5 out of 5 eggsFive years on, still working

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Has lasted five years through numerous power outages with no issues.

Cons: After five years, it's time to buy another one.

Other Thoughts: I have absolutely no complaints about this UPS. Has done it's job and done it well. Bought in February of 2010 and it is now December of 2015. In fact, last night 12.22.15 we had a minor power outage and it stayed up just fine - allowing me to turn items off. This morning, we had storms rolling through so I shut down my systems and their respective UPS before heading to work. This one didn't want to shut down & acted odd - it would stay lit up but kept making a clicking noise but a lamp that was connected to it, did shut off. I called the Tripp Lite number after I got to work, spoke to Ken who gave me a few possibilities of why it would not shut off (one possibility being it's time for a new battery - this one is way past the three year warranty and Tripp Lite suggests 5 years is the absolute maximum limit for batteries). On a personal note, it was nice to call a repair number and have someone in the US answer the phone (after navigating a menu). All my UPS are connected to personal systems/home theater systems. No servers, business related or complex systems.

I am sorry so many other folks had a bad experience with this UPS...mine has been stellar. And now that it is acting glitchy it is really not surprising considering how long I've had it. Thanks Tripp Lite for a great experience. And remember, if yours has issues - 3 year warranty, so at least try calling before you chuck it.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 1 year

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Cheaper than most UPS brands that size and rackmount

Cons: Lasted only 1 year

Other Thoughts: I read a lot of reviews about how it didn't last very long, but I took the risk anyway because the price is right. I wish I would have spent the extra money up front, because now I'm out $200 from the original purchase + the $ for a new one. Not to mention the pain of unracking and reracking a new one and the issues it caused with my home media closet when it went down.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsSmells Odd...

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Works, Runs 850w Workstation with 4 Drive Raid 5, GTX 480 etc.

Cons: Seems to be putting off a nasty smell, I live in a smaller apartment, so I am thinking it could be toxic. When I come home from work the entire place stinks like medical equipment or something...

Other Thoughts: Probably gunna get rid of it...

4 out of 5 eggsPlenty of power, short battery life

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Powered a computer with 750W power supply, two 21" monitors and several peripherals in a region of Oklahoma where power-surges and outages are a very common occurance.

Cons: After 2 years and 3 months the thing died on me. However it has a 3-yr warranty. You can't imagine my surprise when I called Tripplite support and after taking down my information for my claim they just said "Ok we will send you a new one, and you don't even have to bother sending the old one back" WOW!

Other Thoughts: Great customer service. I would have dinged it another star if they hadn't been so quick to replace my unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product. Good timing.

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: The device handles all of my components comfortably. One week after I purchased this UPS the power in my home went out. The box sounded an alarm and I was able to walk upstairs and safely shut down my machine without any harm to the devices.

Cons: It is heavy.

Other Thoughts: It is pricey for only eight outlets, but having had one computer fried while plugged into a lesser surge protector I would not settle when shopping for a UPS. Tripp Lite did the trick for me.

2 out of 5 eggsOK for the price

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Relatively small size (for a UPS) for the capacity. Works well when new-ish. And, it's trivial for the purpose, but the blue LED display is cool, I have to admit. It's relatively inexpensive, rackmountable, but I wouldn't trust anything critical to one of these units (see "cons").

Cons: At end of battery life, you get no warnings; just intermittent, random, but increasing failures. Happened with two of these units. Self-test may report OK, so: not very reliable after a year or two.

Other Thoughts: Ignoring the sticker on the box and trying some replament batteries inside; maybe I can get some more use on secondary machine.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing ROCKS

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Solid piece of equipment. This thing has been through some serious storms, lighten strikes, brown-outs, and black outs. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking! I have had it for over 4 years and I love it. Tripp Lite is the bomb.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Buy this it is worth every penny and has saved my very expensive system many times over. 5 STARS. :D

3 out of 5 eggsonly lasted two years

This review is from: Tripp Lite SMART1200LCD Smart Pro Digital 1200 VA 700 Watts 8 Outlets Line Interactive UPS w/ LCD display

Pros: Worked nicely for two years. Cool blue LCD display can be rotated. Ran all I care to power.

Cons: Died after two years. Melted battery and escaped battery liquid. Maybe I didn't leave enough space for ventilation when I put it behind the desk. Somebody on the net seemed to think it was a design flaw though. Replacing batteries resulted in a nasty arc, confirming that the batteries were not the only thing that died.
