5 out of 5 eggsgreat highschool/college professional calculator

Pros: 1) Simple and quite fast equation operating system (not with HP RPN, but not bad for the money since they are now on sale for $63.99 compared with $59.99 for the new HP 35s for example which is a great machine, but which is totally outclassed by this much more versatile unit which is now about one year in production having evolved through 3-4 flavors from the HP 38 of about a decade ago).

2) Very well organized analysis activities using Aplets with about a dozen available with the unit and many many more on the web (or you can write your own). These include analysis of functions, parametric equations, the famous HP solver system, statistics (with curve fits available for about a dozen types, such as cubic, exponential, power law, logistic or even a user defined type, etc.!). It has about 234 kb of available RAM and about 1 Mb of ROM for the operating system.

3) It is also well organized and will supply three types of analysis for every problem, namely a numerical table of values,

Cons: 1) The batteries only last 50-60 hours according to other reports. I can't confirm this fact as of yet, but it uses 4 AAA batteries as well as a Lithium backup battery to be used as a backup while changing the main batteries.

2) Most high schools REQUIRE TI units, but at least that isn't the case for most university environments.

3) When the HP 40gs finally appears for the first time in the USA (very soon which is yet another very long story), it will be outclassed by the full computer algebra system (CAS) on the HP 40 gs just like the great one available on the HP 49g and HP 50g models. When that happens I will try and sell this one and get its sister, the hp 40gs (for only about $20 USD more)!

Other Thoughts: One great computing device!
