PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Power problems—including blackouts, brownouts, power surges and line noise—threaten your investment! They can damage or destroy PCs and other expensive equipment, wipe out valuable data and files, and degrade component performance. Get protected against these all-too-common power threats with Tripp Lite's SMART1000LCD Digital UPS System. It provides reliable battery backup that can keep entry-level PC systems operational for up to 60 minutes during blackouts. Automatic voltage regulation (AVR) corrects low-voltage conditions (brownouts) back to safe 120V power without draining the UPS battery. Surge suppression and EMI/RFI line noise filtering prevent hardware damage and performance problems such as poor-quality audio and video output. A large illuminated LCD screen with dimmer switch shows incoming power conditions and UPS operations in real time. Plus, the SMART1000LCD comes with $250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment and a 3-year warranty.

Ideal for Protection for Home or Office PCs and Home Theaters

Ideal for Protection for Home or Office PCs and Home Theaters

Featuring reliable battery backup, automatic voltage regulation, surge suppression, line noise filtering, USB communication port, plus tel/DSL and coaxial line surge protection, the SMART1000LCD offers a complete power protection solution for PCs, A/V components and all home and office electronics. The SMART1000LCD features a split-outlet design with eight total AC outlets: four to provide battery backup support and surge protection for computers, monitors and other critical components; four to provide surge protection only for peripherals such as printers and scanners that do not need battery backup.

Reliable Battery Backup

UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The SMART1000LCD features a large internal battery that provides 3 min. of battery support for a full load (500 watts), 10 min. for a half-load (250 watts) or 60 min. for a single PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available if needed.

SMART1000LCD Feature Focus
EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering
Secure Every Connection

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

AVR protects your equipment from incremental hardware damage, data loss and performance problems that can be caused by low-voltage conditions, commonly known as brownouts. The SMART1000LCD can correct brownouts as low as 89V back to 120V without drawing on battery backup power that may be needed to support your equipment during a blackout.

Rotatable LCD Status Screen

The SMART1000LCD features a large illuminated LCD screen with dimmer switch that alerts you to potential power problems. This screen shows input voltage, 5-bar battery charge level, overload, AVR, on battery and replace battery status at a glance. It can be rotated for easy viewing in both horizontal and vertical UPS installations.

AC Line, Coaxial and Tel/DSL Surge Suppression

A sudden power surge or spike on an AC, phone or network line can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The SMART1000LCD features a 480-joule surge suppression rating to protect connected components and data from the harmful effects of power surges. One set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks with included cable to protect a standard dialup/DSL phone connection, and one set of coaxial jacks to protect CATV, satellite or broadcast antenna connections.

EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering

Various electrical and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The SMART1000LCD incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.

USB Port and Free PowerAlert Software

The SMART1000LCD features an HID-compliant USB port (USB cable included). Used with Tripp Lite's free PowerAlert software (available from Tripp Lite as a Web download), this USB port enables safe unattended system shutdown and file saves in the event of a prolonged power failure. The USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows® and Mac OS® X.

Versatile Installation Options

The compact SMART1000LCD is easily adaptable to vertical (tower) or horizontal installations with no special hardware required. Its 6-ft. power cord features a space-saving right-angle plug that allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall. For rackmount installation, an optional 2U shelf (model SRSHELF2P) is available.

Environmentally Responsible

The SMART1000LCD's efficient design conserves electricity, saves money and reduces CO2 emissions. This UPS System is manufactured in compliance with strict RoHS guidelines to minimize the use of hazardous materials, and its replaceable internal battery is 100% recyclable.

Ultimate Peace of Mind

The SMART1000LCD comes with $250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment (USA/Canada only) and a 3-year product warranty.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought three units and they have all ran flawlessly for almost 2 years now. I have had several power outages and they have always protected their Linux servers from premature power off without problem.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very good, but less overpriced than some

Pros: Nifty LCD readout of incoming voltage, worked well for about a year, cheaper than certain competing brands of UPS, decent runtime kept me online through a blackout.

Cons: Bad failure mode: just stopped working and took everything down with it, even though wall power was working at the time; exactly what a UPS is supposed to NOT do. Also, just slightly too large for Priority Mail medium flat-rate box.

Other Thoughts: One star for working out of the box, another for being better and cheaper than others' equivalent offering. Failed to get 3rd star for being of average quality.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: From the short time owned it's hard to offer many comments. AVR is nice, PWM output is very nice.

3 stars is due to software limits and non-published information.

Cons: My major complaint and reason for this review is the software and some hardware limits.

Had to call Tripp-lite to get answers. Software, PAL, is generic for many of their models. Not all features noted work with all models. A couple commands are REMOVE POWER FROM OUTLETS & SHUT UPS DOWN. For this model this is not possible once computer has been shut down. No intelligence in the UPS. All commands executed from the computer. Another issue with software is, some documentation shows power load info is available. Again, not so for this model.

An old UPS, Power Comm, $50, (bought from Newegg) can shut itself off and re-awake with computer off.

Seems like numerous features shown in the software are only available on their top end units that cost numerous times this model.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if in their literature they stated what features listed as available in the software were actually available with any specific model. Would save a lot of purchases that would then be returned due to lack of knowledge of what control features are actually available.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst UPS ever

Pros: Low price. USB monitor works in Linux out of the box (debian etch)

Cons: I had 3 of these units and all 3 failed in less than 1 year from purchase date. Unit would hickup and reboot my fileserver w/o any alarm or warning. Unit would say it always had 100% battery and never gave any indication of overload.

The last unit I had finally gave up the magic smoke. I returned it to my place of purchase and got my money back.

Other Thoughts: Do not purchase this UPS if you plan to power a fileserver or some other device you want to have an "uninterrupted power source". It would probably work well for an entertainment center or some other device you would like conditioned power but is non-mission critical.

3 out of 5 eggsmediocre UPS

Pros: It does what it's suppose to. I've had a few power outages and brownouts with the ups automatically and immediately start drawing power from the battery.

Cons: The LCD gave out on me after a few months. It was cool when it worked and I could see the voltage rating coming from the outlet. Now it's just a solid blue screen. Doesn't really stop it from functioning but it's still really annoying.

Other Thoughts: I never used the USB interface so I cant really comment on that but the whole LCD screen giving out just kinda irritates me. Cant even turn off the back light for the LCD so now I have a blue colored nightlight by my computer. Fun fun.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not Buy

Pros: nice display

Cons: randomly shuts off, the software that works with XP server x64 is written by a complete geek, oh did I say it shuts down without help, manufacturer is of no assistance and is pointing the finger at me - have tried it on 3 other units and it does the same thing.
