5 out of 5 eggsGreat Calculator

Pros: Very powerful, does a lot of advanced math with ease.

Durable, it's lasted through many accidental drops to the ground.

Higher resolution display than the TI-83 / 84

Cons: Once you use one of these, you'll never want to use a TI-83 or 84 again.

The price, they used to be cheaper back in the day.

Other Thoughts: It's served me well through AP Calculus BC and now Analytic Geometry (Way overkill for it though).

5 out of 5 eggsTI 89 is the best Calculator in the world!

Pros: - Very Versatile
Can calculate anything from a basic algebraic equation(that comes in really handy if you are working on an engineering course that deals with one, or more, variable) to multiple integrals and derivations.

- Customizable
You can download a lot of applications that can help you through the classes like Notefolio, Softwares for Business Courses as well as Engineering Courses.
You can also download a lot of games and put it into the calculator in case you're bored out of your dam mind in class.

- Very Reliable
I changed my battery three times in a total of 4 years of very heavy use. (About 2-3 hours / study day = no life)

Cons: - It was $98 when I bought mine 3-4 years ago, I don't know why they increased it. Probably the high-influx of engineering students that are in-demand>!?!?!

- High learning curve to learn the available functions

Other Thoughts: With this calculator, your limit is endless in terms of what you can do. Great buy, but it is definitely not for someone who
1) is just gonna be using this calc for recreational purposes (i.e. counting tips, allowance) there's Ti84 or Ti83, heck there's a Ti1 that can do that

2) is not willing to read the manual that comes with it as almost all of the programmable functions have a somewhat complicated inputs. Definitely a high-learning curve

3) Not involved in fields such as Engineering, or Business

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best

Pros: By far the best calculator I have ever used. I've had one since 2005, and it was simple enough to use for basic algebra and advanced enough to use in my advanced math and physics classes while studying for my electrical engineering degree.

It's extremely versatile and is second only to matlab when it comes to handling advanced functions. It would be overkill for someone not doing any type of higher math, but it's great for calculus and beyond. I would recommend this calculator to anyone

Cons: No complaints in my 8 years of ownership.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Calculator

Pros: Does almost everything you could possibly need it for. Very powerful calculating possibilities. Great for Algebra up to advanced physics.

Cons: Sometimes hard to figure out, should not buy if its your first graphing calc as it can be quite confusing and most algebra courses won't have tutorials on this calc (they will on the 83 and 84). This is for advanced users or people who don't mind learning now to use it.

Other Thoughts: Keep track of it! I have had one stolen and the other lost. I wish they had tracking devices in them so I wouldn't have had to buy 3 this year. >.>

5 out of 5 eggsIf you're allowed to use it, buy it.

Pros: It keeps your fractions as fractions and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It'll do everything from your basic trig & algebra through integrals & derivatives and beyond. It's HUGE upgrade from the Ti-83/84 which do not have the CAS (Computer Algebra System).

Cons: It doesn't have a color display.
You can kill the batteries, bring a spare set to any exams or change them in advance just in case.

Other Thoughts: Don't wait to buy this calculator because your Ti-83/84 is good enough for now. The Ti-89 is a powerhouse and it works differently from the earlier models, so the earlier you get it and start learning all the features and nuances the better.

5 out of 5 eggsGot Features?

Pros: This calculator has just about every feature you will ever need. For those that you don't have, TI has downloads available on their site. The screen is crisp and large enough for easy reading as well as several navigable menus using the on-screen display.

Cons: Unfortunately many math professors have an active ban on this model due to the amount of calculations it will do for you. The TI-84 however is still accepted by all of them at my university. The only other drawback is that due to the sheer number of features, it does require several more keystrokes to do simpler graphing functions.

Other Thoughts: Definitely hanging onto this calculator as my major is Electrical Engineering and I will be able to take full advantage of the TI-89's software and apps.

5 out of 5 eggsTi 89 Titanium Rocks

Pros: The layout is good and the buttons are large, very easy to use and the way that you can select past calculations from the History window is great. The menu options are all very well organized into sensible categories which makes it easy to find options.

Cons: The screen resolution is not that great.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if the USB connection could somehow display the screen onto my laptop screen.... maybe in the next model?
