Tripp Lite INTERNET550SER UPS System
Power problems—including blackouts, brownouts, power surges and line noise—threaten your investment! They can damage or destroy PCs and other expensive equipment, wipe out valuable data and files, and degrade component performance. Get protected with Tripp Lite's INTERNET550SER UPS System. It provides reliable battery backup that can keep a basic desktop PC operational for up to 17 minutes during blackouts. Surge suppression and EMI/RFI line noise filtering prevent hardware damage and performance problems such as poor-quality audio and video output. The INTERNET550SER's 550VA/300W capacity provides ample capacity for a wide range of home and office PC setups, workstations, point-of-sale systems and more. It features four battery-supported AC outlets for computer, monitor and other vital system peripherals, plus four surge suppression-only outlets for accessories not requiring battery support. One set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks protects connected equipment on a tel/DSL line. One DB9 serial communication port plus free PowerAlert software (available via Web download) enables unattended system shutdown and file saves in case of a prolonged power failure. The INTERNET550SER comes with $100,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment and a 3-year product warranty.
Ideal for Protection of Home or Office PCs and Peripherals
With reliable battery backup, tel/DSL jacks and a DB9 serial communication port, the INTERNET550SER offers a complete power protection solution for a wide range of home and office electronics. The INTERNET550SER features a split-outlet design with eight total AC outlets: four to provide battery backup support and surge protection for computers, monitors and other critical components; four to provide surge protection only for peripherals such as printers and scanners that do not need battery backup.
Green High-Efficiency Design
High-efficiency operation—greater than 95%—saves energy, lowering your electric bill and reducing your carbon footprint. High-efficiency models also consume fewer resources during manufacture and distribution than previous models.
Reliable Battery Backup
UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The INTERNET550SER features an internal battery that provides 17 min. of battery support for a basic desktop PC, 11.5 min. for a half load (150 Watts) and 3 min. for a full load (300 watts). During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available when needed.
A sudden power surge or spike can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The INTERNET550SER features 420 joules of built-in surge suppression to protect all connected components and the data they contain.
EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering
Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The INTERNET550SER incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.
Data Line Protection
The INTERNET550SER includes one set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks to protect a standard telephone, fax, dialup modem or DSL connection.
DB9 Port and Free PowerAlert Software
The INTERNET550SER features a DB9 serial communication port (DB9 cable included). Used with Tripp Lite's free PowerAlert software (available from Tripp Lite as a Web download), this serial port enables safe unattended system shutdown and file saves in the event of a prolonged power failure.
Versatile Installation Options
The INTERNET550SER features a space-saving, ultra-compact housing that fits on a desktop, a shelf or almost anywhere. Its 6-foot power cord features a right-angle plug that allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall. The INTERNET550SER's housing is equipped with integrated keyhole mounting slots for secure wall-mount installation.
The INTERNET550SER is manufactured in compliance with strict RoHS guidelines to minimize the use of hazardous materials, and its internal battery is 100% recyclable.
Ultimate Peace of Mind
The INTERNET550SER comes with $100,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment and a 3-year product warranty.
What's in the Box
Worst Piece of Junk I've ever owned.
Pros: Makes a nice paperweight now.
Cons: I owned this thing for about six months with little trouble. There wasn't ever a power outage that involved my immediate attention so I really can't say whether it even worked right out of the box. After about four months time we had a storm and the power went out.. so did my computer. After unplugging the computer from it and removing it from the wall the backup snapped loudly and internally caught fire, filling my room with the stench of burnt plastic. I contacted Tripp-Light and was told the average output of a standard desktop computer is too much for it to handle. Because of this it's not covered under warranty. How or why it caught fire AFTER being unplugged from the computer and the wall was never addressed and was brushed aside.
Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this at ALL if you're hoping it will keep an average desktop computer running. I'm hard pressed to even recommend it to handle the most basic of electronics. How or why New Egg still sells this piece of junk to us tech geeks I don't know. I shudder to imagine if I'd attempted to keep my scanner and printer on it as well. I made the mistake of buying this thing hoping it would do its job not realizing Tripp-Lite continues to make a battery backup that's TOO far underpowered and overpriced to handle even a toaster. I should have stuck with my gut and gone with an APC backup which are MADE to handle computers at their basic settings.

The New Model
Pros: Great for keeping single PC's or Switch/Router rooms up and safe from surges and power outages.
Cons: This is the new model with many changes from the old one. The first one I got was bad. Kept shutting off after a few seconds. I found out the 12V Battery was only putting out 7V. RMAed and got a new one.
Other Thoughts: The others I got are working so far.
