other units and it does the same thing.
